I grew up around farm animals so gross stuff is nothing new. It took less than 45 min to clean all 6. Only 1 had a lot in it. They all had something in there, though. By the 6th pig I had the holding technique down. Next time should go a lot faster. My oldest is 5 and he screamed at me for holding him immobile. He was mad. He gave me the worst stink eye through the whole process but was all cuddles once he was clean. They all seem happier and more calm. Maybe they were processing the trauma. It was a first for all of us. Should it be a part of the monthly health check routine?

I have learned so much from watching you Saskia! Our piggie Cupid is 1y 3m, a couple months ago he started losing fur in patches... And he had "mange" looking skin underneath... I gave him a hair cut around the affected area and gave him a good "cleaning". His ears, pocket, weenie and oil gland. I found a piece of wax in his ear that looked like the one Shrek pulled out of his ear at the dinner table for a candle!! Seriously it was huge, I was scared I was pulling out his brain! Lol jk. But i ended up putting anti-fungal and antibiotic ointment on him for several days and then stopped. After a couple days we noticed the akin was pink and black again. (He's white and black). And after a couple weeks the hair was growing back. Now you could never tell he had any ailments! Thank you for your awesome content!!!

I am so glad I found you! I took in 6 guinea pigs that were dumped out at a nearby pond in the freezing weather. All females were pregnant and now I’m up to 18 . I couldn’t stand the thought leaving them scared and cold. I knew nothing about piggies. I absolutely adore them!!!!! I have a huge family now! I had someone dump one at my door. I have called all the rescue facilities in my neighborhood, Petsmart and Petco no longer take them, at least within several hundred mile radius. That being said-I decided to simply learn what I can and love them. I have re homes a few to great homes!!! My only concern is vet cost. Luckily I have not needed one but I take absolute phenomenal care of them. I made a nursery for all the pregnant piggies. I separated the males but kept in the same area. I had it nice and quiet with ambience lighting and a fan going for calming-not on them but pointed away, just for noise. I had maternity pillows, and fleece everywhere to keep them comfy. Now I have a lot of little rug rats running around so it’s a very busy nursery! Lol I have made them huge tunnels, lots of play space and a separate area to eat. They get a few hours outside when it’s really nice to graze... I make 100 percent sure they are in the shade and covered from any threats. I absolutely love them! I rescue dogs but this has been a whole new experience... As I mentioned health care such as vet cost is my main concern now. I had no idea they were pregnant when I rescued them, however I would have anyway. That’s just how I am. Any advice on clinics that will help people who rescue?
@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue5 жыл бұрын
For some reason I only just now see you reply. First of all thank you so much for rescuing those kids. We often have to pay full rate at vet clinics and sometimes we get a small discount like % or 10% Just ask if it is possible to get a discount. If the clinic is rescue minded you may just get one. Good luck!!

@mszoomy6 жыл бұрын
Saskia, what is the purpose of the "pocket"? I've seen boars drag their junk on the ground, I assumed they were marking, leaving their scent as boy mammals do in most species. But now I wonder if they're doing it because their sack is irritating them. Will a warm sit bath help as well, just let them soak their bums for 10-15 minutes or so? I don't have boys but I think I might get one in the future.
@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue6 жыл бұрын
There is no scientific answer of what the pocket is for, however I am pretty sure it has something to do with scent and marking. If it is dry and hard then a water soak will not take care of it. It is an almost gum like substance that does not dissolve in water so a generous application of olive or mineral oil will do the trick better.

You squeezed his poor little weiner and it hurt me! lol Haha😂😂😂. great Work! So does that happen to Guinea pigs in the wild too? Or more of a pet guinea pig issue?

Your videos are so helpful. Been watching you and a few others for a few weeks now as I prepared to get my piggies. Found some in need of a new home. Went and picked them up last night. Critter nations in a hotel room with so many boys in each cage. Poor dears lacking space. 4 came home with me.
