My favourite dice roll was in a rpg called Blades in the Dark (amazing game!) where one of my players was trying to convince someone to throw a social event to get the attention of a leader in the city. Some preamble put him in a favourable situation and then when rolling a crit kicked off an hour of hilarious and imaginative role play in an elaborate gala all meant to be a ruse to plot an assassination.

Firstly, it’s good to see you back man. It’s been a while. But secondly, my dice roll story. So the party had been stuck in the plane of water for a around a months in game time. We had multiple ships crashed, our raft destroyed, our food stolen, and any help killed . The whole month was a nightmare for us. Until we found this turtle island thing(the name is slipping me rn). Our ship ran into it, separating most of the party, me(a firbolg nature paladin) and the bard were trapped in the most remote and deadly part. But after a few days we had managed to find everyone else at the top of the volcano on the center of the island. We fought a roc to get its egg to open the portal. Bam, portals open. We’re all standing around it, portal open. And the bard says “what if I don’t wanna go. It’s nice here”, and I’m standing next to him. So me being much stronger then him, proceed to comedically shove him in with one hand. I roll a nat 20 to push him in. And I then proceed to push everyone In, as they’re afraid to go in. Thinking it may be a trap or lead us to hell or something.

Hey Alex, great job! Nice to see new videos coming out. One of my favorite dice rolls was DM'ing for my kids. We had a session where the party came back to town after defeating the bad guys and the town celebrated with a festival. During an arm wrestling contest, my daughter's female fighter was taking on a huge guy and after going back and forth with strength checks, I rolled a nat 1 for the guy. She mightily won and the players were chanting her character's name! It was awesome and my daughter felt so powerful!

My favorite die roll was in a skill check, in Pathfinder RPG. It was a "perform" for a kiss that my dhampir wizard gave to a nimph, in an attempt to negotiate and have her remove the blindness she had permanently caused in two of the party members. He rolled a natural 20, so it was a great and amazing kiss XD

Favorite die roll ever? It would have to be the long running D&D campaign I returned to. 15 years after I moved away, the campaign was still running when I moved back, and I took a guest role for the final fight. We used the same old dice we used the first time we beat this particular villain, and straight up, the first two rolls I made were both natural 20s. Hard to beat that for memorable rolls.

My most memorable die roll ever... I got one. Took place in the late 80's. A very strange sort of karmic fate type of die roll too! I was reading a book series in which a major sub-character, named Jimmy the Hand, was facing off against an assassin on a roof top. I decided to use some of the book in my next game. It just so happened that the guy I was DMing wanted to create a thief at that time. I let him, and as he was out late prowling around on a rooftop he happened across an assassin setting up to take a shot on "an obviously wealthy horseback rider." Feeling compelled to try and save this stranger (for the possibility in his mind of an unknown reward), he surprised the assassin and attacked him. A battle ensued between the would-be assassin and the thief. Please note that I did all of my die rolls in plain sight too. One thing led to another, and the assassin NPC was killed. My friend proceeded to shadow the wealthy man, only to roll a 1 on one of his checks and tumble off the rooftop, dying in the fall as he had already been wounded. Again I remind you that every roll was done in front of the both of us. But this wasn't the die roll I'm talking about... So he decided to roll up another character right after his character died. For some odd reason, he wanted to create an assassin. I let him roll it up on the spot. I even let him do the die rolls without me being present because I felt so bad about his mishap and I trusted him. When I looked over the character sheet as he finished, he had several 18's, a 15 and two 14's... I was like, WTF is this crap??? Honestly, that kinda upset me... a lot as I had trusted him. Anyway, since he was an assassin now, I created a guild for him to follow and had him on his first mission with his OP character. He was told to kill a certain nobleman that would be passing through a certain street very late at night. He prepped his gear with poison, and was just gearing up to shoot the guy from the rooftop while he was passing by when ...he was ambushed by an NPC. By this time, he very keenly was aware that I was revisiting the fight from his last character upon him... hopefully he realized that it was because his new character was a total cheat. So, a fight broke out between them and my friend and I were rolling in front of one another. My friend was getting crazy mad as he was rolling very poorly and I kept rolling high rolls to hit. The last roll the NPC thief rolled a 20 to hit his new character, and killed him on the spot. He was pretty mad that day... but I gotta say, it was all chance... and you really shouldn't cheat when creating a character - it takes away the fun of playing, ya know? Also (of course) you shouldn't try to obviously F$#% with your DM.

