If you have any questions I'm probably not the best person to give you solid advice but I will answer to the best of my knowledge and anything I share i've normally heard from a thai or a well established foreigner so isn't always 100% correct.

Looks like a great place thanks for posting the information. We visited Wat Phuttha Nimit temple near our family home. We went to a pond in the area where you could rent raft style huts. You could get food and drinks delivered to your raft in the middle of the pond. It was an awesome family day.

I am considering looking to spend some time in isan, what are the top 3 cities would you recommend, for single guys looking to date

If I was in your situation i'd probably just work my way up starting with Korat(Nakhon Ratchasima) then on to Khon Kaen and finishing in Udon Thani. I would also probably get on tinder that way I could find people to meet from outside the centre of the cities. Reason I say them places as you can base yourself there easy accommodation, food etc and go on adventures with your dates and visit neighboring provinces etc :) Not sure if that's any help. Yeah its a chilled place for sure, Accommodation we've used is called ถึงบึง รีสอร์ท should come up in google and its spelt Bueng Kan. They have quite a few different places to stay around the lake and it maybe worth seeing what else you could find if you visit! If you do visit and stay at a different spot please let us know how you got on!

Yes my girlfriend lives 2 minutes from wat phu tok ,close to the 3 whale rocks,plenty of waterfalls, !! where you live ,

No only the one time we were doing a 3 day tour from Lampao to Mukdahan to Nakhon Phanom then to Seka before coming back to Lampao which by the way has a small beach as well about 5 mins from our home
