"He made a big mistake" may be the biggest understatement ever! I've always wondered how his career would've turned out if he had Sir Alex on his side - thru thick and thin. Had he signed and stuck around, just imagine Cantona, Gazza, Giggs, and Kanchelskis, with Robson, Keane, Bruce and Irwin having his back - plus all the other guys I've not mentioned, on the same team, then the class of 92 coming thru the ranks. Gazza needed a strong leader and theres no better than S.A.F. It's a shame for Sir Alex, for Gazza, for Man Utd and for all of us. Now, instead of being a club legend (any club), I'm just happy when i hear that he's still alive. It's tragic - as is so often the way with genius.

It also claims that after the sixth turn down is when Fergie went and got Cantona...a player who could have been playing at Wednesday with Hirst if Trevor Francis hadn't done the whole "but can he play on grass" nonsense. If Cantona had been at Hillsborough in 91/92 then Wednesday may have won the league instead of Leeds (we came third behind Man U), and Wednesday might have gone on to dominate the 90s instead of Man U. If only.

Spurs fan over 40 years. We've had some incredible players over the years, gazza is an icon, that free kick alone v the scum in fa cup semi final makes him an all time spurs legend, but i have to agree with alex, going to man utd instead of being in London, gazza would have gone on to better things, and wouldve had a better career, and life. Steve mcmanaman is the only player even remotely close to gazza, look what he achieved, much more dedicated
