A player doesnt have to play a tune or phrase that I know to get my approval. Its funny to watch audience. Joel could play anything and it has my approval. I get it that some gigs are very standard standards gigs though. Its cool, a gig with good players is a-gig with good players.

I'm just blown away by the rudeness of some people. Here's a great musician playing great music and he's called "tasteless and technical" by some narcissistic jerk who's in definite need of therapy. Whatever your name is, seek professional help. You may not like someone's playing, but to post your opinion in public, knowing that the person you're insulting will probably read your post... wow, you have a serious lack of empathy for other people. I'm impressed with the politeness of Joel's reply. What a nice person he must be, as well as a great player.

Thank you for speaking out here Scott. Joel is way to big in spirits to handle hecklers any other way- truly a gentle giant. The moments of music making I’ve shared with him still echo and resonate in me.

How about you just come out and say what you mean instead of couching it in a tired metaphor? Just come out and tell me you think it’s too technical; that it’s facile and soulless. You won’t be the first, but at least it won’t be passive aggressive.
@TheGreavette2 жыл бұрын
@@saxnova too many notes. I find the sax playing disjointed, like he's just running through exercises. I put it in a metaphor in hopes that I could get my point across without being offensive and inspiring a violent retort, but I expect that you will reply with something negative; the very thing I was trying to avoid. I won't reply. I will say this though, he's certainly put his time in and is extremely proficient, which is admirable to say the least.
@TheGreavette2 жыл бұрын
Oh, you're the sax player! It's definitely not soulless, I think you're a great player, my ear is just more attuned to Parker, stitt, Webster, I get bashed for this all the time, but I'm not a Coltrane fan. I never said he wasn't good, I just don't connect with what he's saying.
