We just bought a new home. Wasn’t something we were planning to do at 60 but it was a situation where a family member had to go into a nursing home and her main concern was that her home stayed in the family. It gives her peace so we were willing. The house was built in 1952 and was the only home they ever lived in. The kitchen is postage stamp size. Of course there is only 2 of us that live in the home, but we have 5 kids that are married with kids of their own and my concern was how we would have holiday meals. I turned a coat closet into a pantry and put my freezer in the basement. And I figure we can put our table in the basement for holiday dinners. We will figure it out. Sometimes life throws us a curve and we have to change how we do things. For the first couple of weeks, I was down and overwhelmed, but then you remember why your situation changed and it brings you peace. Once you find it, solutions are more easily found.

I’m 60 too and my husband wants us to move into a bungalow, but I’m feeling so reluctant for the upheaval and future work renovating. Good luck with your new adventure. We may be 60, but we aren’t out yet lol. We may have a lot more innings in us. Hope it all goes well.

It sounds like we have very similar houses and situations. We're the same age with grown children and grands. I was very overwhelmed at first but after 6 years it's taking shape and definitely more functional than it was at first. Our house no longer feels overwhelming, but just feels like home. ❤

Nice if it's not to your taste do some remodeling spruce it up. Put it back on the market for a bit more. Don't keep something that's not right for you. If you want it in family offer it to family first. Don't feel obligated it's called Swedish- dumping when family guilt you into a present, gift, their history stuff that needs to go to a museum. You can always set it as a vacation rental per week for those needing to come to the area most are 800- 2000 week. Then it pays for future restorations and it's a showcase house. Always preserved. But let go. No need to let guilt of the wrong house for you when you are aging. You will need one floor and space to entertain in the next few years. Let the guilt go and further your life of healing. You only have 1 life it's 2023 be as happy as a clam that made a pearl. I'm 53 and my husband is almost 60 and we are never guilted. We face issues and move on. An apartment is what we needed and so the gigantic house gone. Easy decisions talk to a banker, contractor, and realtor and make decisions on vacation rental if the bank sees rental income then they see a investment & they may rewrite the loan of both onto one loan. Make sure you make the house as every vacation rental has a favy name. Like the cottage at Westbrook, sanders farm, Ranch on plum, Laura's cabin on lark lake. Honoring them or where it's at it what you should do. Make it simple, hire a home cleaner team & get focused on goals.

You and your husband absolutely have the right to keep food for yourselves. Anyone who watches your channel knows how much you love your family and provide lots of food for them. Sorry you don’t like Costco, I personally love them. But I have friends who prefer Sam’s. It’s about a 50/50 split. We accompany each other to our specific stores sometimes. It’s fun and we usually find some type of good deals at both. 😂

You are correct, Costco is more expensive than other warehouse stores. However Costco focuses not only on savings, but also on quality of their products. The food selections are mostly healthier than other "discount" or warehouse stores. I prefer a healthier product that I will pay a little more for, than a cheaper unhealthy selection. If we can all get into the mind set that we do not need to consume large amounts of food to be healthy, just smaller plates with healthier non-processed choices. i think you will come to enjoy Costco eventually.

White key is for deep freeze. I would take out 2 drawer "junk drawers and move them into one in pantry.

Amy, you could get an over the door hook for your aprons on that closet door. I use those in the master bath (4 hook one) and an over the door long shelves for the kitchen pantry door fir all my spices. Luckily enough, when that pantry door is open it sits right next to my oven so while cooking I leave the door open and grab whatever I need. There are five large shelves and believe it or not, every one has filled with my spices.

Good evening Amy! Totally agree with you. I'm always grateful for what I have and my home is just how I like it. And yes, I have a stash for only me also. Even my kids and grandkids know not to touch but if they ask then of course 🤭. Thanks for sharing. Hafa adai and love from the island of Guam 🌴❤🌴

As my Mam, may she rest in peace, always said, "be thankful for small mercies". You're perfectly right, we CAN make do, be resourceful, make the best of things & situations. Haven't had a chance yet to watch all the video, but a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to JANE! Hope she had a lovely day. In Irish, Jane becomes "Sinéad", pronounced SHIN AID.

I had a closet just like the one you have your canned foods in now and my husband bought me a hanging set of wire rimmed baskets for the inside of that door. There are two hooks that just fit right over the top of the door and then the baskets hang all the way down the inside of the door. He also fastened it to the door with a few screws so that every time you opened the door, it didn’t flap around. It was perfect for odds and ends things that needed a spot but you just didn’t have the “right” spot in the kitchen. He bought the white set to match the door at Lowe’s. He also bought one for each linen closet door and I was able to store all kinds of things in them which freed up my cabinets and drawers for things you use all the time. You could put them in any closet door like in the bedrooms too. Also we had The Container Store that had all kinds of different types of containers from big to small for every room in the house. Love your videos.

I bought that same sauerkraut at Walmart for our July 4th get together and it’s not “sour” enough for me! So nice that you have the butler’s pantry and another area to put small appliances.

The freezer in your kitchen never looked out of place in NC, nor here. You make it work for your needs. I'm with you on Costco, which has some great stuff, but is a little pricey. Your home is coming together nicely, and I'm so glad you have your happy place, the pool!
