A close look at the Haxtec metal dice and glow-in-the-dark metal dice by running them through wringer. How well do they stack? How bright do they glow? What happens when you shoot one at a watermelon? We'll answer these questions and more.
This calls for a montage.

Update: Haxtec contacted me about an issue that recently popped up. So some counterfeiter is trying to sell knock-off Haxtec dice on Amazon. Haxtec is trying to stop this, but for anyone trying to get a set, double check that the listing says "Sold by Haxtec and Fulfilled by Amazon" or "Sold by and Fulfilled by Haxtec." If it says, "Sold by and Fulfilled by Lviong," or "Sold by Lviong and Fulfilled by Amazon," or anything else, that is not Haxtec. Since the counterfeiters are underselling Haxtec, Amazon automatically links to the lowest seller, even if you follow a correct sales link to Amazon. Weird, I know. But I don't want anyone getting ripped off by an inferior knock-off.

Nicely done, as always. I actually prefer dice that can't be stacked and I think that's a plus. When those stacks come crashing down, which they inevitably do, it's distracting as hell for everyone at the table.
@SSkorkowsky
@SSkorkowsky 6 жыл бұрын
Then you'll love the pink glow dice. They HATE being stacked. I was more than a little surprised the Paladins fell before the Q-Workshop. I blame that on my stacking (I did those last and was a bit tired after repeatedly trying to get the Haxtecs to stack) because the Paladins have flat faces and sharp edges. They had the clear advantage.

I was looking up metal dice reviews, so that I could show my mother, who lives with me, the difference between the plastic ones I have and the metal ones a few people have, over on my place's main computer in our living room, and clicked on your video. And of course, Mr. Noir Guy starts talking about "Dice Bags", she had to laugh, because I also had my own "dice bag" out, by sheer coincidence mind you as I hadn't seen the video before, and even I had to chuckle. My "Dice Bag" is Regal Apple Green, which tastes pretty good with cranberry-apple juice.

Beauty, man! Just beauty! I have to say, though, in 37 years of gaming, I've never owned a Crown bag... My 'weapon holster' for the last decade is a crocheted and felted dice bag that my wife created for me! It holds about 12 Chessex plastic cases.

Truth be told, I've never used one either. I used to use a hideous orange bag that came from an early 90's garage sale. Then I upgraded to a little wooden chest that was also long enough to hold pencils and my wet-erase markers.

I feel like Kraken does the best in terms of true "D&D" dice sets with their larger 12 piece sets. 2D20's, 4D6's, and even a "D2" that's basically just a coin made out of the same materials as your dice set. That, and they sell a set that's made to look like blood drops are suspended in the dice, and they're GORGEOUS!

I have one complaint about this review, and it's that the "speed test" should actually favor the dice that stop the quickest. The largest contributing factor to biased dice is the fact that dice with smoothed edges from being run through a rock tumbler are too egg shaped. This skews their center of gravity and causes them to be biased to roll certain numbers over others. Dice with rounded edges roll around more, which feels "more random" but actually just gives the dice more chances to tend toward their biased and skewed center of gravity. Dice with sharper edges roll around less and stop quicker, which means that their results are more random because they're less effected by any unevenness in the die.

I don't know if I have a legit concern here, but I'm going to throw it out for feedback. Regarding metal d20s, since the opposite sides always add up to 21 (or should, if they are properly configured), the metal d20 with the beveled edges and the raised numbers is going to be slightly heavier on the sides with higher numbers, and the metal d20 with simply engraved numbers are going to be slightly heavier on the sides with lower numbers. This makes for an ever-so-slight imbalance, but an imbalance nevertheless. So over a large number of rolls, we can expect more higher rolls from the die with engraved numbers, and more lower rolls from the die with beveled edges and raised numbers. Just sayin'.

I have a set of metal dice, can't remember who from, but I never game with them. The only thing I ever do is roll them through my hands to feel the weight of them and show them off to friends. Should you get a set of metal dice? Sure, if you've got the spare cash, they're really neat. Should you buy them as your only set of dice? No, get a set from Chessex or Easy Roller or any of the other plastic dice companies, hell, get any of the above's big bag o' dice so you've got a bunch of them. Crown Royal bags are big, they can hold a lot of dice.

Good science. The trick with rounded corners is the bias the mass-tumbling (the way they smooth the edges in a vibrating vat of liquid and abrasive stones) is random, and can impact the way they roll. - - - I wish I recalled the channel that did the testing (this one maybe?) but you can float plastic dice in water saturated with salt, and check to see if they have an off-center center of mass as well (from the injection molding). The same channel also exhaustively rolled the dice to get large sample sets of data to see if there was a roll bias. - - - LOOOOONG story short, great video, just strolling through your back catalog tonight. - - - Oh! My original point I never got to! Who buys dice as sets anymore? I thought everyone went to a game store and felt the dice, test rolling them, and picking complementary colors for the various dice?

You hit upon my pet peeve with polyhedron dice sets for D&D. You roll with advantage or disadvantage a lot, so why not include an extra d20? Instead these sets come with an extra d10 for rolling percentages. I never use the extra d10. I wish these standard sets came with an extra d20 instead of an extra d10. Anyway, it was a very entertaining video! P.S. My apologies for the late comment on an older video. I found your channel last summer while looking for info on Traveller. I love your series on that. And then stuck around for your GM tips and other game reviews. I just discovered this older video in your playlist.

Some of the bigger companies should defiantly make sets designed not only for systems but for classes. an extra d6 for rouges maybe some d4s for wizards and clerics. again no big if individual dice are sold. Also for table top war games where you might need a larger set of the same style of dice

Joined with? He's Vice President of Black Pharaoh Lodge #836. He could have gone for President some time ago, but he says that's just too much responsibility and the Lodge President has to deal with all the drama between members (cultists can be such drama queens). You would not believe how much squabbling goes into who stands where around the sacrificial altar. To the outsider, it looks like a bunch of sketchy people in robes chanting in a circle. In reality, that's hours of planning and meetings and placement charts in order to prevent cultist whining (no one wants to stand next to Stinky Gary). Also, Jack is the embodiment of all NPCs. I'd say that gives him a thousand faces.

I disagree with the double d20 per set. You could say you need two of d8s, d10s for two attacks with the same weapon... I always get two sets, because you always need 2x of a dice. The only thing they should add is extra d6 - magic missile, fireball... a lot of AoE spells use a lot of d6
