I left an expensive suit worn to my grandmother's funeral in my former BFF's house. The suit was brand new and had only been worn to the funeral. When I moved out, I accidently left it behind. Later, my former friend gave it to someone else my mistake. It ended up in that person's storage unit and took me a year to get it back. Never thought to sue for it but would have done so if it came to that. My point being, it can happen. Although in this case, I don't believe she had the shoes to begin with.

The niece IMO knew of her aunt's sketchy past and continued to deal with her until the niece made herself a victim.
