I think the real MVP is not just Rado, but the entire group that decided to come back and focus on bringing back a title. They all put their professional goals to play overseas on hold. When they lost in the Big West to San Diego, they knew it was now or never.

Congrats to the Rainbow Warriors. They were stellar. BYU looked a bit out of it psychologically midway through the 2nd set. Too bad, as they are usually so good, and if they had been on, it would have been a much more fun close match to watch. Hawaii was just too good from the service line. Glad volleyball is back, and looking forward to attending some games in 2022!

This UH team between 2019 and 2021 will be known as the best Men's Volleyball team ever in UH history up to this point. They lost a few players due to graduation from 2019 but the key players who were there in 2019 or about 80% of that team are still on this team. In 2019, they went on a consecutive game winning streak and they broke their own record of 32 sets won in a row through 3 set sweeps. They now hold the record of winning 74 consecutive sets, sweeping their way through 24 straight games and 2 sets before they lost their first set of the season in a 4 set win. I do not believe any team will be able to break that record of winning 74 sets in a row in the future. They lost to Long Beach State Long Beach in 2019 twice but beat them on UH's home court for the Big West Conference Championship, all games went 5 sets. The thing was that LBSU had the NCAA Championship finals at their home court, not a neutral court like this. Since all 3 matches went 5 games, and won at each team's home court, it's hard to say how they would have done on a neutral court. UH lost in 2020 to BYU at home, which broke UH's home winning streak of 25 games, and swept UH on night 1. However they were using another setter, Brett Sheward. They were also playing without Colton Cowell due to injury. The next night rematch, after losing set 1, they inserted Jakob Thelle in as setter and they almost won set #2, but their offense was less predictable. They then went on to win the next 3 sets and win the match. That was the ending of Volleyball in March 2020 due to Covid-19, BYU was ranked #2 and UH ranked #1. When this year started they ranked UH #1 and BYU ranked #2 , the same as the ending of the year before Covid. This year they were 15-0 up to the Big West conference championship, but lost to UC San Diego in their semifinal match, but Colton Cowell was out injured. They were 15-1 They received the At-large bid and were ranked #1 for the NCAA Championship, with a first round bye. UC Santa Barbara won the Big West Championship, defeating UC San Diego who beat Hawaii the previous night. UC Santa Barbara won the automatic bid for winning the Big West Championship, and they beat Pepperdine to advance to play UH in the semifinal game. UH swept UC Santa Barbara to get into the Finals Match. UC Santa Barbara record was 17-5, 4 of those losses were to UH. So in this finals match, they had Jakob Thelle setting, and Cowell back in the lineup, and the rest is history. UH sweeps BYU in the finals match. UH is not unfamiliar to winning in straight sets.

What happened in 2002 was a sham by the NCAA. They are prejudiced against Hawaii. Their ruling that Costas Theocharidis as an ineligible player because he played against professionals made him a professional. He never had an agent, never got paid, he played against them because they are the best competition to raise his game. My argument will be when you have college golfers male and female like Michelle Wie, Tiger Woods, they both played for Stanford, yet they played in tournaments with professionals, but they didn't get paid and kept their amateur status. If they play against the best to raise their game, how is it different from Costas Theocharidis?

This was a great match, congrats on your well deserved Championship Warriors 🎉🎉🎉. It’s a shame I feel like BYU wasn’t at their best that day because having seen some of their matches I know that they are a better team than how they played, but the warriors were just better, Rado brought his A game and Gage was receiving well as per usual and Cowell and Galloway were great. I liked that Thelle established a good connection with Voss as well, the warriors were just the better team.

Seen a couple comments about the ncaa eligibility following the 2002 incident. That entire eligibility thing is ridiculous and makes no sense. It can completely change the course of someone's life and prevent them from making money where they NEED to. Theoretically if Willfredo Leon had been on an amateur contract for his entire career, he'd still have won his 4 champions league titles and he'd still be one of the best spikers on the planet. He'd absolutely wreck the NCAA and he'd be eligible to play because he was on an amateur contract. Yet as he is right now he wouldn't be able to play because he's being paid? That's ridiculous and it doesn't make sense. Spyros Chakas played for a greek team and Humler played for a team in his country that plays pro. Obviously not as pros though. But why does the money have anything to do with it. It shouldn't.
@hankakah4180
@hankakah4180 3 жыл бұрын
My argument as well. When UH won the National Championship in 2002, the NCAA said that they were using an ineligible player, Costas Theocharidis. As he was home while UH was out, he played to keep his game in shape while playing with and against Professionals. How do you get better if you don't play the best? He did not take payments or have an agent. So why is it that golfers like Michelle Wie and Tiger Woods who played for Stanford, and other college golfers who entered tournaments against Pros, and still remained amateurs? Answer us that NCAA! What happens if the NCAA decides that they can pay their players for promoting them, aren't they now professionals for getting paid? Will the people they play with and against be considered pros now? Will the NCAA restore Hawaii's NC then?

@@hankakah4180 exactly. I could make the argument that tj defalco was ineligible to play because he was on the US national team. He played against the likes of lucarelli and mikhaylov in the VNL and other matches. He kept his eligibility because he didnt accept any money from the national team but what if he suddenly accepts money he becomes ineligible???? It makes no sense. All it does is force athletes to choose between money and the ncaa. Imagine say defalcos family was hella poor and he had to accept money from the national team to help out or he went pro early to help pay the bills and said ill come back to long beach later to finish up my degree and win a chip. Too bad now he cant. Its stupid. Making someone choose like that. I REALLY REALLY want to get a masters from UH and play for the bows in the stan sherrif centre but i also want to go pro and ive gotta choose between them now

@@jaimesantos1170 You're misunderstanding what my point is. The US national team pay its players for international matches per match. But if you're in the NCAA you cannot accept that money. However you ARE allowed to give USAV receipts and they'll compensate you. It makes absolutely fuck all sense. And so what if Theocharides played pro? Chakas has played for a professional team. So has Humler. They were just on amateur contracts. My point is why is the money an issue? It's not even like they're trying to control the level so that we don't get say Zaytsev and Ngapeth saying yeah lemme go get a masters because I'm gonna retire and then they just absolutely dominate the NCAA it's not like that they're saying theoretically players of that level would actually be allowed if they had been on amateur contracts for their whole career. And what I'm saying about defalco is true because international ball especially with the US team he got a lot of court time against players who could probably 4v6 any team in the ncaa and win. There is NO reason as to why the NCAA is so tight on players who have played pro. Like I said imagine you have someone who is born into a poor family and uses volleyball as their way out (something that happens A LOT in south america) and so they go pro. They now CANNOT play in the NCAA which completely seals off US education via sports scholarships which is ridiculous and it needs to change.

@@phixxxer11 No, Harry is correct! They gave all the accolades to Clay but never ONCE did they mention that he played for UH. For the viewers watching a match between these 2 teams, it's important to give out facts relating to both teams, but in this one turns out to be biased. Is it hard for them to announce to viewers that Clay Stanley played for the National Team because the team he played on was good? How many people would go to the National team if they DIDN'T have a good team to put him there? It's a team sport, and they made it look like Clay did it all by himself. Did these two Stanley brothers win the National Championship? Did their playing skills show they got here by themselves? Would they pick Will Stanley to play for a National team by playing on a team that had a losing record? Or do you think they will pick a setter who played for a National Champion? If I knew nothing of both teams and was watching the game, and they mentioned that Clay Stanley played for UH and also the Olympic National team, I would have said ah, they did have a good team back then too!
