I bought a 2009 TMEC 200 Enduro back in 2011 and it arrived in the same type of crate this Hawk did. They look very similar but can see the Hawk 250 does have some more modern touches with LED signals and better looking plastics. The cost back then was $1,100 and the only upgrades I've made are new rear sprocket to gain top speed. It's still a great bike to ride around town. It came with street tires so it's trail riding is best done only in dry conditions. If your expectations equal the amount you paid you won't be let down by a Chinese bike.
@skydcontrol2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! A little bit of maintenance goes a long way also. I've been impressed with the minor upgrades I've done so far. I'm hoping to make a major suspension upgrade to the rear, stock is fine for the various roads, paved and dirt, but in the rough trails it too much like a pogo stick.

My son and I are both considering buying one of these. Some years ago, I acquired a pair of 1976 Honda XL350s. We had a blast on these but they were quite worn out. I still have one that is a candidate for restoration but it’ll be a long time collecting the parts I need. My son and I then both bought XR650Ls. We owned them for about a year but we weren’t able to have as much fun. They were too much motorcycle for off road fun. I broke a pair of ribs falling down when I came to a stop because the front wheel was on an elevated rock and there was nothing under my feet. It must have looked really stupid but I really got hurt and the anticipation of fun on that tall bike was gone. I just want to putt-putt in the woods these bikes look like they might be fun for my skill level. I’m thinking of going with the carbureted model because for about $100 I can buy a better quality carb and I’m not sure how much of a headache it would be troubleshooting EFI if it had issues.
@skydcontrol2 жыл бұрын
Ya that's what I got this for was just to explore and ride some trails but with a little upgrading it's a capable little bike. I've got a suspension upgrade on the way and I should have a video up for that. I went with the carb model for similar reason as you, although my friend over at Motocheez has the DLX and has zero issues with it.
@bjr23792 жыл бұрын
I recently looked at a new 2022 DR 650 and XR 650 and thought they were both tall and heavy. Plus I was quoted just under $9,000 for either bike out the door. I want to get back into riding and introduce my kids to riding, but I don't want to spend a small fortune. These look like a much better option. I'm a experienced mechanic could easily fix anything that breaks.

What did you end up going with?
@wizardmoto2 жыл бұрын
Subbed about 20 seconds in when you mentioned NH. Grew up in Westmoreland. I blew up my 650 this weekend and I think it might need a pretty significant rebuild, thinking about snagging one of these in the meantime. I figure they're about the same price as a full rebuild, and will get me back on two wheels WAY quicker. Any reason to buy another bike is a good one, if this review ends well I think I'll be ordering one. Edit: After watching I'm torn. I already had a restoration project for "fun", and now my main bike is actually broken. Not sure I want to order ANOTHER bike that will immediately need work. That having been said: I'm not buying a new "real" motorcycle, so I guess the maintenance would arise on any bike within this ridiculously low pricepoint.
@skydcontrol2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! I went above and beyond when I got the bike, you can get the bike together and ready to ride in an afternoon easily. The biggest thing is that these china bikes need to be given a once over to check bolts and nuts and things like that. Think of it like you're the dealer prepping a bike for sale. My buddy @motocheez (check him out here on youtube) has done a number of these china bikes and he's ready to ride in a couple hours.

If your looking for epa/dot licensing but don't need CARB certification look at the tbr7 same bike as the hawk but slightly cheaper, only real difference is color and maybe some emission stuff, taotao makes so many scooters they are a fairly common name for the DMV at the very least, and will probably get you less questions

It's not a matter of the horsepower really, it's more about the suspension, frame, etc. I've had motocross bikes, trail bikes, dual sports. What's crazy is if you buy a dual sport bike from the dealership you could buy one of these bikes with the money they rip you off in bogus fees. People look at MSRP but don't even take into consideration the dealership jacking up the price. I live 2 miles away from a huge warehouse filled with COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED motorcycles and 4 wheelers. I've even seen them unloading COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED bikes in crates at the dealership. Oil and fuel is their "setup". I believed the bs about setup at dealerships until I was called the the warehouse to fix a leak. Standing looking at a huge hole the laborers dug for me in front of a bay door ( the kind 18 wheelers unload in) I seen more bikes than I'd ever seen in my life and all COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED.
@skydcontrol Жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the dealership too - I had a good friend worked at a Suzuki dealership and every bike he sold got setup for the rider. I'm sure they're not all like that though.
@not1au Жыл бұрын
It's funny you can actually watch videos from all the major motorcycle manufacturers assembling their bikes from start to finish, even the initial start up to make sure everything is on point. Extremely far fetched to think they would then disassembled the bike so someone else can reassemble. No matter who worked where, what you been told or what you believe a major motorcycle manufacturer isn't going to build a bike to their ridgid standards, disassemble it, trusting Joe shit the ragman at the dealership is going to reassemble it at their standards then warrant it. SIMPLY DON'T HAPPEN. Unless that dealership is dealing in Hawk motorcycles or something similar. 5 years ago my dad bought a used 2013 PCX from a dealership. "We done all the maintenance " he was told. Black oil ( dealership just changed) and the $5 air filter was still the one that came with the bike. Take with a grain of salt anything anyone ever tells you at a dealership car or motorcycle. Even then it will over seasoned.

