That's not a key hiding spot, that's the backup slot for when the battery dies in the keyfob so you can still start your vehicle, if you keep your key there then anyone can steal your vehicle, its stupid to keep it there

The “Hidden Key Spot” is actually there in case the vehicle can not sync to the key fob such as in the event the fob’s battery dies. If this occurs, you place the key fob in the “Hidden” space so that the vehicle can recognize and sync to the key so that the vehicle can be started and driven.

I was a locksmith and thats there for programming new proxy keys and also if the battery in your remote dies all you have to do is rest the key in that slot and push the button to start the truck.

That is for programming new keys or if your fob battery is dead you can put it there and then you can start your truck.

Nice video but actually it's not a hiding spot. It's in case your push button start does not recognize that you have a key you can put the key it in there to start your vehicle. That's why the XLT didn't have it because it has a regular key 😀

Actually it’s for when you key fob battery dies. The fob has NFC technology, so placing it in that spot is fallback to starting the engine and using the vehicle. You wouldn’t be able to drive your auto otherwise (there’s no turn-key ignition port/switch).

That’s not meant to be key hiding spot it’s for if the battery in the key ever dies and you can’t start the truck u put the key in there and then it will start the truck

The only problem with the hiding place for the FOB if a thief gets into your truck (which is relatively easy to do) and they hit the start button they are gone. There's no need to leave a message that is a hidden FOB.

Does sport mode work if it thinks a trailer is hooked up? Or, is losing that feature a consequence of disabling the A S/S?

For the new ford keys the indent is in the cup holders .. and that indent is used to start the car when your key fob runs out of battery

That's there for programming and to start your vehicle when fob battery dies.Had slotes for years when vehicle has push button start.

Not on an XLT because it's not a hiding spot. It's for trim levels that have push-button start instead of a physical key. In those vehicles, if the battery in the fob is dead, you put the fob in that spot and it gives it enough charge to start the truck. No need for that if you have a physical key. Read your manual!

That is so you can authorize keys and access your master code so you can change your door keypad from the manufacturers assigned code. As well as being able to start the vehicle if you fob is dead.

Not only is this not for a “hiding spot” is actually a place to allow you to start your car if the battery goes dead. It is also if you need to purchase and new key and want to program is your self

Does anyone know what that center slot is actually called? I have a 17 XLT and mine is jammed from a drink spilling while it was closed. I’m guessing it got to the retractable unit and I have to pull it to open it. I wanna find out if it’s fixable I spayed cleaning oil and that didn’t work and ideas

In a Volt if the car doesn't recognize the remote, you open the compartment on top of the dash, pull up the rubber mat, and there's a little slot you can flip open the key and stick it in to start the car.

And the 2018 to 2020 models but it's in the bottom of your cup holder so a little bit easier to get too.

The 18’s hiding spot is in the forward cup holder right behind the compartment you were looking that’s also more than just a hiding spot that’s where you gotta put the key fob if the key fob battery dies...

That’s not a hiding spot. That is for your Proximity key, if the battery is low. The security magnetic is located in that spot. All Ford and Lincoln have a spot like this if they have a push button start. Your sales rep is supposed to show this to you when you purchase the vehicle. I know I do 😉

That spot is used by the technician to place the new key when they are going to program a new key to the vehicle using the IDS programmer. It’s not a hiding spot. In some of the vehicles it’s inside the center armrest cubby.

Dear everyone watching this video. DON'T hide your key here!!! It's where you can put a dead intelligent access key to still start the vehicle with push button start!! Meaning if you "hide" an extra key here and someone gets inside your truck, all they have to do it push the brake and the start button and so long F-150!

There's actually another spot under the rubber tray to the left of the cup holders on the more base models with the center console. Actually pretty deep can store more than a key in there.

The spot in this current video I found out is really for the Technicians to program the keys to the vehicle and in some cases you can can power up the truck if you key fob battery is dead.

That location is where you put your key fob when the battery in the fob fails, it will start your truck with a dead fob battery

you need both fobs. Take fob 1 place it in the "hiding spot" turn on truck, turn off truck .remove fob1. next take fob 2 place in the "hiding spot" turn on the truck , turn off the truck. The code will be displayed in the dash.

That's not for hiding the key. That's so that you can still start the car when the key's battery is almost dead - the transponder is right under there.

I just got the 2018 Ford F-150 Lariat. That key spot is under the front drink holder. I was told it is for, if your battery is very low on your key fob, place it there and you will be able to start your truck.

2018 the hiding spot is not in the front bin, but for those that have the shifter on the tree, it's where the down shifter would go. Lift the rubber mat on the far left center bin, and there you go.

I don’t believe it is on that XLT, because that particular truck doesn’t use the programmable key. It has a traditional ignition which uses a key. That spot isn’t for storage. It is for programming.

This is called the backup spot. it's used to program the MKEY function. Not a hiding spot

Hiding your intelligent access key (IAK) anyplace in your vehicle means anyone can start and drive off with your vehicle. If you want to keep a spare, make sure you place it in a faraday cage-bag. Make sure you test it every so often. Bad news coming out with your IAK to go someplace and find your vehicle is gone. The bags come in all different sizes. Besides if there is a EMP your vehicle won't work but you remote will still function, LOL. The Faraday bag will keep the remote from activating your vehicle functions.

You are wrong about the 2018. The left section of the center console has the hidden compartment. Its the try next to the driver.. lift up the rubber and bam..

um not a good place to hide a key due to the fact that is where the key is placed to program the key. if you leave your vehicle unlocked someone would be able to just hit the start button and drive off with your 60k truck. Bad idea to do this. the XLT that you looked at probably had a regular key not a key fob with push button start.