Favorite dice roll was a -1. Rolled 1 on the dice with a -2 cha modifier. I was trying to convince a guard that I wasn't stealing and that i just found this bag of gold and was trying to turn it to authorities. It led to my character getting arrest and eventually starting a prison riot to escape. It led to a night of hilarious circumstances and lucky dice rolls that got me out. Everyone at the table was in tears laughing at the events that transpired

My favourite dice roll determined the fate of a whole village. My party came into a small town under the tyrannous rule of a mafia gang. There were a few of these gang members situated outside of a bathhouse in the main square of the village, protecting it. Me and my party decided it would be a good idea to start a fight with the two guards after they mocked the Centaur in our party. After the fight began, my character decided to rifle up the locals to fight back against this gang and after I rolled a nat 20, the whole village ended up helping with the fight and eventually, we led a revolution against the mafia controlling the town. After days of fighting, the village was finally liberated and the party became local heroes. It was a great session.

My favourite dice roll is one of our players was very strong and was throwing a grappling hook between two trees to a ledge. They knew the fruit on the trees was explosive (I had been reading Xanth to my niece sue me :) ) and he threw it and rolled a one knocking off a ton of fruit which he then failed his reflex save. Mad he just threw it straight up again without any healing (when he was first planning the roll I let him make a roll to gauge difficulty which was easy) and rolled a 2nd one killing him, the whole group (except for him) burst into laughter and soon even he saw the funny side :) He ended getting reincarnated, only means of raising the party had into a Orc which was just epic roleplaying fun as he had been a dwarf .

My favorite die roll has to be from a campaign I was in as a player a while back. We were level 3, and had just been given our first major clue to the main quest, as we met the last scion of an ancient order of dragon knights (my DM definitely copied Colville's example starter dungeon) and had each been given a boon and sent out to the world. I was playing a wizard at the time, and kept forgetting about that damn 50 gold diamond that I needed for chromatic orb, and had probably tried to cast it 6 times by then. So, at the end of the conversation with this ancient and noble warrior my gnome wizard basically pestered him into giving me a diamond worth 50 gold pieces. The next encounter, we were set upon by a pair of owlbears, apparently under some sort of spell. One of them loomed up over our barbarian, dealing almost enough damage to knock her unconscious before she could even have a turn to rage. As my turn came up, I pulled out my orb and diamond and in excruciating detail described the process of focusing my spell energies through the diamond until the orb began to swirl with lightning energy, and then a ball of lightning with the same dimensions of the sphere seemed to double out of it, launching toward the owlbear and.... rolled a nat1. That is how I learned to describe how your attack goes after you know what you rolled.

My all time favourite roll was in a home brew game loosely based on The Fantasy Trip. A standard roll was 10 or less on 3D6. The more difficult the task the more dice were added. I wanted to make an outlandishly difficult quarter mile cross bow shot. The GM said 8D6. So shook a fist full of dice and threw them down. I got a total of 9 on 8d6. Boom.

My favorite die roll was a random chance encounter I had my players roll for using percentile dice. The result was INSANE. Lets just say there was a 3% chance a fire giant army would appear and then a 1% chance after that in which an ancient blue dragon would attack. It was an epic night of fighting, running and adventure. Holy crap.

My favorite dice roll ever has been when facing a big bad, after ten rounds, most of the party is down. I'm playing a cleric with no spells left. The barbarian is stuck as a cat, having been polymorphed against her will, and almost everyone still standing was at like three hp. My turn comes up and for lack of a better idea, I picked up the cat and threw her. And rolled a nat 20. And then a 2 on the 1d4 damage for her claws. Which, doubled, became a 4., and killed the big bad.

