I lived there (on Market Street) during my early childhood from 1952 to 1962. My heart lives there still. It was a joyful place to be a kid! We played at Tydings Park on the bandstand and down near the waters edge parking lot there were swings and seesaw, etc. The snack bar was open in the summer and was a great place to buy a snowball. We walked to town to shop on Washington Street at the two dime stores, Reads Drug Store and, of course, Goll's Bskery. I lived on Market Street before curbs and sidewalks were put in. When the sidewalks came, the neighbor kids all bought strap on skates and we loved skating up and down the block. Lots of chalked hopscotch boards were drawn on the sidewalk too. The property near the lighthouse that currently houses the Martine Museum was Mr. Curier's gladiolus field and there was a large brick structure that had not operated for years where all the windows had been smashed and broken glass was all around. I also remember a crashed airplane (parts of it) that laid on the shore for a few years. The Promenade did not exist yet-- we just walked along the shore when the tide was out. The Bayou was known as the Villa. I remember visiting various people who lived there. The inside ground floor was furnished with beautiful furniture and there was a large room where I remember attending a couple of parties. The apartments were all very small. Also, the cannon that is next to the lighthouse was once located in Tydings Park where it was situated near the war memorial and overlooked the yacht basin. We hardly ever went to the park without a few kids climbing up to sit straddle the cannon! I absolutely loved my time in Havre de Grace.

Very neat and educational video. I’m from Baltimore and an ex took me to Havre De Grace once and I found it pretty neat. It’s a place I wouldn’t mind moving to.

Greetings from Canada! I watched your video to learn how to pronounce the name of your town, as I mentioned the 1813 raid on one of my recent videos! Cheers Warren, 1812 Channel!

Nice job, Adriana. Always fascinated with Havre De Grace. My wife is from Perryville, and your town was featured on the HBO series, "Boardwalk Empire". Decided to search you tube for some history, and found your video. Thanks.

Nice little video! Wish there was no music though, because at some points, the music drowns out the narrator’s very soft voice. But, great job!

I really wanted to watch the video but I could barely hear the narrator. Next time please wear a mic with a windcat, lower the background music and please talk slower. I'm sure you had alot of great information that you worked so hard to research. I gave you a thumbs up for effort but not so much for execution.

What a decrepit town. If you're rich it's cool, but they drove out all the locals to turn it into their yuppy town. Smells bad too. If you're black be careful. Buddy of mine found a wallet there on the ground at a gas station, he walked into the station and gave it to the worker. They had him accosted by the cops for it.
