As a Filipino living in another country there is always a possibility of being racially discriminated. I’ve been discriminated many times but I just ignore it because that is the fact of life, if you live in another country there is always a possibility of experiencing racial discrimination. Just like what they asked you sir Japheth, if you are from South Africa, he based his question maybe because of your skin color. As I have said, I’ve been discriminated many times but one situation I won’t forget was that, when somebody told me that, “you Asians go home to your country, you came here illegally.” I said, my father fought for this country and we have given the privelege to become a citizen of this country. I think racism is happening in every country even in the Philippines.

Being of Asian origin in the Czech Republic is not that unusual, as there is a large Vietnamese diaspora here. There are no problems with them and they are generally perceived positively. It could be more likely that they will be mistaken for Vietnamese.

I am a Filipino and my wife is from Latina. We have a son he considered himself both. As far as discrimination I served US armed forces and so my son every time we feel discrimination I asked the person what branch did he serve in the US military instantly they shut them down lol ...we r immigrants but served their country and that's the Patriotic we can be unlike some white people here. Filipinos are well respected here in the US cause 60% of Filipinos served the armed forces and tons of Nurses in their hospital yet mostly we r all humble.

Hi Sophia 3 questions: How has being part Filipino and part Czech shaped your understanding and appreciation of both cultures? Are there specific traditions from each side that hold special meaning for you? Have you ever faced challenges or unique experiences in navigating your dual heritage? How do you balance or blend both aspects of your identity in your daily life? Filipino and Czech cuisines are quite distinct. Do you have a favorite dish from each culture, and have you ever tried cooking them?

I am a third-generation British individual who was born and raised in Surrey, BC, and I currently reside in the US with my wonderful Filipina wife. We met by chance at a Canadian university while I was pursuing my graduate studies in engineering, and she was working on her PhD in food science. Our daughter has blossomed into a successful certified architect in NYC. From my perspective, it’s important to recognize that many Filipinos face discrimination at times, and we must address this issue to foster understanding and inclusivity. The problem though, is sometimes when they're in public places, they talk so loud that perhaps is annoying to others. Both Canada and the US are free and democratic countries but common sense dictates that you have to learn how to respect others privacy in public places.

Vietnamese and Southeast Asian are seen as positive here, thanks to the established communities here in CZ. Vietnamese came here back 50-60s being part of the labor exchange back then in Soviet era. They settled well since then and have prospered here. Owning nice real estate and big businesses in virtually either big or small cities across the nation. They see Viet/Asians are hard working and business savy. As a Viet- Canadian expat here, I dont feel like an alien here at all, Im walking around my village , I feel like just another guy down the street. Get a lot of thumbs up and they even try to speak to me in Vietnamese n tease me lil bit. Not only Vietnamese but them Slavic/EU countries luvs the K-Pop thing here, its huge here. Try to go one of those K-pop here in CZ or Poland , see how crazy ,and ramped the party is. But it doesnt mean theres no racism here tho for other groups. I know they dont like certain Romani ppl and lately Russians in some neighborhood.

And for Hannah: How are you doing with your job? Have you adjusted already? Are you happy living now in Czech Rep than in England? Lastly, Is Bratislava in Czech Rep.? I think as a Norwegian this about the color of your skin are more a American way of thinking and behavior. We don't think so much about what color of your skin. More about where you come from, like country I mean. Pure curious only. If I see a colored person who speak English, I think about him as a English. Not like American say, black American or Asian American. For me they just are American.

This is my take ok cause my brother is mostly white American and my mother rarely introduced him to the Filipino culture so he ended up not identifying with the Filipino culture even as an adult. MY cousin however a Harvard grad both his parents taught her the Filpino language and exposed her so later in life she became more open minded and traveled the world and appreciated other cultures and countries. PLease start her young. I also could tell even without her saying it that she is more exposed to the Czech. She isn't my kid so it is not my business but she might need both exposures when she is grown.

Only your fellow Asian, discrimanate you, i experience at work, when my husband and i, working the same place, in the hospital here in Iceland, actually my fellow college different nationality, latin, Middle east, Polish, Thai, indonesia, Canadian, even from Norway... but Thai people really so racist againts Filipino, I'm only one Filipina in our department, so i don't have friends, so everytime alot's of work for me, if we're the same shift time. And even i married to Icelandair, they question me why I'm here in Iceland? and working with them. They're entitled and superior, because they're working long time and me newbies, i can't work with them so i quit the job, and work in other company.
