So I wanna share a tip for other players trying to grasp this. Emil mentions slowing it down. If you want to slow down a particular spot you can go to the comments and type @20:08 for example. Then slow it down to .5 or .25 speed and every time you touch the @ it will go rite to that spot and play it slow. You can do it over and over again to get the fast spots and really hear them broken down. This is a trick I used to learn 2 or 3 of Emil's songs. Good luck.

Emil, You seem to have such a gentle and giving spirit about you. To take the time to teach a song of this caliber for free, is awesome. And not only do you have an AMAZING ability/talent, but you have a gift to teach. You, and your music warm my heart, my friend. May God continue to bless you and yours richly.

Hi Emil. This is a beautiful arrangement. It is very 'you' as an arrangement with those distinctive chromatic chord moves. Not to mention your love of open string licks. You watch this and wish you can one day play it and then you start to follow your step by step guide and hey you find you can do it!!!!! Well in the context of your own technique and ways of playing. I have learned a number of your lessons and this definitely makes me more curious to explore some more of those ideas you use and make them mine rather than simply 'try' and do what you do precisely. Cheers (and Happy Christmas when it gets a bit closer :-)) !!!!) Dominic

On the second verse, moving from the C#m7 to the DM9, where the melody note moves from E (5th fret B string) to A (5th fret E string) I find setting up my hand positioned for the next chord, the DM9 prior to strinking the A melody note to be more efficient. For me anyway.

When you say about choosing A major because it allows you to use more open strings, what do you mean by this? My theory is limited, but in G major, every string in standard tuning is diatonic, but in A major the G string is not diatonic. So, doesn't A major actually limit the availability of "good" open strings, compared to G?
@proguitarofficial
@proguitarofficial Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for asking questions! Yes, the G major scale has even more available open strings within the diatonic major scale. But the key of A also has the possibility to use open strings. In the key of A major, the notes are A B C# D E F# G#. Since we have those open strings (two E strings, A string, D string and B string - all of those are part of the A major scale) we can use that to our advantage when playing the melody/chords. If I think about it - I prefer A major over G major for a song like this - because we have the low A string and its 5th (E, which is the root note of the V chord.. one of the most important chords) in the bottom. We can let those ring while playing chords further up the neck. If I had chosen the key of G, I’d had to fret that low G note on the 3rd fret of the E string every time when I need to play the tonic chord (G). This is why the key of A works great on the guitar. In the key of G, I sometimes tune down the A string a whole step (to G) and the lowest string down a whole step (from E to D) which enables me to have that same concept in the key of G. Check out my arrangements of “sound of silence”, “here there and everywhere “, “what a wonderful world” etc. All of those arrangements actually have that open G6 tuning for that exact reason. ☺️ Hope this helps Chris! Kind regards /Emil Ernebro