Favorite die roll I've had, we were in Tomb of Annihilation, in the temple at Camp Righteous where you have to be on someone's back to not trigger the trap. I was on bottom, the bard was up top. We go to roll acrobatics checks to ascend some stairs, with the ones up top assisting by using the walls for support. The bard rolls a natural 20. My tortle wizard rolls a natural 1. Perfectly balanced, thank god.

My favorite dice roll happened around 2 weeks ago, during an encounter we were fighting a large group of cultists inside a desecrated temple, the combat was not going our way, me playing a wizard saw a group of 4 enemies clustered nicely, so a fireball was of course the correct choice and as things were not going so well i decided to use my last 5th level slot to do some "real" damage, on 10 d6 i rolled 10 damage and the cultists passed the dex check, face palms and chuckles were had, we thought our DM was going to pass out from laughing.

My favorite die roll... Was in a Pathfinder game I'm in. It's now on hiatus... I'm running a chaotic evil Anti Pali, well she was. Once she turned her back on her demon overlords a pack of Succubus and Incubus came to collect her. The leader pressed a portal key against her to force her to return to their plane. Nat 20 roll! She was then surrounded by 5 more who attempted to do the same. 5 separate rolls, all above 21. I learned I have a very stubborn character that day. I like to think she is spending her hiatus drinking and wrecking bars all across the city they are in.

My favourite die roll is the time I confirmed that at least one dice set was cursed. We're fighting pirates on a boat in a storm, making occasional saves to stop from washing over. Roll to attack - natural 1 Roll to dodge - natural 1 Attack again - natural 1 Because the dice were sneaky, no more mishaps until the fight was over. Roll for loot - natural 1 Roll to stop from stumbling - natural 1 As I look at the people around my table, we are in agreement that if another roll is 1, the dice are hitting the shelves for all time. Do I successfully roll to stop from falling overboard? My new shelf ornament will tell you.

Whoo boy my favourite die roll is really a series of rolls from a boss fight our group had round a month ago, we had to go up against one of our fellow party members parents who'd turned himself more or less into a lich and sat in possession of an artifact(we gave him to save the life of a minor NPC) that gave him spell point instead of slots he was effectively a level 20 gestalt eldritch knight and wizard who could summon a horde of mooks every turn. In the end we killed him thanks to our bards counterspells and my sorceress' use of the spell telekinesis what followed was around two hours of rolling off against an abusive father from hell(and about ten rounds of dipping his head into a river of lava).

I think all of my favorite (and least favorite) dice rolls have come while playing Risk. High defensive rolls will always beat the offensive rolls. I had quite a few of these during one battle with only 30+/- defending armies while my opponent had 70+/- attacking armies. I made a successful defensive stand.

My favorite die roll is from one of my players... so it involves 3 party members: A Goliath Paladin, an Aarakocra, and a human blood hunter (lycan) against the BBEG: A pretty powerful sorceress (who was 40’ in the air) The human blood hunter got boosted off the shield of the Paladin, jumped off the shoulders of the ranger and then tried to grapple the sorceress: nat 1... he plummeted. The ranger managed to catch him, but then he tried to threaten the sorceress but ended up falling in love with the witch...

One of my players was in an area with tar pits spitting sulfuric gas. His idea was to burn away some of the gas and make it easier to navigate the terrain, but it was a thick and dense gas... so he shot a fire bolt into the area... I made him roll a d20 Incase of a natural 1 the cantrip would fizzle our... suffice to say he rolled high and there was a large explosion almost knocking out the party...

I prefer the die rolls where my players are truthful about rolling low. Generally these low-numbered rolls allow the player to explore how to overcome certain failures. Also, having low rollers really allowed me to examine how I scale difficulty for my players. My role (roll?) as the DM is to make sure my table is having fun in a catered, collaborative story-telling environment. If my Paladin keeps failing his attacks or saving throws, I will embellish and say something like: "As Rhogar wildly swings his warhammer, a sense of stillness overcomes him as Torm guides his hand true" and let him have at least one of his attacks (he's level 7 now, so he has two per attack if that was his action) if he miserably failed both. It allows me to explore how the deities in the world would react to their vassals as well as let the Paladin have some sense of accomplishment (he seriously rolls super terribly).

