I guess for the idea of "Black Storm counters Winter Fury", these things can be said: - Black Storm will not heal the dead or make the 90% dead usefull - Black Storm will not protect you from paying for repairs (in this case, _only_ doing 2 damage is realy usefull - as that is exactly how much they will repair) - Black Storm does not allow you to move through snow - Black Storm needs way more power charge, so it will never match Winter Fury 1:1 - Black Storm will never be up before Winter Fury, needing the push of Winter Fury to charge - Black Storm can waste a lot of charge, if it is already mostly charged when the Winter Fury Push comes Black Wave might have been a better choice: - 5 bars vs Winter Furies 7 giving it a edge in useability - Heal 1 plus Damage 1 still counters the Winter Furies damage (after Winter fury, you are 2 HP ahead. After, you are both on 9 HP).

Speaking of Black Wave, I would've popped Black Wave first and pushed as hard as possible before Olaf's Winter Fury...😅 But my god, I don't get why the other player built so many rockets. If you're defending the center, you only need 1. You also can't push with rockets since they don't work like Battleships in Advance Wars Days of Ruin. And finally, they're super duper slow on terrains other than roads.

@@stevengu1253 There's a reason why the guy playing Hawke is below 800 League points. His thoughts were probably that if he got rockets in place to cover a large swat of territory, it would dissuade Mangs from pushing with his direct units. That would never have worked for 2 reasons. First it's a non-FoW match. He can plan around the rocket's range, and you'd need a perfect wall of units to protect it, unlike in FoW wherein you just need to cleverly place the rocket and escort units to keep it safe. Second, it's a high funds match, any losses or damages Mangs incurs he can easily replace. He can practically sack several units if it means pushing the frontlines since he can easily reinforce again with expensive units, unlike in a regular match where every unit counts and you want to trade as favorably as possible. In a high funds match, that doesn't matter as much so long as it nets you some form of advantage, and again, it's non-FoW, any units you lose is fine since you can see the whole map and know exactly what you need rather than blindly guessing what unit you'll need and potentially wasting funds.

Theory: Against Olaf, Hawke should always go for his CO Power over his SCOP. Go to 31:37 and imagine what would’ve happened if Hawke used his COP there. Hawke would’ve shrunk that value gap to 13k, and could’ve made a big push with his 130/110 units. Up north, Hawke’s 6 HP Md Tank could’ve taken an engagement against Mangs’ 7 HP Md Tank. While that’s the only engagement that would’ve significantly changed, Mangs’ next turn would’ve dealt less damage overall as Hawke’s units now had 110% defence. From here, Hawke’s COP would now outpace Olaf’s SCOP. Of course, this isn’t the best match to show that in, but the Hawke player would certainly have played differently had he gone into the game expecting to use his COP instead of his SCOP.

on slower paced maps where units clump up and it becomes a battle of formations, artillery become extremely useful. if you have a lot of fodder, I would argue that artillery are better than in fog of war, even if they can't sneak a shot in.

The thing about Neotanks, is you're not paying 6000 more than a Medium Tank to have a unit that hits harder than a Medium Tank. You're paying 6000 extra to have a regular Tank that hits like a Medium Tank and has extra fuel, since the Neotank has the same movement as a regular Tank. When you think that you're paying extra for mobility rather than firepower, it's a pretty economic unit. A lot of people treat them as just powerhouses because of their firepower, but really you need to use the same mindset as a Battle Copter: to quote Mangs they're like a rogue, you swoop in and take a shot and then pull back to safety before they can counterattack, stopping on a city every so often to resupply and recover the scratch damage they take on counter-attack from other units. If you're going to plop a unit down and play defense, a Medium Tank backed up by an Artillery is a much better choice, but a Neotank that keeps zoning out other units and pulling back to outrun their Medium Tank or indirect response is an incredibly deadly unit, especially in fog of war when you have forests to hide them in between ambushes.

So Sensei has infinite units forever. Sami wins the capture game by default and your HQ is constantly in danger. Kanbei units are untouchable. Doing less than 50%+ damage on Andy does nothing. And Eagle just has twice as many turns as you. Yeah, cool. This seems fine.

That's actually good that you are able to reanalyze a few things. Mainly both the CO powers of Olaf and the Neotanks. I thought Olaf was pretty good overall, but seeing him being able to damage the units on the map (acting like Kindle if those units are in the building) and then crippling their movement? Olaf is a scary CO to go against. Defenses are important, too, but if they are missing an HP or two, it's going to be problematic.

The thing with Olaf's power is that it can also snowball, pun intended. Since the benefit of snow lasts for one extra turn after you pop it, you get one turn during which you can easily outmaneuver the opponent's damaged units and get a headstart on filling the power meter back up.

