Its humbling to hear one of the VERY GREATS admit he cannot do such a staple trick as a heelflip anymore and tbh i feel his pain (on a civilian level) i had a massive nearly waist high heelflip back in high-school. Prob a foot above the knees almost as high as i could ollie. They would flip perfectly and tucked. Then i had my first major injury. Rolled my ankle bad absolutely destroyed it. I couldnt skate for a year and a half. It kept getting re injured too. Anyways, i lost it after that. Never got it back since all these years later as with many things i had prior. It never bent the same and i was plagued with injuries since. It healed wrong and messed me up.

Brother. A sprained ankle can be so much more debilitating than a broken one in terms of reinjury rate. I did the same shit and it was years before I could do anything physical without being verrryyyyy ginger with my ankle

Kick flips tend to stick around, but the day you stop doing heels, they go away. Heel flip is king.

I feel it I can’t heel flip regular to save my life, but regular kick flips I have on lock. But vice versa, I can switch heel and it’s so comfy but I cant switch flip to save my life. I have the exact same thing nollie as well 😮‍💨

Nijah was great for sure but there was many, Sean malto, Chris Cole, Eric Koston, rob dyrdek, Paul Rodriguez, Ryan scheckler. If I may say in my opinion, the late 90’s and early 2000’s were some of the best depiction of skateboarding years ever. Now a days it’s still cool but people be doing quad kick/heel flips or triple tre flips, badass nonetheless but, those were some prime skating years for whomever was lucky to be alive to watch/be apart of it. Skate or die 🤘🤘

I think I’m around the same age as Nyjah and I remember my dad giving me shit to wear a helmet and him saying “when you can flip catch and grind a stair set like that kid can you don’t have to wear a helmet.” I’m still wearing one.

My regular heelflips are garbage. My switch heelflips are gorgeous. They look better than most of my regular tricks. For whatever reason, switch and nollie heels pop super high, I catch them 18" off the ground and slam them down bolts. Then I'll follow it up with a mushy ass kickflip or a rocket tre flip that I have to jump 4 feet forward to land on. 😂
