@@Brianbeesandbikes That article shines a light on the fascism of the left (thanks). They believe it's acceptable to silence speech "THEY" deem intolerant while actively claiming we should accept their gay pride parades and intersectional anti-white nonsense. I do agree we shouldn't tolerate certain actions but if anyone believes we shouldn't tolerate speech they need to get the F**K out of the USA. That's the most anti-American and anti-Constitutional belief ever. Speech wouldn't need protections of the constitution if everyone agreed with or tolerated it. PS. Setting fires and assaulting people is not "free speech" it's a crime. You have every right under the 1A to protest and petition your grievances to your government you do not have the right to infringe on the rights of others or violate any laws in the process of your protest. Once a lefty or anyone damages property or harms a person or blocks traffic or yells in someone's ear or steals their microphone or steals their signs or interrupts a person speech disturbing the peace they have forfeited their right to protest.

@@Uhtredrag1080 Is a paradox ... not oxymoron. For example in usa's culture, when dominant elements (white str8 christian men) design/participate in maintaining norms that limit the speech or lives of those not in that "club". That kind of intolerance should not be tolerated. Whats' being discussed here is blowback from relatively rare examples of leftist overreach, like laws that were put in place to correct decades (and 1000s really) of years of women getting nothing in a divorce that now get more from their exs that seems fair in some cases. There's also a growing resentment by women, trans, nonwhhites nonchristians etc who still are subjected to threats of many kinds white str8 men do not experience, and there's a growing resentment / militance, esp under the duress of neoliberalism / exposure of injustice due to modern socmed 24/7 visibility.

I think it's normal to take offense at one thing or another. The problem arises when subjective criteria become the standard by which all actions are judged. Regardless of the intent of your remark or actions, it becomes offensive if the aggrieved party perceives it that way. We used to say, "People should be in touch with their feelings." I love that people are offended, that just means their arguments are not based in fact but by assumption. I used to work with an Irish lad, a great person, salt of the earth. We were all firefighters, he had been known as Paddy all his career. Even his name badge was Paddy. One day we had an ''equal'' opportunities lecture from this young woman who went round the room and asked us all our names, and Paddy said his name was Paddy. She was appalled, and said ''That cannot be your name, it's an Irish stereotype, what are you really called?'' He said, ''I was christened Michael, but my brother, my two sisters, and my mother all call me Paddy. I work with these guys 24 hours a day, I trust them like they are my family, they call me Paddy too, and the fact that you demand they call me something else, is rude and oppressive!'' She said ''But don't you see that is offensive'' he replied, ''If you're offended by my family, then it's you that has the problem not me''

@Tony Adams I agree that debate should be allowed but i have to disagree that it should be done in a safe environment. Well it depends on what you consider a safe environment but these university students seem to think a safe environment is a place with no conflicting ideas hence why they try to shut down anyone who disagrees with them. Also i don't think universities should be about alignment, everyone should be free to come to their own conclusions after hearing a range of different opinions.

Hello. Thank you! I needed this. The title literally summarizes my brain’s reaction to ... everything lgbtqia+ related. I have lost all my friends in the community, because my opinions align pretty much with what Douglas Murray and the very few remaining sane members of the “community” have to say about it. I have sent this to every teacher with a student audience that understands the language sufficiently, that I know. This is valuable in many ways! ❤️🎈🦜 Also I have great appreciation for the dig at the radical activists by calling yourself the CIS. 💪🏻❤️😂

Colleges have been cranking out graduates with unemployable degrees and then leaving them with a mountain of student loan debt. Prospective enrollees of expensive colleges should realize that important classes twill be taught by grad students while tenured professors pursue grants which are far more lucrative to the universities.

@3:20 50% of students feel it’s acceptable to interrupt/disrupt a speaker… Well, I think we can thank parentage for much that. I would guess that these particular children never had proper expectations or discipline growing up. I see it OFTEN when I’m out and about. Children running rampant and being rude/obnoxious, and then you have the parent who requires the children to follow instructions such as sit down, eat neatly, speak kindly, stay together, etc. I don’t know why they changed parenting styles so as to not expect the tiniest bit of respect from children, but when you go that route, you have adult-children who have no respect for others. And so it goes... It’s so sad.

If my sons, who all went to university during the nineties, were just now of college age I would strongly encourage them to learn a trade rather than wasting their time going to the morally bankrupt colleges and universities.

I’m currently considering the same thing. All three of my kids are honour students and can take almost any field of study but it all seems like a waste of time and money now. One daughter is extremely gifted in math and science and wants to go into environmental sciences. But I see the field as a gateway drug to Climate Hysteria. It’s like offering your first born to a Cult.