Looking back, I now see some missed opportunities for Mangs to get some good engagements (even though he won this match pretty soundly): 17:00: Mangs could've probably gotten away with punishing that tank on his property hard. Sure, his opponent had more tanks to counterattack with, but Mangs had 2 infantry, a mech, and a chokepoint between some mountains to block off the counterattack, and an artillery to reinforce his tanks and punish any attempts to breakthrough the infantry, whereas the opponent only had a couple tanks in range to counterattack, and nothing else (not even infantry, and the medium tank was also barely out of range to reinforce). 41:11: Here, Mangs could've attacked the tank in the city in the southwest with a full HP tank (which would've still prevented the enemy tank from interrupting Mangs's capture of the opponent's city), followed by the 7 HP tank, which might not have necessarily been enough to destroy it, but would've at least forced it to retreat further away for repairs. (The 8 HP tank and the anti-air could've still been used to weaken the enemy's infantry in the area enough for them to be finished off in the next turn if so desired.)

The same reasoning you used for black storm not countering winter furry can also be applied to in reverse it's actually a matter of who get it first past the first one which is possible but taking planed engagements. Both powers deal damage which reduces the defense of the units you fight in the same way the only real difference is the gap being presented when you use black storm as it doesn't really do 2 damage, it's more like 5 due to the hp gap, lowered defense and the defense gained by the power use also, a really bad showcase of hawks power a slightly less good power use well will almost always stomp a good power use haphazardly

@@thanos4769 not exactly, you can choose to take or not take engagements to limit his power charge (as you get more from being attacked then attacking)to bring the timing of the two powers closer together if you wanted, even tho in this specific case you want winter fury to go first to get the max value out of black storm(healing undamaged units does nothing not that you want damaged units in the first place). Also, the hawke player could have built low repair cost units as mangs did to prep for the furry this was less about the raw usage of the powers but how they were employed when we also see that the first black storm doses almost nothing outside the global damage because they didn't have the unit composition to support the push. You can also see their Value swing when black storm goes off, that alone shows you how strong it is as he points out when it's popped. Winter furry didn't counter black wave mangs countered the hawke player

I think everyone undervalues black wave over black storm. It is not as charge-cost effective but being more readily available ESPECIALLY with how slow black storm charges is valuable in and of itself. At 30:00 if he had popped black wave in the north his md tank would have been at 6 vs mangs 7, with a 5 hp normal tank and 2 full hp vs a 7 hp tank and a 9 hp artillery. In the middle he would have a 5 hp tank and a battle copter against a 9 hp neotank, not enough to kill but with decent luck it would bring it to 5hp, taking away a lot of it's bite in exchange for a tank. Finally in the south that infantry would have died instead of holding on to the city with 1 hp. Remember that by doing 1 hp healing and damage wave can essentially create a 2 point hp difference across the map provided the Hawke player has damaged units. Its not a power to push with, its a power to swing bad engagements back into your favor.

Sturm mops the floor with Olaf. He's not any weaker in the snow. Snow just affects his movement like any other CO. It is the only thing that can tempoarily disable his ability to move through terrain at 1 cost, but it is not correct to say that snow makes him weaker compared to what snow does to other CO's.

Personally, I think his biggest mistake was when he shifted fronts in the early game, when he detached his central front for the north. It split up his effective forces way too early, which spread himself thin at the worst time to do so. If he had established his forces over a longer period of time, I think this could have been avoided, but I'm fairly certain this was what especially screwed him over.

Actually, he did the right move shifting his front way up north. There was no way he could've punched through the central front with the artillery zoning spaces out. The problem was that he shifted the front without building the right units. He built rockets which are terribly immobile units. If those rockets were medium tanks/Neotanks and he suddenly pushed north, Mang's central block of units won't be able to go North fast enough without overextending itself. Honestly, the player's push North would've been a perfect Adder play: utilize extra movement to go around strong blocks of units to push into weakened areas. If your opponent tries to respond by overextending, they get easily punished.

Granted, sending a detachment to a new front to catch one off guard is certainly a play, but there's a time and place for it, as well as consequences on top of that. I honestly hate Jesse solely because her infantry/mech is weaker than most CO's infantry/mech. Her infantry is unreliable in a push other than being meatshields for my vehicular units, if I want her opponent's infantry pushed back, I have to commit vehicular units to attack, never with my own infantry, otherewise it only always ends badly for me.

If the issue is charge time for hawkes power, then in theory, could hawke spam black wave instead of black storm? Black wave only equalizes the damage done by their powers instead of doing double the value of olafs, but it charges faster than winter fury. If black wave is spammed to keep the powers even, then hawkes fire power boost could help come out on top, no?

I love your vids Mangs but man you have to rush those mid factories asap, that took waaay too long. I would have capped airport and transport infantry right away, possibly attempt to b-copter the other middle factory and really stall the opponent. Especially with high funds. Just my take on it

I’ve never understood why people say that winter fury gets countered by COs that heal, the whole point of winter fury is to hurt troops which makes them easuer to kill / cripple them to the point of uselessness. the only scenario where winter fury gets “countered” would be if you pop it, and don’t move your troops, which is dumb. Andy is an exception due to his hyper upgrade, but hawkes 2hp heal with no fire power increase ain’t gonna help you bud, especially since its as expensive as a gold plated self driving house.

Exactly, people think that you use your SCOP and just sit there without doing anything the rest of the turn. The whole point is that you debilitate them and then you go for the easy kill, it's really not that hard to understand.
