It’s called chipboard or MDF and to make the curf at the shoulder ie to enable it to bend is quite simply saw cuts across the board. It’s been used for about 100 years plus, so it isn’t a new way for bending solid wood or the later cheaper materials

Chipboard or Particle Board are wood scraps that are glued together to make a single sheet. In the building trades they are often called: "Fall Aparticle Boards". True solid wood bending requires a number of curf cuts on the side of the wood that is not exposed. Those curf cuts allow for the bending of the wood when it is subjected to steam. The wood then needs to be quickly placed into a form that will allow the wood to retain the shape. Labor intensive & far more expensive.

What type of material is he using on the sides? How the hell...does it just Bend like that, at the Shoulders? That sure makes things sooooo much Quicker and Easier to do....by having material that flex's like that....at the Shoulders! So.....what is the secret Material being used? Cheers

You cut 13 kerfs close to each other, ( kerfs are saw cuts just over half the dept of the material been used) where you want the material to curve. This company like so many these days use MDF AND CHIPBOURD. I've been a Coffin maker over 45 years but make coffin to last made with joints not nails and I only use solid oak or mahogany for burial and solid pine for cremation. ACoffin is nothing more than a strong box. Handles are just for show and must be removed for cremation.

Karl Gibson ...thanks for letting us know, mdf and chip board is insulting considering the high prices charged for a burial or cremation. Solid timber or pine with good joints is a must in my opinion, the last thing you would want is a corps falling through a cheap ass mdf or chip board box that’s for sure.
Funeral homes are getting so expensive you are better off to make your own coffin. I'm going to make mine and have a special made steel burial vault to protect the casket and me to. Lol.. it's more important to have a good vault than casket because it protects the casket
