Good tip, I'm getting ready to crack the axles loose on my 09 Ulysses and I'm pretty sure the front has never been off before. Question; if the Axle doesn't come loose, do I break out the 3 foot breaker bar, the impact gun or try a little (very little) heat? I've never worked on these inset axles before but I know they can be tight! Thanks Shane!

Great video. What if the axle doesn't seem to fit in the fork even on just one side. If I'm facing my bike and I try to slide the axle in left to right, it's fine until it hit the thicker part. That will only go through the left fork (no wheel on the bike) if I push very hard. To be sure it wasn't something with the right fork, I turned the axle around so the thick part would go into the left fork first. It was crazy tight. And, yeah, I have the pincher bolt out. Any ideas? Thanks, Mark

Is that John Belushi?....joking aside, great video. Another side effect of unequal fork length is the unintentional side loading placed on wheel/axle bearings and brake components.

Seems like common sense..I accurately measure the tops of the forks to make sure they are equal. Most of the time that gives a sliding fit to the axle..

Yes but which fork to lengthen or shorten? Could have shorter forks or longer forks. :-) jk
