I recently bought and unboxed the most affordable Cheap Amazon pit bike dual sport, the Xpro Storm 150cc there’s many different brands Tao Tao, Apollo, Trailmaster. Because they are Amazon bikes I was really apprehensive to order one. But after trying it out I decided the quality was better then I thought it would be so I ordered this X Pro Templar 250cc. This video covers ordering it, setup and tips for maintenance, getting it registered in Washington and finally we do a trail ride with it. Next video will cover some upgrades and things I would like to change on the Templar 250.

Fun fact for the haters. Back in the 70s when Japanese bikes were first hitting the race tracks and maicos, atks, can-ams, ect we’re top dogs, everyone was sceptical and talked bad about Japanese bikes . They made improvements and started winning in years to come. Now everyone says buy Japanese bikes, but new coming manafacturers are great for keeping the big brands honest. Who wants to keep paying more every year because the big names think they have the market cornered??

Yup, it feels like the 1970's all over again, but I will hold my breath due to the cheap quality of Chinese parts. That being said, there are some AMAZING Chinese products, just as there are horrible quality ones, so it all depends on the situation and what you're looking for.

I’m sure it’ll do the job but I doubt it’ll ever hold up the same to the other Japanese bikes. The price will definitely reflect on quality when it comes to motorcycles. You don’t see people on Chinese bikes running them hard for a reason

@@sgthenny9636 i had a 2022 Templar 250 just like this in the video and i put 6k miles on it before selling to my neighbor's nephew. he rides it offroad and rides around town and has about 14k miles on it. he had the suspension tuned and revalved for a 200lb rider and its been fine ever since. my current bike is a GPX FSE 300R, and it absolutely destroys a CRF 300L and KLX300. it also beats the DRZ 400E and has better suspension than all 3. quality is on par with japanese bikes. the suspension is better than the crf and closer to a ktm wp setup, just not as precise and finely tuned.

Loved your review of this "higher end" China bike. Last summer I picked up a Raven bsr 250. I believe it was $1422, assembled, fueled and ready to ride from a local China motosports dealer. I've put 1000KM on this little putt putt. Besides a few bolts to retighten...it has been reliable as sin. It has been fun to ride and while not a power-house it is good on the trails and a bit of road use. I had to gear it down 2 teeth on the front sprocket to help the off road manners. I've been riding motorcycles for 50 years and at 6ft 7" and 280 lbs I'm certainly a bit large for this bike but I enjoy being able to get down the road and trails. The top speed with the gearing change is 63 mph. Some of these 'China bikes' get a bad rap but this bike and two 125cc youth 4 wheelers we purchase for the grandchildren (from the same dealer) have been very reliable and are quality builds.

I was listening to the revs in and out of turns and the hills, the bike sounds healthy. Plus the electronics and the plastics, a nice bike. With the oil cooler it'd be hard to distinguish between an Enduro from like 5 or 6 years ago. Really great video Mike

First time viewer here. Nice work! Very informational, well communicated and smart. I like your "I don't need to change the carb" attitude. Cheap bike, make smart fixes. IMHO if you buy a cheap bike do as little as possible. Otherwise just drop the money for a better bike to begin with. I have ridden the PNW my whole life, like 45 years. Ridden pretty much everything in Oregon and Washington. FUN! Small under-powered bikes are a blast in the slick PNW single track gnar. I rode 125 2 strokes for years. Had a AJP PR4 and a PR5, both a RIOT in the slick woods. The AJP uses a Chinese motor but the rest is really cool design and components. Really good fully adjustable name brand suspension, cool frame designs, mass centralization and freaking fun to ride. Good stuff, thanks.

excellent unboxing with great tips on assembly. you are probably going to sell a bunch of bikes for this manufacturer. i have been riding dirt bikes since my dad bought a honda trail 90 in 1964. it was an excellent bike to learn on but, i out grew it in about a year. this would have and been an good entry level bike in those days. you will always want to go faster and faster. 1n 1969 one of my dad's buddies bought a new 750 honda. we went with him to el mirage dry lake and had rip across the flats. when ken asked me to see how fast i could go on it. i weighed about a buck twenty. i was able to get her up 120 mph indicated flat out laying down on the tank with my feet on the passenger pegs. that was so exhilarating. i've had the speed bug since then. now at 70 years old i don't care about speed so much but i still want to dirt ride. this bike would be excellent for me now, striped down to its bare bones, coming in at about 220 would be a blast. easy bike to just kickstart. not much to break when you dump it. can't find old Japanese mfg. dirt bikes less than one of these new. but, of course we don't know their longevity. but as Mike stated at the beginning of his evaluation. with the ability to do the maintenance / upkeep on the bike it may last a long time. i wonder if this company trades publicly?

