I've been thinking of replacing my alternator with a more powerful one, along with the "Big 3", before car stereo upgrade. Good to know alternator replacement is fairly easy.
@BrandonStellmachАй бұрын
I had thoughts about installing a higher output alternator, but never could justify the cost of one for what I needed. But the install is pretty simple, I think the hardest is routing the new belt, since there is not much room.
@jimsgaragetoysАй бұрын
Brandon, I think the gap of around 0.030 was because of the engine being turbocharged, not the ECU. I wouldn't sweat doing things to your Corolla Turbo since there's nothing you can do to change the future. You had your bad luck. You could always move out to WA State where I am since we don't get much lightening at all. 😉 Be careful of buying spark plugs online. There are a lot of counterfeit plugs being sold and I got burned. I only get them from the dealer now.
@BrandonStellmachАй бұрын
Honestly, I would like to experience the west coast soon! Maybe I will take a vacation out there to experience the roads and the climate! Especially since there would be no lighting! 😉 That’s good to know about the spark plugs, I will have to try my next set at the dealer!

When the alternator on my Corolla died last year I went ahead and bought a light weight crank pulley since I was taking the belt off anyways 😅
@BrandonStellmachАй бұрын
I have been debating on doing one on this corolla! How have you liked it? Any noticeable difference?
@raiderznationАй бұрын
@@BrandonStellmach It made the car ever so slightly more responsive but I had to buy a aftermarket belt that's a different size than the OEM one because the new crank pulley while being like half the weight also had a smaller circumference. If you do the work yourself it's totally worth it but otherwise the amount of power you get isn't worth it when it's freeing up like 2-3hp. I have heard it's more noticeable on engines with more horsepower so it potentially would work better putting it on your car. Overall I'm glad I did it especially combined with everything else I've done to the car. Edit: I did also notice my car idling slightly lower than usual without the AC on. Not sure if that is related to the pulley or something else I've done to the car.
@jimsgaragetoysАй бұрын
@@BrandonStellmach I have one on my 2017 Corolla iM and it helped it rev quicker and be more responsive. Every little bit helps but it doesn't make any power, it frees up power though since it takes less to turn the lighter weight.

My alternator outputs 14.5v stock alternator. Usually indeed if the battery goes bad it causes more resistance and does drop the system voltage
@jimsgaragetoysАй бұрын
That sounds a little high like the internal voltage regulator might be going out.
@BrandonStellmachАй бұрын
That alternator seems to be outputting at the higher side! After I put this one in, it has been running around 14.0-14.2
@jimsgaragetoysАй бұрын
@@BrandonStellmach Yep, normal output reading is 13.5v-14.2v normally.
@Timo-EpisАй бұрын
I'll check it again but i'm sure it was 14.5v and always have been since I bought this car.

Do you know what cheaper OBD2 scanners will actively monitor the alternator while you're driving? Do you have to have leads on the battery for it to work or can some work solely off the OBD2 port?
@BrandonStellmachАй бұрын
Many blue tooth scan tools will do most monitoring for you. I believe the blue driver did that. You do not need to have anything hooked up to the battery to tell, most scan tools just have an option to read battery voltage while driving.

When my corolla started in the morning some time its rattle noise
@BrandonStellmach18 күн бұрын
That is a very common problem with these corollas. It has something to do with the VVT gear rattle on start up. Some people just deal with it, others will tackle the project and replace the work out part.

How do you like the CGSULIT SC880? I also have a '10 Corolla S and want to get a scanner, but they massively fluctuate on price. I've been leaning towards the Blue Driver for like $80, but not sure if one 3 times the price like the SC880 is worth it. Any recs you've used?
@BrandonStellmachАй бұрын
The CGSULIT is a pretty good all around scanner, if you did get one, I would try to get it on a sale. I also used to have a blue driver, which does pretty much the same thing, but it would take a while to load and read codes, and had some connection issues sometimes, and would need to reconnect Bluetooth. But if you have a Toyota, I would actually recommend a scanner I just made a video about. Which also lets you customize some features on the Toyota as well. And cost about as much as the blue driver, but is mainly limited to Toyota/Lexus. Don’t have the best answer for you, as they all have their pros and cons. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4vReJKrrq6rkMUsi=53Ayc2j_2uphfxLW

Is your steering wheel heavy, and jerks to the left/right randomly when driving?
@BrandonStellmach26 күн бұрын
The steering on this car should feel on the lighter side. If your car is jerking when driving, it might be your alignment or worn out suspension.
@AnthonySarino-f7n25 күн бұрын
@ That's really strange. The car belongs to my in-laws, I find the steering incredibly heavy, and the steering jerks randomly. They get it aligned every year despite me saying it's unnecessary. I'm thinking it might be the lower control arms or struts.

@@AnthonySarino-f7nit could possible be a bad steering rack or electric steering motor that might cause the heavy feel and jerks?

Wait so you’re able to run a stock ecu on your turbo build? How? I’m trying to find alternate ways to turbo my tC because my original idea was to run a piggyback aem fic but apparently they were discontinued years ago and everything I find is incomplete. Everything else is straight forward for me other than figuring out the ecu situation. If you have any suggestions or tips, I’d greatly appreciate them
@BrandonStellmachАй бұрын
Yes, I found a tuner that works on Toyotas. He was able to tune the stock ECU. Luckily he is about 1.5 hours away from me. I have seen him do many TC turbo builds on his instagram. I would look up dynocenterpr. He should be able to help you out for tuning! I also went with the AEM FIC originally on my turbo build, and then found him!