@Pickel Sandwich let's be fair. There has been a lot of insanity committed in the name of religion too. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Christianity is no more exempt from this than atheism is.
@archiesimpson51724 жыл бұрын
@Pickel Sandwich I am well aware of that. However I would no longer want to live under a Christian theocracy than I would Stalinist Russia or Sharia law. A university is not government, and scholarly pursuits did not begin with Christianity. The Egyptians had the library of Alexandria, which was destroyed by first century Christians. The Greeks had their great philosophers. The Persians had their great mathematicians. Perhaps universities were not created until the fifteenth century in Italy but great thought did not begin nor end there.
@archiesimpson51724 жыл бұрын
@Pickel Sandwich no but my wife minored in history and read some Engels. There is tyranny in Stalinist government to be sure but Christian theocracy hasn't kept its hands clean either. Look what happened in 15th century Spain under Ferninand and Isabella. They killed and displaced thousands of Jews and Muslims who refused to convert. These are people who had lived on the peninsula for generations. Theistic or not, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Lovely talk this. Wish I could have joined the discussion. Although an historian by training, I always had a fascination for law. Mischief is afoot that wakes up some slumbering barrister within me, with deep roots. Allow me to discuss here, three astonishing concepts: microagression, implicit (or unconscious) bias, and intent versus impact. The three horsemen of a particular mental apocalypse. Microaggression, is by definition, micro, which does not mean just small, but means in fact, so small as to be microscopic. Therefor you need a microscope (metaphorically) to be able to ascertain its existence. Each and every microagression, apparently, proclaims the distinct absence of a macroagression - which is a thing we all knew and understood, until yesterday. I like to use this analogy to illustrate: When fishers of the world descend upon an oceanic region and fish out the large predators, the bluefins and yellowfins of the tuna race, as well as the ocean perch, the codfish, the marlins, and all those magnificent and glorious predators, eventually nothing is left but the feeder fish. Who are small. And then even when those sardines, and other smelt-like pipsqueaks are siphoned up, then come the bottom-trawlers. Whose sorry lot it is to scrape the bottom of the ocean floor, sweeping up the luckless organisms who dwell there. If a sea dweller were an aggression, these would be microaggressions. And because they are indeed microscopic and invisible to the naked eye, no-one knows quite what they look or sound like. Except those who employ specific microscopes to seek them out and hunt them down. It is tireless and thankless hard work, but someone has to do it, apparently. This is the equivalent of the existence of a small but freedom-loving boy in the presence of a maiden aunt who will examine every detail and every aspect of this boy, nagging, nit-picking, analyzing, weighing, judging for the purpose of deliverance of endless verdict, and always guilty. That's microaggression. A cute trick. A cuter trick is intent versus impact. Which means that the impacted can declare themselves as such, regardless of which delivery system puts them in that state. Polite society has historically been populated by endless generations of good people who spent their lives conducting themselves in such a manner as to not negatively impact others. We all used to know how this works. Yet apparently, now anyone can be impacted by anything. And I do mean anything. Declaring oneself as having not the slightest thought, inclination or desire to produce such a result, is now no defense. Considering that an impact can be delivered by a look, a twitched eyebrow, or simply a physical presence, let alone words or actions, this has become now a Chinese puzzle of the first order, impossible to solve. Which IS -the intent, after all. Which brings me to the third, and final horseman. The most awful of them all, by far. Implicit (or unconscious) bias. Any sane person would have their sanity seriously suspected were they incapable of declaring that of course they have implicit bias. Every single human being does, crazy or not. That's just how we work. This particular species of bias is apparently, only for purposes of protecting the politically correct from scrutiny or reaction, although its racial roots always seem to rise to the top. Making the claim that our bias is due to conditioning, social and otherwise, mis-education, and general all round bad bloodlines, this thought-weapon is especially murderous. It does not seem to matter, apparently, that no scientifically efficient method of measuring implicit bias actually works. Of course it does not matter. The application of any "training", conducted for the purpose of removing our biases, is hopelessly inept and astonishingly inefficient, as well it should be. Just one small example can prove it. A bias that appears to exist in the moment, can be gone in the next. Anything, a mood, a distraction, an appetite or lack thereof, an attraction, repulsion, or just simply predilection toward anything at any time in any way whatsoever, can alter the state. It is not a static thing in humans, it is a constantly shifting and evolving thing, and as such, woven deeply within the fabric of the human condition. And the fools wish to mess with that? The only real way they could ever succeed is to make thought crime an actual and existential threat. After which all bets are off. Otherwise - it is just simply what no-one appears willing to admit to. Yet again another form of what can be identified as an actual aggression, a messing and a meddling with the deepest and most sacrosanct privacy of any individual. These three things alone prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that their adherents are indeed, up to no good and do in fact, harbor ill will.

@1lightheaded3 жыл бұрын
Is there really such a thing as an implied bias . There are lists of cognitive biases . I just looked up the meaning of implicit from implied that is something suggested but not stated and bias is an unequal measure but when you put the two together implicit bias is a bias you are not conscious of . listen you are not using the English language correctly a sea creature can be aggressive but not an aggression so your whole analogy becomes meaningless and all fish died for nothing As for horsemen there are four and have always been four conquest famine pestilence and death i am guessing your third horseman implicit bias is defined as unconscious bias and if so how could anyone not everyone be aware of it if it is unconscious. You got carried away by your own veriosity your attitude to bias is that it is in some way appropriate to have them . This essay has lots of lovely words but they don;t hook up in a way that makes clear sense C-
