Thank you Welsh nhs. Our prescriptions are free. I can’t bear to think of the cost of my stoma gear (bags, adhesive remover spray, barrier spray, stoma paste (best find ever)) The delivery company add disposal bags, cleaning wipes and post to my door. I’m so grateful. ❤

Ah wow that’s so good! Even if ours gets cheaper with time and in the end free it does cost a lot before you get there. And for something that you can’t live without! Also great that they add disposal bags and cleaning wipes, that’s something we have to pay for ourselves here too!

@@malinandtom I’m not sure what happens in England. I think if you have essential meds life long, like thyroid medication or stoma stuff you get an exemption card and all your prescriptions are free, not just for those conditions. Of course the nhs is completely broken everywhere else (I work there😕)

Interesting to hear about health systems in other countries. Are your scans and other check ups free? I believe that here in Italy, after your doctor has confirmed your needs in writing , you get a prescription and your local chemist or the hospital chemist will supply you with all your needs free of charge.
@malinandtom

Ah wow that’s amazing! With scans and check ups it’s basically the same system as with aids, that we pay up to a certain amount and after that it’s free.

I am in Australia where healthcare is free for the most part. But we still have to pay for things and the cost adds up. While it is nothing like the US, it still is more expensive to be a sick person than a healthy one. So we kinda have a right to complain. I have multiple disabilities, chronic illnesses and just got to NED with cancer but that's not over yet. I pay for hospital parking, medicines, some scans and tests that I need to do are out of pocket, doctors appointments are also out of pocket but you get some back, etc. Psych appointments are not free (I have bipolar disorder and PTSD) and neither is dental which sucks because radiation treatment on my neck could affect my teeth. I also need speech therapy due to damage caused by neck surgery for cancer, and this is not free, so I can't afford it. It all adds up and puts a huge financial strain on me and my partner because I am on a disability pension and he is on a carers pension. Neither of us are working. I do have to say though, I am about to have a surgery that may result in a stoma and we have a scheme here where you pay a yearly subscription fee and stoma supplies are sent to you (you just pay postage). Is there anything like this in Sweden?

Hi your 4 precious, favorite people of mine. I’m assuming Charlie is Left handed? I always wanted to be left handed, but thru out school, I learned how to write with both hands. ( ambidextrous) 🤷🏼‍♀️🙄🤦🏼‍♀️. They are having a great time on their New Scooters. Great way to teach and learn balance. In the US, Stoma supplies ( regardless if your disabled) having a Stoma, you are considered Disabled and therefore covered under the disability provisions of the Equality Act. 🤷🏼‍♀️. I’ve been on disability since 2010. Anyhoo, I am so excited for y’all in going to visit your New Friends that you met in T.? And wow, an Alpaca Farm, Bella and Charlie are going to Love that. Hopefully Bella gets to see her Friend and bond again even though he is probably all grown up. Can’t wait to see. 😊❤. Have a great wkend and week. I will see you on Tuesday.

Aw thanks Karla 🧡 it seems like Charlie could be ambidextrous actually, he often switches hands when writing! Really interesting with the stoma bags in the US, that’s actually really good! Take care and have a lovely weekend 🧡

It's the same in Spain. We have free healthcare (well, we pay for it with our taxes) and also medicine and stuff like that is also much cheaper because the government pays for it. Again, the gov obviously pay for it thanks to the taxes we all pay but yes, we are lucky. I wouldn't like to be ill in the USA.
@malinandtom
@malinandtom 2 ай бұрын
Yes it’s obviously the same for us, it’s because of our high taxes that it becomes “free” in the end. But like you say, you still appreciate the way it’s done.

Hi...Canadian here! I know this video is not about healthcare, but I feel the need to demystify this free healthcare thing. "Free" healthcare is anything but free! As Canadians were are one of the highest taxed populations to cover that free healthcare. Canadians who have sat down and done the math, realize paying for private insurance, like they do in the US, comes out cheaper than being taxed at almost 50% on your income, as we are in Canada! And in the US if you make below a certain amount you do get free healthcare, so they are not left with no healthcare. As a Canadian this myth of free healthcare is frustrating to say the least. The average wait time in the ER is 24 hours, and it takes over a year to get to see a specialist, and for things like an MRI, or knee surgery - up to a 2 year wait! Many Canadians are forced to go to the US to get these procedures, and pay out of pocket out of sheer desperation. Our nickname in Canada for our healthcare system is, "Hallway Medicine" since many wait and die in the hallways of the ER. Ok...... rant over!

So many in the US don't have private healthcare or qualify for "free" healthcare.

Wow that’s eye opening! What an awful system. It’s also a bit misleading to say ‘free’ healthcare here in Sweden to be fair, as we have a similar system paid for by high taxes. A more realistic term would be non-privatised or state funded. There are definitely benefits to both sides!
