Sometimes life hurts and people we love do things that upset us. It is important to communicate when we are hurt and to express our pain honestly in a relationship. That is a legitimate part of the healing process. Nevertheless, hurt is no excuse for misusing our tongue. Hear what the word encourages.

James 1:19-20, 26 TPT
“My dearest brothers and sisters, take this to heart: Be quick to listen, but slow to speak. And be slow to become angry, for human anger is never a legitimate tool to promote God’s righteous purpose. If someone believes they have a relationship with God but fails to guard his words then his heart is drifting away and his religion is shallow and empty.”

This scripture says it all. Maturing in the use of our tongue, even when we are hurt, is a sign that we are growing spiritually. It is possible to express our hurt and disappointment without attacking the other person and inflicting more hurt. When you are hurt, don’t sink deep into uncontrolled anger; take the high road and choose your words carefully.