My roommate bought one of these. So far he loves it. We are both very mechanically inclined but his bike was much less assembled than yours seemed to be and it took us around five hours to put it together. Getting all of the wires to fit behind the headlight was tricky. The chain stretches pretty quickly but a DID would probably help that. He installed a Nibi carbuerator on his and it really helped with starting and performance. He also did away with the choke trigger and just reaches down and manually chokes the carb when needed. Overall he has been pleased with the bike. I ride with him on my Benelli TRK 502x. It has encouraged me to push my limits as a person who is new to ADV bikes and offroad riding. The offroad designation on the title has made getting a tag in Alabama tricky but he sent off for a revised title and that should solve the issue.

Carb: Youall PE28, 120 main jet, 40 pilot jet, 1.5 turns out on idle mixture screw. Like all bikes imported, the carbs must have the air/fuel mixture screw hidden behind a welch plug. Remove to adjust AF mixture. The bowl also has security break off bolts, so remove and replace with socket cap bolts so you can re-jet to your hearts content.

Hi Mike, Great Honest Review. I was really impressed with the Bike. It looked like it had plenty of Power for the Trails. You definitely can’t beat the Price. I’m thinking I will get the x Model since I’m 5’ 11”. I’m 63 now with a bad Back so I’ll be taking it a little easier on the Trails anyway. I have a BMW R 1200GS but it’s a little too big and heavy to really enjoy the Trails the way I want to Ride. Thanks for showing us this Bike. I’ll be checking out the next Video also.👍👍

DUDE,, excellent assembly video with a TON of great tips during the process.. I raced MX in the early 80's while in HS. This bike is about the same we had being sponsored by the local Yamaha dealer with the YZ 250 works bikes at that time. We were two stroke so there was ways to port and polish for more HP and torque. when racing torque is the king. Being able to drop in a tight corner in 2nd or 3rd where everyone else is a gear lower you can shoot out and leave them in the dust. We now some years removed for racing days, full time RV and was looking for a nice enduro for city and some trails where we travel. this and some other seem like a great mix is new and old to keep the cost affordable. THANKS for your efforts and a great vid..

Totally Agree with the point about sizing these mail order bikes. Thats the one thing I've really been looking for. The videos out there skip over it or don't show it well. Giving your phisical charististics, climbing on, seen the suspension settle and foot position was right to the point. Its the one thing thats hard to get your head arond when there is no dealership to visit. Great video! What elevation are you rigning at?

For an extra $200, I bought one of these fully assembled about three months ago from Amazon. I haven't ridden it a whole lot yet (winter hit) but the time I did spend on it was enjoyable. I've had no issues so far. My MSO also said "off road use only" but (depending on which state you live in) the main requirements for street use (plates) are: brake lights/tail-light, turn signals, headlight, at least 1 mirror (2 here in Ohio) and a horn. Also, I'm 6'2" and about 210 pounds so yeah, the bike feels just a little small for me but I only ride it on the streets so I don't really get a lot of bouncing around. Eventually I'll tighten up the rear shock a bit.

I purchased the M and have had it for a year and a half now and the bike is awesome. The M has a reserve on the petcock. The M has a 36" seat height. I also didn't like the choke up top so I removed it and installed a traditional choke. I didn't like the giant spring on the kickstand so I modified it as well. It doesn't have a gas gage witch sucks. I also went with an x-ring chain. I changed the carb just to find out the one on the bike is identical. The bars on it bend easy so I swapped to some pro taper and a nibble 1/4 twist throttle. I have a 15/38 sprocket and it will do mid 70's. I've modded mine alot and have more mods sitting in the garage for later. The bike is awesome. Ride hard and enjoy bro.

