It's been a long time since I've been into a game like I have been with Anno Mutationem. It's easily one of the most beautiful games ever made, has an awesome soundtrack, and is dripping with style. The plot may be nonsense, but it's beautiful nonsense that pulls on your brain.
The style isn't just skin deep. This game has character and it's characters have character. There's just character everywhere. The little bits of dialog from NPCs, the homages, and the ridiculous nonsense make this something special.

one thing tek, umm.. she's not an ai, she's a hardlight projection. she can't go out for some unknown reason.. though character art shows her in a wheelchair, so there may have been an accident that made it so she couldn't folllow along with ann, so she basically got the little navi that projects her around anne

Very excited. I just got this game on sale yesterday. I think though from what i gather Ayane isnt an AI. She is a hacker girl just using the little android to project herself, but she is physically at her house. Some of the character bio mentioned she is a rich girl who got sick, and is basically at home in her mansion with a butler taking care of her.

The game is really good and I'm only two hours into it. I think my biggest gripe is the combat but I realized really quickly it will come to fruition as I unlock more of my abilities. Double jump, counter, dash, fireball, etc. I really felt vulnerable at the start of the game and it's understandable since you'll get stronger with progression. I have already committed to the EN voices and plan to finish the game like that but my next play through will be in CN. Not often do I say that I want to 100% a game or know the story from start to finish. Normally the metroidvania's stories are extremely vague you're going to a youtuber to decipher the whole thing because you're finishing a game with barely any clue why you did it. I was absorbed the whole time and I had to get off to get some sleep before work. This is such a sleeper title but it looks so amazing and I thought others would look into it. I will strongly be recommending this game to other friends.

Is it possible to actually only walk when moving Ann? She seems to always be on run mode for me and I've been trying random button combos to stumble on it-but I cant figure out how to walk at a normal speed. Which is weird because she does walk at a normal speed on trailers.

Do you use an analog controller? You can walk with it. I don't think you can move slowly during combat though

Unfortunately, I loved this game to death and understood the plot because said plot is based off of one single thing that made the game infinitely more enjoyable. This game’s world is essentially a S.C.P. Parody. If you are a fan of S.C.P. This game is so much more fun. Every monster or location you find you see S.C.P. Easter eggs everywhere. That monkey doctor is literally Dr. Bright. Hell said monkey doctor’s name is B! Edit: ok maybe not understood the plot as said plot is all over the place but still. Knowing the S.C.P. Foundation makes with game so much more enjoyable.

I don't think the mixed reviews only comes from expectations. I played with the english voices on PS4 so idk if its a version issue or something else but sometimes, the voices isnt synced with the cutscene properly Also some there is an issue with text boxes either having broken english in it or are the wrong character is talking (like i think I was talking with Ann's sister and when Ann was talking, the box was named after her sister like if it was her who was talking). I also dont like when games leaves a lot of important information for understanding the bigger picture by using documents scattered around the world. Because a lot of them arent important so I loose interest reading them which means I loose interest in reading all documents because I never know which ones are important. And thats of in the cases where I found the documents, because that means I might have missed entirely important documents entirely. Also I feel that some characters are useless. Like Raymond. The dude is mentioned multiple times but only appears twice (and one of them is a phone call). The game also have other flaws but I'm not going to list them all here. Dont get me wrong, I like this game a lot, but I gotta admit that it is not because I am able to see past its flaws that everyone can. This game is a diamond in the rough. I just hope that the devs will polish that diamond in their next game no matter what kind of project it will be.

Just finished it yesterday. Can't say it's a game of the year contender though. The story in this is all over the place. We have so many things just mixed in it that not only you can't focus on some things in it, but also the scriptwriter. They try to take so many plots in the story, but not really take it to the end. So many characters is just left out of the picture too soon. Like who's Raymond? He's looking like a cool dood, I wanna see more of him. And that's the main problem of the game, it's not the story itself, it's her pacing and focus. BUT! Even despite that, I had a ton of fun in this game. Main characters are nice and funny, combat is fun and dynamic, exploration is interesting and MY GOD this world, his presentation and music. I spend 20 hours on this game and will gladly do it once more in the near future. Game of the year? No. But does it have to be game of the year to be cool, interesting and have players attention? I don't think so. So Anno Mutationem is totally great in my book.

