i think it would have been funny if once raku-chan was diagnosed with rabies, the art got like really good and the series got really fucking dark where her friends are mourning her before she dies, and the next episode was the funeral for raku-chan. the rest of the episode was her friends mourning together and shit. then the rest of the series is raku-chan's friends trying to come to terms with her death. then the finale is hitoshi-chan accepting raku's death, but koneko-chan still can't get over it, and the final shot is koneko solemnly gazing at a chair and noose in the foreground, slightly blurred.

Honestly I think you can see the improvement in actual animation. The smear frames on Hitoshi-san, the fireworks (I genuinely liked those okay I thought they were pretty alright), the death of Raku-chan. Regardless of whether it started out as serious and later devolved into a joke, or if it started out purely as a joke, a lot of love went into this. So, at the end of the day, maybe Nyan Neko Sugar Girls is about creating something amazing with your friends ❤ Also that nurse godDAMN

I just imagine in the rabies episode, but Raku-Chan just slowly turns around just to have a realistic rotting face, the mouth slowly opening and closing slowly with a smooth animation, like a 3D character in a 2D world. The skin is a brownish green, the eye balls are shrunken, and the mouth is widened across the face in a snarling position. Then they just carry the zombie like Raku-Chan around like a huge humanoid ragdoll as she slowly breaths in and out still with that realistic face.

The best part about this series is, despite everything that is objectively wrong with it, it is still charming all the way through...well, almost all the way. (I cannot rewatch that 1 minute scream from Episode 3) And surprisingly, in a strange and beautiful way, it ended on a high note. Not Raku dying, of course, but the far more impressive animation displayed during her dying moment. This anime changed my life, indeed, and got to me appreciate the art of stylistic suck.

If any are interested, there is a fan made season two called Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls: Mayonaka. It does an incredible recreation of the series art style. Even the direction that the new voice talent takes stays faithful to the original series. Even while staying true to original, the new studio isn’t afraid to add an element of fast paced action fight scenes and even new characters! It is still ongoing so I hope that more people will support this fan project inspired by such an impactful anime.

Do people seriously think it isn’t satire? There’s a lot of jokes in there that are very aware that basically tells you it is. For example, when the Nurse is speaking with a normal mic for 2 seconds, and they couldn’t understand her, and when she goes back to the awful mic they understand her again.