I just sold the sister bike (Titan) to the Templar. The engine is essentially a Honda 230 copy even though the Titan was listed as a 250. I had it for almost 3 years and rode the heck out of it. I did add different springs to the front forks. Also, I changed my back brake reservoir. It worked great as a trail bike.

My son-in-law bought the hawk version. It was about $1800 delivered to the house. Seems pretty good off-road but it seriously lacks power on the street. I don’t know if the gearing is different on this one because this seems more like an actual trail bike dirtbike, where his was more of a dual sport. Came in the same type of crate, and we had damage as well on the crate, but no damage to the motorcycle itself. It was his first motorcycle ever so he has served him well.

I have the Trailmaster tm35. It’s the exact same bike just rebranded. Had it for 6 months. Dumped it probably 10 times and still holding up pretty well. 42 tooth sprocket top speed 70mph. The bad: battery needed replaced immediately , chain was horrible, buy a x ring niche chain, headlight stopped working, the front forks need redone, the wiring is cheap, and engine mounting bolts break. The good: starts every time, Faster than my Yamaha xt225, can take a beating, and is a lot of fun. I like the bike, I don’t love it. If I could go back, I would buy a used Yamaha yz250 for about the same $ instead. But it’s not bad for a brand new bike that cost $2300 and is shipped to your front door.

Nicely made/edited vid. Great to see you have riding experience, it shows in your bike's initial setup. Engine sounds great, doesn't sound like a cheap pingey piece of crap. I to ride an XL650L as an adventure bike, how ever, was looking for something as nibble as a 250 (air cooled) for deep in trail-less riding, But, believe I would/will have/buy the X mod, would be a lot easier on the bike with the 6th gear for hard/paved roads. Something the XR650L needs (6th Gear) With the 250 cc bikes, I like the short stroke engines for tooling around. It's kinda a shame there are no license-able trials bikes any more, I'd have one if they did. But, air cooled is the way and yes I would install the oil cooler on it, that's makes a plus engine wise. Good set up procedures and great vid Thanks

I’m looking forward to seeing more updates on your two Templar bikes. Hopefully you can do a comparison video of each bike side by side sometime. There’s not any videos covering the real difference between the two bikes. Take care 😊👍

Mike, if you're worried about the bike being too tall, just look up a picture of the Paris/Dakar bike champion Gaston Rahier next to his BMW Dakar bike, your bike won't feel too high ever again.

GREAT VIDEO AND SO WELL DONE! On point, no extra banter or unnecessary information. I’m 48 and have owned all Big brands settling on KTM and Yamaha. Currently a 2013 YZ250f rider and my sons on a MotoTech 48V electric. I’m looking at a new inexpensive trail bike to ride with him while training, don’t need all that MX torque. I’m looking at the TrailMasters and you’ve opened my sights to the X Pro brand. It’s videos like yours that are extremely helpful and useful for calibrating the decision what direction a rider needs to go with riding style and quality in mind for this price point. Do you know of TrailMaster and how would you size them up against yours? Seems the same exact frame manufacturer and possibly both running Zongshen built engines

I have the 2021 xpro titan 250 actually not a 250, but I've had no problems with so far. I installed a nibbi carb and changed out the fork oil and engine oil. Also adjusted the rear shock a bit. Use lock tight on everything.

EXCELLENT REVIEW..I nabbed a TrailMaster35 and put the NIBBI 28 on and with better sprockets it’s SOLID for the $2000 price tag! They’re almost the same bike and I’m sure we are both getting our value from what’s offered. Anyone considering should wait no longer..it’s an investment that pays out HUGE if you like riding

Seems decent. The klr 650 I rode back in the day was probably geared similarly. It felt and sounded like it was at 7k going 55. I couldn't really tell cuz I couldn't read anything through the vibrations! Watching you ride it definitely seemed like you put it through it's paces. Maybe it's familiarity but I'd be considerably slower...

The rear brakes were terrible out of the box and the front were fair even after cleaning and break . Bled and adjusted both and they are great! Greased the rear linkage and locktite locktite locktite and anti-s everything. REMEMBER to oil the air filter!! Rerouted the tail light wiring. On the carb I pulled the plug over the air adjust and tuned that and adjusted idle and the stock carb now works very well!! (I’m at 900ft ASL). 9” piece of 1” x 1” aluminum “angle iron” strapped to the muffler with hose clamps solved the rubber spacer problem. Also… Adjust YOUR SAG for sure! Have fun!

