I’ve been thinking about the brute for a bit recently as it was in UA around when I first got into the game and didn’t fully get what was and wasn’t published content. I understand you don’t post here anymore and probably will not see this but it’s nice to see a video covering the subclass around the time of its release, thanks for this glimpse into the past!

I’m currently playing 3 different Dhampir blood clerics in 3 different games (one homebrew campaign and two games of adventurer’s guild, a customised less restrictive adventurer’s league), having tons of fun playing them all. One worships Asmodeus, one worships the raven queen, another worships Canchelsis the vampire god from Spelljammer. They’re all lawful neutral to lawful evil so they’re still willing to do good things but they’re not necessarily good people, only doing those good thing if they and their gods can benefit.

I havent played or DMed a single dnd game yet, but seems to me I could improve upon the spell cards. I've gotten a hold of them all in PDF form and I might make it visible at a glance what class of spell it is and what level. And I could add some graphics to represent the spell on the card. I am just so surprised at how meh the product is? But what's the point I hardly know anyone who would play

If for whatever reason +4 to saving throws ain't enough, a Diamond Soul Monk with two levels into War Magic has Proficiency AND a reaction for a +4 to all saving throws. A total of +9, +10 at later levels, with a reroll option for 1 ki that doesn't interfere with your Reaction at all.

Ranger/ Bloodhunter order of the lycan vampire hunter

Brute Crossbow fighter is quite cool, as Brute Force is added to ranged attacks too. Heavy crossbow, crossbow expert feat some other shenigans etc Also with that extra fighting style you could take both Archery and Close Quarters Shooter, which combined gives you +3 to attack rolls on ranged attacks, plus no disadvantage while shooting within 5 feet, which you also get from crossbow expert and ignore half and 3/4 cover within 30 feet. You could also build throwing weapon brute with Archery and Thrown weapon fighting, getting both +2 attack rolls and damage.

Just got my half orc blood hunter to level 7. Pretty darn strong.

Too bad this sub class didn´t made the cut. It does sound interesting.

Bought a wormwood dice tower for a friend. He loved it, but Holy hell was it pricey. Metal dice are like ninja caltrops, especially the D4. Cool, but deadly.

I've heard a lot of people say that the reckless casting has nothing to do with invention and so here's how it does. the weave is the pure unchanged source of all magic in dnd and when you cast a spell you're using a tested formula of verbal somatic and/or material components to draw on the weave and turn it's raw energy into a spell that effects things. so reckless casting is pretty much drawing on the weave and then coming up with brand new verbal and somatic components on the fly creating a new never before seen magical effect so i agree it's not really inventing it's more like tinkering but i'm sure when they release this subclass in full they'll fix that.

A real tricky class to play. I've seen it 3 times with people I've played. I played a Ghostslayer and took 0 damage from anyone, but myself all game. My friends have been Profane Souls each.

Thanks for the video! I'm fascinated by the story and roleplay components of this class, but was having trouble wrapping my head around what makes them fun and cool in actual gameplay. The girl I have in mind is 15 and as soon as I read that there tend to be magic casters who seek these rare runechildren, I could see my DM having so much fun with this (I really love an in-depth character so he tends to use my background to create the main plot and build the others into it in a very active way, just since they take a little longer to wrap their heads around their characters). My current character is 31 with a dark rogue assassin backstory, and DM and I have talked a lot about me playing a less repressed, younger character with some magic prowess in the next campaign. As soon as we found this class, we started brainstorming a party of this girl and her protectors where she kind of comes into her own and becomes just as powerful as a defense and buffer for them. Anyway, I've listened to podcasts with druids and wizards so I was looking at those classes until I found the runechild, and this video really helped me understand Sorcerer a lot better, so thank you! I'm less nervous to tackle it now.

My character is a natural borne lycanthrope from a diety cursed father and a blood hunter- lycan order mother. Pretty excited of what our DM would do.

Imagine being some sick weak wizard laughing at a party of adventurers as you cast Invulnerability, only for a monk to hit you three times take no damage then get hit by a 8th level inflict wounds by the cleric.

Okay...hear me out. Juggernaut Barbarian, Minotaur with the Crusher feat! I call it Ragdoll Simulator! 😂

Look at the class features after you've cast Tensor's transformation on a wizard with the feat: Resilient - Dexterity.

so I was reading in the blood magic 5e book and came across a half spawn subrace which makes your character half vampire a Blade type origin, so that got me thinking what if instead of half human like the subrace suggests what if I made it half Longtooth shifter? cross class a sorceror with a vampiric bloodline sorcerous origin, with a blood hunter with the order of the lycan to make a true Hybrid, think I would get more freedom with my Rites and maledicts? Using the Vampiric regeneration of the vampire side to stave off losing control of my character? using my classes to enhance the racial bonuses of my character?

I wonder how this could work in RP for someone who was born with Lycanthropy as opposed to being infected through the rite. Maybe a natural born lycan seeks out the order to help him overcome and control his own natural abilities.

I love the level 14 for the duck. It’s less of fear from actual being scared of your might. It’s more they are scared in a way that they think you lost your marbles

Take this subclass. Take mages initiate, take cleric spare of the dying and cure wounds. Be a soft hearted kind healer while punching those pretentious patients who do not listen to you to oblivion.

I have made a goblin that is a Mutant BloodHunter and an Alchemist Artificer legit one of the most fun characters I’ve ever made

I played a War Wizard once, and I'm right there with you on Power Surge. I multi-classed into fighter, so I was able to do the +2 to AC pretty frequently without neutering myself the next round. It worked, but I think honestly you'd be better off spending a spell slot to cast shield. The +4 to a saving throw is really nice, and it can happen a lot out of combat. And Power Surge? I don't think it'd be worth it if the damage were equal to your wizard level. Maybe if it were double or something. There's no reason not to just cast Fireball or literally any other spell that does damage.

Wonder if anyone here might have a bit of advice. I’m likely going to be running Curse of Strahd soon and one of my players had expressed some interest in playing a blood cleric (we’re all big CR fans) how would people rule on the blood clerics abilities working on undead? I have no personal experience with them yet and given how prevalent undead are in that setting I wouldn’t want them feeling less useful when facing vampire spawn, Strahd himself etc
