Hawaii hits crazy game winner to beat SMU and win on christmas day

During the college basketball game between Hawaii and SMU, Hawaii's JoVon McClanahan hit the game winning three pointer with just 0.9 seconds left. The shot gave Hawaii a 58-57 lead and they stopped SMU to hold on for the victory.

I noticed 15 or so years ago at both the HS and college level that coaches didn't seem to give a damn about free throws. It is almost as if teams could spend entire practices shooting free throws and increase their chances of winning close games by 100% but don't tell coaches that. Either they won't believe it or won't care.

Woohoo! My parents used to take us children to the UH basketball games in the 1970s. I remember Tom Henderson, Artie Wilson,... To quote the late Yogi Berra, "It ain't over 'til it's over." SMU's two-time failure to hit the front end of a one-and-one in the last 10 seconds of the game gave Hawaii the opportunity they needed to snatch victory from the Mustangs' hands at the end. The 'Bows never led until McClanahan hit that 3-pointer. Ironically, only one month later (Jan. 26, 2023), Hawaii would lose to UC Santa Barbara on a last-second shot by the Gauchos' Ajay Mitchell, 65-64. You win some, you lose some.
