I have a set of metal files I like to fair out high spots. My favorite at the beginning is a 4 way rasp. I think bender's car would be a blue metallic flake. Bender would look cool with a graphite powder rubbed finish.

In the first episode Bender tells Fry to "bite my shiny metal ass", Fry responds "doesn't look so shiny to me" to which Bender responds, "shinier than yours, meatbag". So it seems it needs to be shinier than skin.....but not by much. Satin?

I know i have no real say in the matter, but I am also torn between the visual cues provided by the show (matte) and the persistent catchphrase (shiny). Is there some happy medium between the two? Where it only reflects lights of high intensity but only has a normal matte highlight area in normal lighting? If only I wasn't so indecisive... or am I?

"brushed" or "satin" is probably the medium? I think a high-gloss Bender would certainly look all wrong and would tend towards the grey he's shown as. We never see reflections in his surface (apart from like specific jokes), he's always an even grey.

The easiest way I've found to deal with layer lines is uv resin. Bigger surfaces are more difficult do work on but you cut sanding time drastically

I would say, paint it matt to match the cartoon and even add the black outlines for the cell shaded look... wouldn't look right if it was all shiny.... Looking great so far though, can't wait to see the end result

Bender himself should be shiny metalic. The car is a harder choice, it's an old model car in the future so I'd probably say "post apocalyptic matte" but maybe just a slight shiny texture just so it seems more substantial.

What filament do you use for your 3d prints?

For this project I've been trying out PETG. It's easy to print and pretty easy to sand. For props I usually like using ABS, but it's such a pain to print with.

I think Bender would be satin. I always figured he's aluminium? Which isn't super shiny. Car should be glossy like a good paint job on a car

I'd say that Bender is a dirty older robot so he would not be shiny so not glossy. But I'd go for a semi gloss blue for the car
