BYU started very nice. Blocking, hitting well but as the match gone on. Hawaii's serving pressure was too much for them. They just couldn't pass so the hitter had a hard time scoring and when they got the sideout, they miss it in to the nets. I feel like the energy was off, kind of gave up midway through the 2nd set. Hawaii really served well and transitioned well.

One thing I noticed from Hawaii in comparison with other teams is their reliance on international players. Big time recruiting from Puerto Rico, Brazil, Israel and Europe. I don't remember the last time they had an all CONUS and just Hawaii starting line up.
@hankakah41803 жыл бұрын
There is one thing many people don't realize in UH teams in ALL sports. The major conferences SEC, Big Ten, Pac 12, Big 12 ACC, get all the top 5 star recruits. Everyone thinks how hard is it to recruit for Hawaii? Nice weather, the scenery, etc. But think of why people go to prestigious Colleges and Universities? First of all, a degree from Stanford, or UCLA compared to a degree from UH. A School offers you a scholarship that is worth $40k a year, whereas Hawaii is at $10k a year. The parents have a say in this decision as well. The Hawaii games are at 6 or 7 pm, it's already midnight on the East coast, 10pm on the west coast. Lot of recruits want to play in front of family and friends. Family can't come here without paying tons of money for a family of 4, hotel, car, plane fare, time to travel. People have to stay up till 3 in the morning to watch the football game on Cable on the East coast IF they carry the game at all! People on the mainland can DRIVE to some games. The UH football team as an example gets 1 to 2 star recruits and walk ons, while all the major colleges get the 5 star recruits. That is why they have a lot of international players, for one, many of these later play in professional leagues in Europe, and playing for a College team gives them experience. The International players already have a time difference whether they go to the mainland USA or Hawaii, and for some, it might be closer to go from Hawaii to Europe through Asia, than going across the Pacific, across the whole USA, across the Atlantic, to Europe. Some of these international players play for their junior Olympic teams, so they are good and have experience. Being that the USA doesn't have a pro-volleyball league is the reason why so many players from the mainland lack in many of the skills that International players grow up playing the sport. Here's a clue, lot of the local Hawaii players are recruited and playing for other major conference and mainland teams for many of the reasons I just mentioned.