Awesome video Mike! What a great bike for the price! I'm on the short side too, 5'8" with boots on and you're correct, it's hard to find a bike that fits guys like us. My 2018 Beta 300RR was amazing, but man, hard to put my feet down comfortably. I think you and I are around the same age (43) and I'm at the point where I just want to have fun. Don't need the fastest or flashy or any of that. I find myself ripping my nephews 2021 CRF250F since I fit so nicely on it! Hell, I have a old ass '92 XR200 that I love to rip! Low on power, but super fun! A bike like this is crazy good for the price and a GREAT way to get people into the sport. It'll be REALLY interesting when the Chinese get fuel injection on these and it would be cool to see a cheap 200cc two stroke maybe even with oil injection around the same size as this Templar 250. I was very impressed how this bike took that switchback hill climb you went on, this thing seemed to be in the meat of the powerband the whole time. Looking forward to more videos of this thing! Glad you're having fun out there Mike, wish I was out riding with you!

After owning a BMW F800GS, where the engine was made in China, and having issues with that engine I now only buy motorcycle models that are made in Japan like the Yamaha WR250R, Honda CRF450RL and Africa Twin. Maybe I had a lemon F800GS? The Templar does seem like a lot if motorcycle for the money. Great video!

Last year I purchased an SSR 189 which appears to be an extremely similar chassis. The bike has been nothing but excellent so far, I just change oil frequently. I also recently picked up a 250cc straight from Zongshen that looks like the exact same engine for my ATC200X. I dont understand the hatred for the Chinese built equipment. Side note, fellow Washingtonian here 👋

Cool compact bike ,remember me too the XR/XL 200 with the two valve engine.I like bikes mixed from a Trials and a Enduro bike can ride every day or under hard offroad conditions. I think a skiplate was a usefull upgrade ,even the engines case left ride need more protection because on small rocky trails with deep digged tracks some rocks "eat up" your case.

Hey MIke. Awesome breakdown. All similar to my experience with a 250cc from China. I'm up in Alberta, and our selection of these bikes seems a bit different compared to the US, but the Bike I have is solid. Could be the names they stick on the plastics? Like you've said, if you're into maintenance and good at recognizing and modifying/resolving a few flaws here and there, then they are an excellent deal. I've had some trouble with the carb as I'm at a pretty high elevation, so I went straight to the Nibbi 30mm, jetted it for my area and woke it right up! The Nibbi eliminated any starting troubles. I got noticeably more power and throttle response. Worth every penny. An easy spend for under 100 bucks, considering the cost of the entire bike. However, I'm excited to see your mods on your stock carb because I had a tough time making the Nibbi fit with its different form factor. It was tight on my bike! I ended up going with a pod filter and bypassing the stock air box, etc. Stuck a filter on the crankcase vent etc. The Zongshen 250cc engine has been solid for me; it's nothing exotic but has a good low-end grunt and no issues. Just change the oil frequently and check the valve lash often - usual stuff we should do anyway. Thanks for the great content! Keep 'em coming!

The nibbi 30mm carb upgrade with the carb manifold extension with the aftermarket air filter and it’ll rlly open it up even if u can find an exhaust that will bolt up to it that’ll be even better for more power

Nice review and great detailed assembly description. Obviously this isn't your first bike build. I'm in Canada and those dual sports aren't available here yet. I'll be looking into 1 of these from the states this year. Just doing more research to see who to order from. I read some of the comments about parts availability and parts for my made in china 2007 2 wheel drive 200cc quad are everywhere online and the parts are cheap. The only difference with made in China toys, is you just can't walk into local stealership and get a part in stock. But even older brand name bike's, the parts need to be ordered as well. I have a couple of older japanese dirt bikes 1990's 2005 and when I need parts for those, the stealer-dealer has to order from the states or a few times from Japan and that took 3-4 weeks.

Kickstand Fix: Grind the “stopper bracket” on the frame a small amount about 3-4mm and my kickstand is now several inches higher and tucks in closer to the body and is no longer in the way of my foot/heel. I added a second hole in the spring bracket about 1cm down from the factory hole and that tightened the spring enough to hold it up. #Winning!
