This is ridiculous. This pig should have been seen by someone qualified. I don’t know why you think you are qualified to do this. That poor pig would have been in immense pain by you pulling on it’s infected eye like that. I’ve watched a few of your videos and you don’t even have the right tools for any of the DIY jobs you do.

That is the largest piece of hay I’ve ever seen in a Guinea pigs eye. I’m sure that being removed from the eye must feel so much better. Great job Saskia!

When he kept his eye closed after you took it out, you can see his relief! He can finally close his eye comfortably. Poor guy! I'm glad you got it out!

Of course I’ve said it many times but yet again you educate the public so something seemingly so small but would cause any living creature immense torture. You are truly the best version of Mother Teresa for piggies and their owners. I can’t even fathom the automatic relief that baby had. What an amazing piggy! I know Saskia always has such a calming and loving effect on piggies of all kinds but this lil dude was so calm and totally fine with everything Saskia did - no trying to run away or flinching or anything. Just sat there and was like, okay lady I am here.

Thanks to you, I thought of hay poke here. A few months ago one of my pig’s eye started to look a little weird. So I examined her & got it out! Used terrymicin for 7 days after. She was fine & happy.

Just had this happen to my guinea pig today, never had it happen before but thanks to these videos I knew what it was (after some extra research as well). Piggy is doing a-ok just some eye drops for a few days. Know this piggy is in good hands

OMG you really help him so much when I'm seeing guinea pig sick it remindes me of my guinea pig died from diarrhea we don't know what to do it's already late when we found out that my guinea pig has diarrhea and after that my guinea pig died I can't still forget what happened and I'm still wishing that my guinea pig is still with me

One of my former guinea pigs had a talent to get hay stuck in her eye at least once a month. The eyelids were swelling and I also had to pull the hay out.

I know when my piggy had hay stuck inside her eye. She closed it, it was swollen over night! I managed to take it out in the morning. It was huge. After that we drove to the doc to get her the right treatment. Still checking the eyes of my cuti now every day since then. 😄

I think Saskia uses a saline wash and human eyedrops. The antibiotic she used is teramycin.

So if you look really closely when you go to take the hay out the reason why there's that little ball inside the eye is because of hay was wrapped around that it was wrapped around that little piece of the exit skin that's sticking out hopefully it'll go down

Been there, one of mine had a grass seed stuck in there. We couldn't see it and the local rescue couldn't see it either. A vet finally found it and I swear it was an inch long. Where does it go??? Amazing how the eyes heal afterwards though. After 3 days of antibiotic drops she was looking way better.

Anything bad happen if they aren’t removed? I have one of those bags you hang off the side of the cage that you fill with grass and they feed from. Sometimes i thing of the grass falling over them and getting in their eyes

They can lose eyesight I believe if it gets infected or badly scratched repeatedly.

Hello, My daughter has injuried our young guinea pig in the mouth. The poor little guy has inflated twice his volume during the night. In the morning we've brough him to the vet. The vet tried to save him but it was not successfull and our loved piggy had to be euthanized. My question is : can the guinea pig transform into a giant edema after an injury and infection ?

I have a eye problem with my daughter's guinea pig they have given us eyedrops but it seems like he doesn't even close the eye when I blow on it it has been a little more than two weeks since we started the eye drops and while the cloudiness has cleared up I'm worried that the eye is not going to get better should I check to see if there is a piece of hay in his as well?.... the vet just said that it was probably a little bit of a poke but sometimes the cloudiness comes back can you recommend me either something to say to my vet or something I can do myself to help our poor little guinea pig?...thanks for you work.

He probably didn't close his eye all the way because of the shape and size of the piece of hay. It might have hurt too much to close. And then he might have closed his eye because it was dry from holding it open for so long. This is why I could never be a vet, props to you for having that kind of courage.

The piece of hay worked itself right into the tissue of the eye. It works on the same principle as a thorn or splinter in our skin. Mod Karalee