I was a barbarian who was trying to confront a dark wizard orc who had taken over my clan. He transformed himself into a large abysmal beast. My favorite die roll was a game my friend was DMing and we were helping this merchant get to the nearest city safely. Of course we were surrounded by bandits. I had to roll a deception to see if I could convince the bandits that they were surrounded by our bandit group. I rolled high enough and pretty much I BS-ed our way through a horde of bandits unscathed! Take note I was a mage and me pretend or bs-ing my way through situation instead of fighting was an ongoing joke lol.

My favourite dice roll came from one of my players. He all night had rolled at highest an 8 for his half-orc fighter. Finally about 3-4 hours of this and clear dissapointment and just tired of this terrible they are fighting the opposing gang boss. By this point I had thrown him a few life lines with advantage and a few "you don't even need to roll for that". They wantex this gang boss alive, the artificer and ranger had really put the hurt of this boss, the fighter askes, "Do we still want him alive?" He had 29 hp left against a level 2 party so not much fear of going down at this point. I say, "He is bleeding but his fighting stance is still firm and controlled". The fighter responds, "Okay I swing with all my strength with my warhammer.... Natural 20" "Okay roll 3d10 because you are a half-orc" And too this day I still have a picture of those d10s since every one was a natural 10. This player went from failing every roll that night to 4 consecutive max rolls in a single attack. My only words for the fighter was, "How do you want to do this?"

I was DM'ing a game anf my son a tiefling monk and his friend an elf rouge were making a duel attack on a goblin on a bridge in a cave from the Lost Mines of Phandelver starter box. To make the moment dramatic they rolled their dagger attacks simultaneously. Both rolled Nat 1's. My story version had thebfirst dagger plunk down loudly at the foot of the goblin alerting him to intruders. The other dagger cut one of the dry rotted rope supports and the goblin cut the second. Dropping my son's chracter into the path below with his friend and the goblin set off the water trap further on washing both out the cave mouth hundreds of yards away.

My favourite dice roll was in the game Call of Cthulhu. I've played a russian mafia guy in the 1920s who tried to get money from someone who died - we still dont know who was it though. Somehow I managed to get into a group of police detectives, working with them on the case. We were in the cannalisation and some weird crocodile-man were chasing us, almost killing the whole party. I had to make a luck roll to see whether my mafia mates find us or not. I just remember that I passed that with a luck factor of smth like 17/100. So basically, we were almost eaten by those croco-man when a whole group of russian mafias with tommy guns saved us all. after that, those police officers had to join the mafia or not be killed by them

The ranger in my game decided he wanted to go off in the middle of the night on his own, unprepared and already very injured (despite being warned by the other players and myself) His misadventures led him to make a survival role to to continue, which he spectacularly rolled a 1 for. I didn't want to kill the player so I reduced the damage to just incapacitate him. But he was alone, in the badlands, and he told no one where he was going. The other players woke up, and decided that based on his characters habit of disappearing this was normal, and so they shouldn't look for him. He eventually died of exposure, and the player was more than a little upset, then this exchange happened: Ranger player: "I understand why you guys would leave me, but how can I die from just ONE roll!" Other player before I had a chance to say anything: "Dude, you failed a survival check, that means you failed to survive"

Technically not entering, because reasons. But I figured I'd share anyway. Might have already shared this in the discord, I don't know. Anyway, I have a player that always rolls really bad. And I mean really bad. We'll use his characters name, Lawrence. We had 2 evil PC's in the party, and one was chaotic. So they decided to attack his character in the middle of a combat with gargoyles. They missed due to a poor roll or something, I don't remember... but then Lawrence just turned around and attacked them back. Natural 20 on his Eldritch Blast, immediately knocked the other player out. One of his only rolls over 10 that session, and I think only one of two natural 20's he's ever gotten.

I have DMed special horror games for Halloween where a decent potion of the game was in very dim and even complete darkness, I used app on my phone to roll the dice rolls with the players just responding. Having these would be fun as I could play the game as is and still let them roll the dice :) But I get your point it is a gimmick but then most sets of dice are bought purely for cosmetic reasons so why not glow in the dark.

Rolled a 32 on my bard to get a discount from a vendor, ended getting a rare item for free.
