Somalia was considered the pearl of Africa, and was home to a booming economy and a golden age of culture and arts. Unfortunately, due to many factors, such as crumbling diplomatic ties with both the communist and democratic worlds, tribal tensions, and Siad Barre’s (the dictator) unwillingness to make the country democratic and relinquish his diminishing power, the country collapsed. Today, Somalia is going through a period of reconstruction! Sure, it’s no where near it pre-war glory, but with the economy picking up again I’m sure in a couple of decades Somalia will be stable and the pearl it once was. Islam doesn’t have much to do with somalia’s rise or collapse, but it has a lot to do with our spirit. Somalis are extremely hopeful people, and I’ve never met a Somali that was not optimistic for the future because we know Allah has got our back and everything is apart of Allah’s divine plan. We’ve been a Muslim people since the beginnings of Islam over a thousand years ago due to active trade with various Arab states. It’s apart of our identity and although it does not make us rich materially, it makes us rich spiritually and fulfills us.

You can’t take the representation of religious teachings by uneducated racists to be the true principles of that religion, such as the case is with Christianity and slavery in America. For example, Islam allows slavery with extremely strict guidelines and rules regarding the treatment of said slaves. And in Islam a much heavier emphasis and encouragement is given to the freeing of slaves. Also why don’t we address the slavery that is taking place in the US prison system, where so much of our manufacturing takes place with the use of slave labour??

The Abrahamic religions are widely practices in the black communities but is no longer needed. It did once offer a connection before, during and after slavery. However, in the 21st century, science has done more to root out stereotypes, bigotry and hatred. Science is king. We now know there is only one race and that is the human species. Race categories is simply a social construct (man made). Evolution has taken us deep into our past to know where we evolved. We know how the universe was formed and that a person who is gay is just as natural as a person who is straight. We know now that we are made of the same composition of that which is in stars. We have moved beyond myths and fallacies. It is a hard pill to swallow but one that would both serve to place mankind in the appropriate mindset for the 21st century. Man has always help on to outdated and ill conceived notions and thoughts based on their passions and lower self. And that is damaging the planet and basic interaction. Spirituality can used to build the person instead of dogma. Religions carry with it outdated prejudice. Education is not sought after as it should. It is rooted in the black community to have a faith in god first and education later. In fact, the opposite should occur to build the community as a whole. The thirst for academic knowledge is not sought after. Science can do more to help the black community than religion ever could. The holy books are an assortment of stories that have never been rooted in scientific fact or historical truth. Historians have been saying it for some time. Many of the stories are duplicates of stories from the likes of Gilgamesh, etc. The religious find it laughable to think of Greek mythology and the like as a religion though many of its own tenets are steeped in unbelievable smoke screens.

Just reading the title and comments I can just say "religion has slowed to the black American group." This is my opinion and observation of seeing a number of churches in a non-positive environment with no growth. The video was great with research and interviews however religion has been a great tool to slow down progressive growth. Plus can we talk about Jesus being a pale male with lovely hair and blue eyes (when blue eyes wasn't around).

Your first point is 100% correct. My frustration with this acknowledgment is why do black churches have a white Jesus, when we know he was a man of color? I do understand why we had him in the past to be white, but currently, I see a lot of black homes and churches with a white Jesus with flowing hair and blue eyes. To your other questions, I'm going to state it as my opinion. I believe that the Christian faith has stopped Black people from being competitive in business and commanding respect from others. We believe I will suffer now (try not to become financially secure) and I'll be granted a path to heaven and whatever they do to me is okay and I will forgive (Shooting at the church from D. Roof). I believe religion should be a tool that can be used and/or put away. If Black people knew how to put religion away when it is not needed (like most White people), we would know that money is something that is good, and when people do something wrong to you and your group, your job is to make sure it doesn't happen again (War on Drugs, and more). To not make this to long I'll stop with these points.

There are so so many factors that stopped Black people from being competitive in business, but religion probably plays a small marginal factor of less than, say 3%. This modern western civilization is a by product of Christianity. Do you think it would've happened if Jesus never challenged the power of Caesar, or if Moses es never challenged the power of Pharaohs, whom ruled for 5000 years? Also African/Ethiopian Moses the Black was one of the first Christian saints. African Ethiopians became Christians way way before White Europeans.