Yeah, story isn't something I care about all that much... here's my list: 1. Characters 2. Exploration 3. Mood/Art Direction 4. Mechanics and/or Combat 5. Story I do love a good story, but it's behind all that stuff.

That's why I don't really enjoy roguelike games. But in this case, I can except that kind of story because characters are nice and world is cool.

It's because it was originally a SCP game, but they changed it near the end - still, it's a rather good game, and the comical amounts of spelling mistakes are a bit endearing even. Nice to see Chinese devs do something like this instead of gachas and mobile games for a change

Junk collection is also for the crafting system. Investigation comes in the form of the many files you can read. Running from the "slim" was aggravating ann is not responsive enough for precision platforming. I almost dropped the game.

I hated it at first.. but the stunning, and I mean stunning art style and music just won me over... when the action got into it I was beyond sold.. then the first major save point came, and the game locked on that menu. couldn't do anything or even exit the menu and continue playing. Was not going to slodge through all that story again, so I returned it and got a refund. I was truly disappointed.

So you didn't mention the Red Sphere runaway in the lab? This was the worst part of the game that made me drop it and quitrage. Devs made timing for jumps impossible to beat on the keyboard so I've done about 200 tries and yet can't beat it. The sphere just overruns my Ann and it's a gameover. I love this game too, but I just hit this glass wall and can't go further. That's shitty😣

I could make a full video on this. Basically it removes player agency and charges the game from something that requires investigating and exploration to one where you just mindlessly go from objective to objective. It's not as rewarding and it insults your intelligence.

I have spent ~150 hrs in this game. Took all achievements, collected all the garbage of the city over and over again. This game DO have a plot. And the plot is a sister running to save her brother, and her brother went to extreme lengths to get her medicine. Its about the family bond. Just a friendly advice... don't rush through such games. Pay attention. You were off the mark in several areas. Like Ayane ... man how could you screw her up like that. Good effort though on the review though.

@@teksyndicate She is a human. After the accident, she couldn't walk and has to remain on wheel chair. She follows Ann via the droid, which gives a holographic projection. Ayane is basically a hacker so she doesn't need to be physically with Ann to do her duties. If you have ended the game, ****************** (censored due to spoiler, just cooperate with the people). Also, the dad was not always a robot. He was once human and had a son named Ryan. He later adopted the three sisters Ann, Nakamura and Halen. The mechanica virus was an attempt towards trans-humanity, which led to several failures, and caused humanity to lose way more then gain, obviously. There is no prequel yet (though i would love to have it). But more then prequel, i would want to have a sequel. Impatiently waiting for it. The game celebrates the love and care a family have for each other. Despite being the trouble maker they are, they care about each other as much as to go to lengths for each other's safety. I would highly recommend you to play it again with more attention this time. Would love to watch your review then. For now, I must be honest, couldn't watch more then 33% of the video. This is one of my fav. games and I love it when people review it. :) Thanks for doing this though.

love the game. the world is amazing, the whole flores family thing is just soothing. it make me feel...at home.... the combat sucks tho! it is so damn slow and unresponsive! switch performence is attrocious!!! do not buy it on the switch!! switch performence is attrocious! i wish there were more things like the arena. i was disappointed that you could not do the arena again for money since money is kind of locked behind story progression besides the minibar game which is awesome!

your suggestions to replace quest markers is just as bad - all you've done is theoretically add another 2 layers of quest markers by speaking to NPCs and then searching for the location of the NPC you're really after - every time I've come across this mechanism in a game the writing has always been very poor with generic uninspired dialogue and then you inevitably end up being frustrated running in circles trying to find the actual location of the NPC/objective you're actually after - what they've done here for me is is a actually QOL feature to not waste my time even further.
