Hay 2023. Rowing up with the Massey 390T and Lely Rotunde rake.

My first outing into the hay fields this year to watch a lovely MF 390T rowing up the crop in with a Lely Rotunde 510CD raking machine. A great combination similar to a haybob but with a wider width adjustment that makes a fine job of gathering the crop in front of the following baler which although I unfortunately i missed out on this time will hopefully catch up with soon. Filmed in Southern Scotland June 2023.

Great video David, we have the very same set up here in Co Antrim our 390t stays on the rake all summer. Only thing about our one is that the mounting brackets for the tines are weak and break off. We thread a rope through each time to stop them flying off and ending up in the baler. Very nice 390t.😊

Now that’s a very good idea, often the simplest ones are often the best. I don’t blame you for keeping the 390T on the rake, perfect sized tractor for that job being manoeuvrable and with enough weight to handle a rake. It is a nice 390T, can’t recall seeing a better one. Cheers Steve. Yeh 20 years back there were lots of 390Ts about, these days they’re definitely thinner on the ground. Crying out for rain here too (think it’s on it’s way though), hardly any growth for the 2nd cut, some haven’t even started 1st cut yet as of today! Cheers, David

Great video David I’m not a Massey man but that 390 is immaculate a credit to its owner very well kept I never seen a rake like that very unusual with the skirts on it what are they for not much hay made here beside me it’s all arable

Thanks H. Yes that 390 is pristine as are it’s owners other Masseys. It’s a really great rake, obviously designed as a modern day haybob but with a wider setting. I think the skirts are to help the crop from both getting bruised and wrapping itself around the rotors. Sadly there’s not as much hay made round here now but I’ve only just got back from filming a lovely pair of International/ Case-IH baling small bales on a fell farm in beautiful surroundings that I hope to post soon. It’s a great machine Mick and a fine alternative to a single or even twin rotor rake. Everyone that I know who owns a Rotunde speaks highly of them. Thanks for another watch and comment Mick, cheers David

Thanks David. When we had a little holding in Galloway I used to borrow a 390T for road work as my wee 135 wasn't really road legal (no indicators). Brilliant machine.

It always felt to me that when we made hay summer had definitely arrived! Been out in the fells watching hay getting baled tonight, was it small traditional bales you made David?
