7:16 Most programming languages (including C#, which Unity is based on) have standard libraries for reading and writing to files to disk. Checking whether a specific file exists in a directory is easy, depending on how the dev implemented it the contents of the file might not even matter, just the name.
@designator7402
@designator7402 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, it most likely just checks for the files presence. Everything else would be way too complicated for what's actually happening.
@SohakmetGameplay
@SohakmetGameplay 9 ай бұрын
And for a bit more context: Unity works with "scenes". That's where the objects you interact with in the game are residing, so it's easy doing this file check to know what scene should be loaded at game start.

I just finished Omori last night, so that last bit in this video hit HARD; as I was writing my mini-novel of a review of the game just to figure out how I felt about it, all I saw were glowing reviews about how emotional it was, but... ugh. The way it was written and the way the information was presented kinda spilled its purse too early, and when you already know what happens AND the impact it made just after the prologue, there just wasn't enough to fill in the gaps of the next twenty-something hours. Had it not been for the absolutely adorable character art that made me want to just squeeze every one of them, I would've been fine, but I was just left with all this pent-up emotion and nowhere to go with it; put me in a weird, uncomfortable headspace for the last two weeks. I love that more games are starting to tackle psychological issues; I just wish they were tackling them well, because blowing it often does more damage than good.

this was such a fun and chill video to come right by the end of the year and holidays bs from work and all. honestly thank you for not spoiling the games because there are so few games ii actually play due to some computer unfreindly chronic health issues, and every time ii think about looking into a short game ii rewatch/listen to your having fun videos and think about which ones sound the best in the moment. also it's a little funny that everyone baisically bullied you nicely into making a patreon so you can work on creative projects more. hope you put your next album on youtube if you feel like it, those actually help my brain so much without feeling repetative or like my brain never gets a break. the ending song in this video seems more upbeat (emotionally) than your other songs so far.

I see you read an Ursula LeGuin novel and idk how you felt about it but I love her writing. If you’re interested in reading more by her, I’d recommend the Earthsea cycle of books. They really accentuate her beautiful environmental descriptions and depictions of human introspection and emotion with the fantasy setting, which, without spoilers, does tend to create physical representations of mental hardship.

I love the unique feeling I almost never get from any other channel I watch of "oh hey I like the same vibes and obscure stuff this person I'm watching does", like I don't know of anyone else who has heard of Dreamwild before this video, and the part where you talked about dialogue and footstep sounds in Unreal Life is like " _Yeahhh._ this guy gets how much this hyper specific thing adds pleasant atmosphere to a game as much as I do." Pushing Gaywards being 11 years old made me feel like that gif where solid snake from MGS4 goes from young to old, feels like it just came out yesterday. And yes, it _did_ in fact get me to buy VVVVVV all those years ago especially since the Catalina Collection was a huge inside joke among my friends and I even back then. Weird to think that I'd like a decade later coincidentally enjoy the absolute hell out of Dicey Dungeons without even realizing when I played it initially that it was by the same person who made VVVVVV and Super Hexagon, games I have great nostalgia for. Caster looks like it has strong Pangea Software game energy and I insta-wishlisted that.

You mention how simple pixel games are often ignored. Is it weird I'm the reverse of that? If a game take up more than 10 GB of space I generally pass it by default, the exception I gave myself in like 5 if not more years is for Slay The Princess. Generally it is a lot easier for me to download something small and know that the size of the file is justify than slowly killing my SSD downloading something massive just to uninstall it. I find micro adventures and experiences more rewarding than getting 100% on a JRPG just to wonder to myself why do I even care about that save file when I have no reason to ever touch it again. It depends on the person but more people need to accept bigger isn't always better, in fact it can bloat what would otherwise been an extremely simple yet fun time. Time is the one thing you can't get more of, it have far more value than money, graphics and arguably even fun gameplay. People need to choose how to use it wisely and learn to drop games they themselves don't even want to play and pick up games that make good use out of that time. It is just entertainment in the same way your life is just you being born. Not really an excuse for why you need to dilute the quality of either. If you find 100%ing a game to be fun then that is fine but a lot of people have issues finding the exact point of where it is no longer fun and often commit even harder/longer to something that they don't need to. idk, just my ideals and take on such. As much as I would want to play Monster Hunter the fact I need to slap that monster of a game on it own hard drive feel like a commitment already that I could easily used on 10 other smaller games if not more. Not saying bigger = worst, or playing a game longer than you need to is bad. It depends on the person to draw their own line in the sand and I found myself much happier when I found my own line. Bonus points for killing off my backlog as well.

Coming back as a wageslave, I gotta say I really enjoy your editing and presentation style. It's pretty down to earth, doesn't beat around the bush, feels natural. Sorta reminds me of Demolition D's videos, with how they balance a relaxed yet ADHD passionate sort of feeling. Don't worry about trailing off so much, shit feels human lol. Great taste in games, anyone who's a messenger of KIKIYAMA, likes I'm sorry for what, and fucks with stuff like this is worth subscribing to. Also screw you, now I gotta go throw some money at these developers.

First video I've seen from you, really enjoyed this and how many insightful and eloquent ideas you managed to get down about games I would have never heard of otherwise. Nice job
