@cezza57 John the Baptist said it better than I can . . , "I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the holy spirit" and that is the basis of the song. Jesus died so that a physical baptism of water was not required, merely the baptism of spirit through faith.

Thanks Lolly. I have been trying for weeks to discover which Songster Brigade this is. It's good to have an answer from someone who was there. You will see from earlier notes, I thought Staines. I was very surprised some one put this on site without knowing its true origins. Geoff.

cezza: I believe the reasoning was to not confuse the inward reality with the outward form. The Quakers also follow this reasoning. I see no problem performing this rite if it is requested. As far as the Bible goes, I am in agreement with Bart Ehrman in his book "Misquoting Jesus"

cezza: Mind the king's English now: that's 'allowed baptizing' , not 'aloud baptizing'. I am third gen. Sally, but due to a change in philosophy, I am no longer qualified to be a Salvationist. But I still have a lot of Bandsman left in me. I still like the reasoning behind no baptizing. Wasn't it Eric Ball who got booted from the Army because he believed in spiritualism? I'm right behind him on that.

Hi JoJo Thanks, but this is definitely NOT ISS. The trimmings suggest a Corps Section. I would possibly guess Staines or Boscombe. Let's wait and see. Regards

@k0smon the cult status within the salvation army is only realised through the rank of officers - where Divisional leaders have the power over their officers lives which is in fact equal to cult status
@kaledra12 жыл бұрын
1. I know lots of people who have had children during training. It's not a problem as long as you can keep up with your school work. 2. Hair should look professional - like any job. 3. Since the Army pays an allowance per kid, it makes sense that they need permission to adopt. 4. There are no rules as to the age of the person you marry. 5. Officers agree to the position statements. That's why they freely choose to become officers. 6. They also agree to go where they're sent. 7. your info=wrong

Which Songster Brigade is This ??
@Steampunksaly12 жыл бұрын
@k0smon 'what the army position is on numerous issues' which officers are expected to accept without question. in fact if you look closely and the controlling tactics of any cult it is easily matched to that of army officers. The old days of retired officers being tossed out to fend for themselves are gone thank God - but it has strong Cult status within its officer ranks

Good point - but seriously flawed on many level's. Any organisation asking for public donations need to be held accountable. A thin veil of 'we are doing good' when the 'good that is being done' is questionable - it needs to be challenged. There are many, who in good faith 'contribute themselves' to this organisation,believing they are 'easing the burden of those less fortunate' when in fact the money is directed and used inappropriately (UK wise).
@Steampunksaly12 жыл бұрын
no other church expect's the local community to pay their minister's and church's running cost's - as the Sally Army does, and it gets away with it because people believe all they donate goes straight to the needy.If you are a salvationist,I would be interested if you backed up your statement with a realistic account of where public donations are spent, and exactly what percentage of your corps are involved in any social work at all -

'quite a few' - yes, I would agree with you, quite a few, not a lot involvement in social services. I say this because people assume when they see a sally army uniform, they see someone involved in voluntary care. Not so, more likely a bandsman or songster who's only commitment is music. The commanding officer, possibly involved to a certain extent though most of their weekly activities is the collection of donations to cover their salary and the running cost's of their Corps/Church.

Dear mets., If your comment is in response to cezza (probably born in 1957) then, his/her comment on spirituality is not addressed. . In the olden day government workers did the job of the fire brigade and the ambulance service. That those workers have been replaced with a 'religious order' is just a way for your country's government, to remove itself from doing that job. . Fewer 'voters' complain about emergency help if it is not done by the government of any country. . Cheers. from, del-boy

Do people realise that the collection taken at Christmas by the Salvation Army goes to the band? Also - never buy a War cry - 10% goes to their divisional headquarters for admin, 30% to pay for the printing of the paper and 60% to pay for the running costs (heating and lighting and ministers salary) of their local Corps (church building). Salvationist's themselves finacially give very very little and most members do no social work as folk think, but spend their time in music.

I cannot speak about Australia - I can only report on the UK - I strongly feel it is time for your organisation - which I believe is commanded internationally by one leader - to collectively unite and put right the blatant wrongdoing's of an organisation that still holds great respect - but in practise is falling far short/
@k0smon12 жыл бұрын
@mzk3812 ::: You can tell a cults from their looks? Besides, you probably don't know what makes any organization a cult. The S.A. is not a cult. I was a member for many years and can tell you that honestly.

@bassblower28 I am not bitter,I am a person of faith who is entitled to expose a wrong. I am in a very strong position to question the funding and spending of any charitable organisation, the SA is not immune from criticism, especially when dealing with public money.I would rather, than praying for me, you spend some time and energy in researching the fundraising activities of your organisation and do something to actively seek change in its use of public money. I have the right to be concerned.

@k0smon You are so wrong.....the cult status does happen with the officer rank of the army - look at the huge rank of the awful term 'X officers' who have been shunned and disfellowshipped! Who are totally controlled in marriage,how many children they can have and adopt,the age gap they are allowed to marry between, if you look closely at how officers are treated and expected to live it is nothing but 'cult status...You are trained 'how to think''what to wear'''what not to drink'
@Steampunksaly12 жыл бұрын
1)pregnancy can only happen after a period of time - permission letter sent to married couples during training to tell them when. 2)It is against human rights for any employer to refuse adoption and challenge number of children or not give permission for marriage for whatever reason - especially years older younger.There are rules to age gap - you do not know what u r talking about.Officers are sent whether they agree or not.The S.A. is of cult status when it is dealing with officers.

@stuinNorway are you talking about the salvation army in the UK? - Be careful about crying out 'rubbish' if in fact it is you who do not know what you are talking about.....take a moment and do some research . I will await your apology. You know many UK salvationists involved in social work? How many? ......Be honest.....and what social work? I understand the nature of tithing - salvationists are very poor givers (UK) and rely heavily on the general public to subsidise their Corps (Churchs)
@Steampunksaly12 жыл бұрын
you have not replied? I hope it is because you are checking your 'knowledge' especially on your 'lot's of people had children during training' you have lied here you do not know one. If the cadet became pregnant before permission is given both cadet's would be dismissed, which of coarse leaves them homeless because they cannot enter training and own a home. It is of cult status behaviour without question the way officer's are treated and expected to behave.
@stuinNorway12 жыл бұрын
@tartandaddy What a load of rubbish. The collections taken at carolling by the bands around the world DO NOT go to the band. WHERE are your sources for the division of funds for the warcry ? As for salvationists not giving or doing social work . . then you've met a very limited number. I know MANY Salvationists that are actively involved in social outreach, and a LOT of salvationists practice tithing, whereby 10% of their income is donated.
@Steampunksaly13 жыл бұрын
@princessalikababy123 the answer - never! Never give to the SA! especially if the band is playing - the money goes -not to the homeless but to purchase instruments. Never buy a War Cry - you are paying for the heating and lighting of their worship centres! This organisation is all talk and very little action!
@Steampunksaly12 жыл бұрын
my facts are not wrong-anyone who wishes to make an enquiry to the Salvation Army headquarters 101 Queen victoria St London - will find I am correct. The permission for marriage,cadet's when they may start producing children,how many children they may have,adoption/fostering permission is only the start of cult status.No employer should take those basic human right's from any individual religious or otherwise.
