Our destination is Vegas but the flights to Vegas were exceptionally expensive. LAX was sold out or really expensive. The Ontario flight was reasonable but the Ontario car rental alone would have been an additional $1,200. No bueno. Long Beach airfare was similarly priced to Ontario but the LGB car rental was about half ($680) the amount of Ontario. Long Beach made most financial sense. We booked our Long Beach flight two days prior to departure.
It was our first flight Long Beach. The LGB flight departed from A8, the new A-gate terminal. There's no central department of agriculture inspection. Instead, there's a small inspection area at each mainland departure gate. This setup will increase the boarding duration.
We were first to board ‪@HawaiianAirlines‬ to ‪@LongBeachAirport‬. There are (16) reclining first class seats consisting of four rows. We had seats 4A-4B in the last row of first class. The flight attendants were nice, friendly and prompt. First class is provided ‪@Apple‬ iPad mini's with over-the-ear headphones for flight entertainment. Movie and TV selections is average at best. Bring your own entertainment and music for a better flight experience. Before take-off, you're offered a Mai Tai or ‪@hawaiianmaid‬ POG fruit juice. After take-off, you're provided salted macadamia nuts and choice beverage. About 45-60 mins. into the flight, the first class meal service begins. Long Beach is one of the shortest flights you can take from HNL to the mainland.
The ‪@LongBeachAirport‬ is small. Similar in size to Lihue but mostly outdoor air like Kona airport. It would be a hard pass during the hot summers. The car rental facility is walking distance across the street from baggage claim. No bus, shuttle or tram needed. The car rental facility is in a double-wide trailer. If you're a executive elite grab-n-go ‪@nationalcarrental‬ then you're out luck after 7pm. They consolidate the line with Alamo and you're assigned a car (no choice).

Nice boutique airport! Similar in size to the Hawaii outer island airport. I can’t imagine the hot summer waiting to board in the open air waiting area. Thanks for the comment.
