Your story about Nugget is very similar to Mountainman 1478's story about his dog. It's hard to beat a good dog. I couldn't imagine going in the woods without one.

Love the duct tape roll. I like bank line too, strong enough and compact. In Canada we get cold nights most of the time so extra wool clothing is important. Around home I don't worry about getting lost, but that is the usual way a camper finds himself outdoors overnight.

Nugget looks like a great dog, I wish I had one for a woods companion. I tested out my 80's Serbian surplus knapsack tonight with my tarp rolled up underneath, and it works great. Love the M14 pouch, I have one in canvas called an M56 universal pouch that fit the old 20 round M16 mags. Nice setup

Great material Blackie! I always learn so much from you. Couple of things that I have added to my own haversack that I thought you might consider as well: 1. Small tube of super glue in my match safe. Superglue was originally created for field medics to use to close up cuts and wounds in a hurry. It works like a charm and can prevent an infection in the wilderness by sealing up the wound. I’ve even used it around the house when I cut myself in a place where I know a Band-Aid is not going to stay on like on my hands for example because I keep washing my hands. 2. Fishing hooks. You just never know when you might need to catch a fish and they can be used to suture yourself much easier when you only have one hand to use. 3. Tincture of iodine. Best antiseptic ever invented in my opinion. Thanks again brother for all you do

Blackie, when i got drafed in '72 what you call a compass pouch was issued to all as the bandage each soldier carried in case of injury. Only the squad leader was issued a compass. Troops followed blindly.

I love the old-school GI stuff. I have the Vietnam era medium Alice pack and the butt pack. I prefer the Korean War style H suspenders instead of the Vietnam War style Y suspenders. I love the chow hall divided metal trays and the cutlery and those chow hall serving spoons are great also. By God you could beat somebody to death with one of those serving spoons.

I've been sweating for a long time and still do, building this kind of kit. lol . I generally wanna carry more first aid more means for shelter. it is so difficult to decide what I need for sure, what i may need and what can be a lifesaver( like emergency combat dressing). trying to make it all in similar pouch like you got.

that's the true point..find what you think you will need and carry as much multi- use items as you can so when the unexpected happens you have a good chance on having the tools and supplies you need...thanks for the comments safe journeys

Nugget appears to be totally in charge of the K9 bushcraft priorities, constantly vigilant and alert for intruders. How about a video on Nugget's EDC? Wasn't that a paracord bracelet around Nugget's neck for a collar? I bet Nugget has completed the Advanced Bushcraft Certification.

Nicely done video. However, is your tinder in the metal can going to stay dry? Maybe a plastic bag around it would improve matters? Just thinking out loud. By the way, I have taken to carrying a 42x42 inch shemagh. Much larger than a bandana, it can totally cover my head and shoulders when correctly tied, although it makes you look like a desert rat. It certainly keeps the bugs off you. The cloth is also great if you want bundle loose items.
