In a word: FABULOUS! Klemperer was the supreme conductor of Haydn, yes, better even than Szell, Walter, or Bernstein, and he was fortunate to have the magnificent Philharmonia Orchestra at his disposal.

such matters of taste are very personel. This one is beautiful, but so is Szell and Walter and don't degrade someone elses taste.....

@@peterzenker5980 Where did I call out someone else's personal taste? I only gave MY opinion, reflective of MY taste; anyone else is free to state their personal preference as well. I cited three of the best Haydn conductors I ever experienced: George Szell, Bruno Walter, and Leonard Bernstein, i.e., I gave them compliments, and anyone who prefers them over Klemperer will get no argument from me! I just happen to prefer Klemperer. P.S. You might consider not being the self-ordained preacher to other people and making them wrong; look to yourself.

@@sarahjones-jf4pr Bernstein is one of my favourites and sure he is a great Haydn conductor as well.I have several Haydn recordings by him. Last time I heard older recordings by Mogens Wöldike, a Danish conductor. Very committed,intense Haydn readings as well. I can listen to Klemperer, Walter, Bernstein, Szell Haydn interpretation all of time. It was the era of the great conductors....lets enjoy them and be greatfull

The broad tempi and large orchestral forces here are light-years away from historically-informed approaches. I greatly prefer this style. Hoomeyow!!
