I like the pace of this version of Hawaii Pono’i. Sometimes it can be sung too slow and draggy, but this version is strong and deliberate. Maika’i e nā haumāna o Kamehameha Kapālama!!

Beautiful song. Greetings from Thailand! I’m one who is trying to save this beautiful, but endangered language by learning Hawaiian and listening to Hawaiian songs (my favourite singer is Keali’i Reichel). I know, most of Hawaiian people nowadays are from different origins, native Hawaiian (Maoli), from mainland US, Japan, the Philippines, etc. However, this is a very beautiful scene that both native and non-native Hawaiians sing their anthem in Hawaiian. Although I live in Thailand, very far from Hawaii, I really appreciate this and wanna say to you all no matter which ethnic groups you are: “please save the language”.

omg that u so much we need to try to save the hawaiian culture. it makes me very sad that hawaiians are the minority of their own island. you may not be hawaiian but you are doing more than a lot of kanakas do and i appreciate it
@thegreypenguin50973 жыл бұрын
@@Bubbzy6 regardless of demographics, hawaiians and hawaii residents need to come together to achieve independence for Hawaii as an independent parliamentary monarchy, just as it was before the Americans.
@thegreypenguin50973 жыл бұрын
@Jermare because a constituonal monarchy would not give any power to the monarchy, and it would be a nod to native culture. Hawaii is and as long as it is part of the USA, always will be, a colonial possession. Independence means that laws could not be made for Hawai'i by a bunch of people who don't live on the island. Hawaii and its interests will ALWAYS be out voted by other states, that's why Hawai'i is stuck with so many senseless laws that hurt it. The people best in place to govern Hawai'i are the people who live in Hawai'i

@Jermare the American political system puts power in the hands of oligarchs and their corrupt politicians under a poorly designed legislative system and unproportional representation