Also dealerships, contrary to what people think or have been told, do not make much money on the sale of the bikes/cars/ATVs, etc. They make money on the financing, extended warranty, and service. Again, first hand knowledge. So while I agree with your sentiment whole heartedly (you can save tons of money assembling and setting up your own china bike) the blanket statement of how dealerships rip you off isn't quite right.

Dude, sure looks like your handlebars are on backwards....ends generally curve back toward the rider, not to the front. Could be the camera angle, but sure looks odd
@skydcontrol Жыл бұрын
🤣🤣 that's what everyone says. It's just because I have them turned up a bit and then the wide angle lens, but I assure you they do not turn away from me. However my mirrors were upside down, apparently they ship them that way and I just didn't notice

Hey Thanks for watching. Ya I think so, might be a tad tall for you but no worse than any other dual sport. I actually feel this bike is made more for shorter riders than tall ones.

Will we? I don't expect it to at 1/4 the cost. Nobody's claiming it's built to Japanese quality and precision. I've had yamaha's, suzuki's, LOVED my DRZ400E, this bike isn't on par with those. It serves a different purpose. You don't need a Callaway to have fun playing mini golf.

Hey there, sorry I somehow missed this comment - I'm not entirely sure at this point. I know when I did mine there were only a couple of states that were giving people issues. CA, NJ, and a maybe another one? check out the chinariders forum and ask on there I bet you'll find someone who knows for sure.

Instead of another hawk look into CSC TT250
@skydcontrol2 жыл бұрын
The TT250 is a nice bike, basically a nicer version of the hawk. I'm using a TT250 head gasket on my hawk for a small compression boost. I'm thinking next bike might need to be something a little different, we'll see when the time comes.

What’s the top speed without modifications
@skydcontrol2 жыл бұрын
I actually dont' know from personal experience because I modified the bike before I ever rode it. But from other people I know, it's about 60mph and you don't want to keep it there long as the RPM's are quite high. Re-gearing is the best way to fix that. I'm quite happy with my setup.

So dumb question I starred at this video a long time and it looks like your bars are on backwards. I am sure it must be an illusion but man they look really weird.
@skydcontrol2 жыл бұрын
It's so funny, you're not the first one to say that. I think it's a combination of the wide angle lens, the fat bars, and the fact that I have them rolled forward a little because I'm tall and need the extra room. But no, they're not on backwards :-)
@brandonjohnston17332 жыл бұрын
Your handlebars are on backwards
@skydcontrol2 жыл бұрын
Haha, what? I'm running Fatbars with a riser/adapter. If they were on backwards the bend would point towards the front of the bike. I do have them rotated up a bit, that's how I like them because I'm tall, it allows me to stand up on the trail better.

I had to swap sides on my mirrors also, just got pro hawk 2021 in July and I love it, less than 300 miles on it had to make a rear brake peddle lever, new front & rear sprockets 17/45 and 15-40 Torco racing oil, beats the new Honda that cost over 5gs, bout to bring it inside for winter. Cool videos thanks..
@skydcontrol3 жыл бұрын
Ya, for the money you can't beat it with a stick. I'm not crazy about the rear brake lever but it's usable...I may heat it up and try to put a better bend in it. I'm running 15-40 Rotella myself, but I stay away from the which oil should you run argument, cause everyone has an opinion. I'm about to winterize mine, I might make a video on that too.

KTM's are great - the cost to purchase and maintain them would be for MANY hawks. If I had to choose between the hawk and my DRZ400, I'd take the DRZ every time, it's a better bike. But it all depends on what you wanna do with it and what you wanna put into it.

I personally wouldn't, but I don't care to ride on the interstate at all. If I was going to I'd want it geared higher I think maybe a 17 tooth front, and only for short distances. I like to stay around 55 or under with knobbies, just a personal preference mostly.
