Well i have this trailer for one year now, we left the east coast of Canada and drove down to Mexico, we have been in Mexico for 8 months now, i have a V6 dogve Ram 1500 outdooorsman , i'm with my wife and my son, he is almost 2 years old now, we ha ve been trveling for almost a year now with this trailer, the frame is strong, i like it, for Mexico road thats a good trailer, not to heavy on the pickup to, you dont want anything bigger here in Mexico, the fridge for sure is too small, the door of the cabinet need a lock, otherwise it's a mess, thats right the water tank are a issue you cant be offroad very long, 2-3 days max, you need to get empty and fill up the water tank, the litle televison beside the sink is taking to much space, i install a bigger one up behind the banket, the AC and heat arent plug on a numerical thermostat , so its on or off for the AC and the heater its a litle thermostat not very acurate, when you look behing the kitchen sink you can see that the way they cut wheel protector is very gross, and you can see it under the banket, so you need to add urethane, the cover under the trailer is pretty cheap too, perfect for insect like ants to comme in and join you for the night, seriously this should have been done with a better material, i add 2 other solar panel so i have 500 watt total off grid, very cool when you travel you can put your frig on electric, i add a other battery, and a inverter of 4500 watt, cause there is no inverter , there is a converter but there is no inverter, well the suspension on the wheel is very good, overall its a good minimalist trailer, but the finition of it is not very as glamoor as i tot it would be, the silicone as been done grossely, well but guess what i like this trailer !

No bathroom sink doesn't thrill me but I actually prefer just to not have it vs shoe horning in one of those crappy shower corner plastic sinks. Do not like the lack of a stove hood especially on a premium trailer. Love the counter space. As for the fridge I think I would want to see it replaced with something like a nova kool R5810. It's still an under counter sized fridge but it uses a dc compressor so it has more interior space (5.8 cubic feet). I'm also a big fan in general of convection microwaves in rv's and especially in a smaller trailer where the oven means giving up so much of your storage space. This kitchen would be much worse off if it didn't have that storage space under the cooktop.
@karenpollen870

I've not personally been thru the OBX in great detail. I think they have a killer look and the marketing is like "HOLY COW YOU'RE GONNA TAKE THIS SUCKER WAY OFF GRID BROTHER" which feels a bit like over selling it. I think the biggest difference is the 7ft vs 8ft body size. Beyond that they each snipe the other in a few little ways

After watching this I love the fact they put a smaller fridge in this unit!! Im still planing to buy the ember 170mbh. I could see this unit working well for someone with limited tow vehicle capacity and maybe they were considering an R-Pod, but would like something a little more upscale. Plenty of sleeping and eating space for a small group of people. Depending on how much you use the inside kitchen, the fact it doesn't have any drawers may be an issue. Without adding some sort of drawer/storage I don't know what you would do with eating and cooking utensils. I was actually totally surprised when you showed the sewage tank blade valves being located inside the heated enclosed area. I don't know how many manufacturers go to the trouble of having a heated/enclosed underbelly and then leave the blade valves out in the weather..............nice move on Winnebago's part. And the fact it is "Toilet TV Certified" makes all the difference! This way you don't miss a minute of the action of your favorite show!

I think the fridge size is fine for a small trailer as in my mind storage > fridge space. By keeping beverages in a cooler you free up a lot of space in the fridge for food and the like. Also with the plugin coolers/freezers you have these days they really become a second fridge that you can place wherever it is convenient. I don't like the lack of a vent over the range. Lance has been leaving it out on their 2022 models as well. I don't see how you can call yourself a premium RV product when you don't have basic features that are in entry level brands that sell for much less. If nothing else then make them an option but it really seems like nickel and dime'ing trying to cut a couple of hundred bucks in these higher priced trailers.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd Жыл бұрын
That surprises me on a Lance model.. I know they use a lot of bigger ceiling vent fans. I wonder if they're thinking the one offsets the other?
@oldengineer1519
@oldengineer1519 Жыл бұрын
@@JoshtheRVNerd I think that was the idea based on a conversation I had with Lance last month. As I told them that might be ok in an entry level camper but not one that is in the $60K - $70K range. A range vent will have a filter and doesn't suck the cooking stuff through the trailer where relying upon a ceiling vent will cause it to potentially build up grease and pull all of the cooking odors through the trailer. I don't know if they will change this or not but I got the impression removing the vent was not a popular idea with a number of folks at the company. It's part of the reason we are taking our time on replacing the old trailer as it appears to me the manufacturers are kind of going through some changes and not completely sure of where they want to go with designs and features.

I like the non-coffin bunks. Someone could actually sit on the edge and lie down like they're real beds. I also like the decor colors. I'm starting to really hate the black and white "farmhouse" decor so it's a relief to see other colors now. I wish there was room for a sink in the bathroom. I swear I've seen folding sinks in wet baths somewhere. If we owned this one we'd have to use the bunks for sleeping and replace that bed with a sofa. Our days of climbing over each other in the middle of the night are long gone. The fridge might hold what we need for a weekend trip but the freezer would be too small. I guess it's not really for us as much as I like some of the features.

The bottom bunk slats could be covered like the Geo pro to look finished. The support as it is now is less than 250 lbs. One roll by a 250 lbs person and you will hear the crack lol.

For me personally that fridge doesn’t work. Neither does a full size only bed work. Would not want this camper. Only for small people with small kids that like to carry an expensive cooler too.

We had an 1800bh, same floorplan except 1' longer with double axle. Gives you 3 burner cooktop, larger 12v fridge (or optional 2 way), and ducted a/c with not much more weight. I think getting rid of the range hood (2021 and prior had them) was a mistake and for someone who has small kids, no light switches in the bathroom was not ideal.

Disappointed they switched to Westlakes from made in the USA Goodyears. BOO!!!!! And they forgot to remove the Goodyear sticker so hopefully this is just a one-off.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd Жыл бұрын
Clarification: They did not switch from Goodyears to Westlakes. They use Goodyears on all other models _with the exception of this one_ To go to a goodyear tire on this model they'd have to change hubs which would change axles which would change the chassis.. kneebone to legbone It would significantly ding the cost on this one and even the weight just for a different tire. So they made the call to keep westlakes on this one and use goodyears on everything else

I would rather have a bigger refrigerator so I would move the sink and cook top down and put the refrigerator where the pantry cabinet is. I would alleviate the TV and just keep the plugs for it so you can just sit one on the counter if you wanna watch tv on a rainy day. The last thing I would want would be one of the wet sinks that you see in the showers so you have a place to wash your hands and brush your teeth instead of having to do it in the kitchen.

I don’t like: the lack of a bathroom sink. And not a fan of the ‘D’ top dinette table. When it’s down, it’s a knee/shin-whacker, even up, it’s unnecessarily big. That being said this unit has a lot going for it, except the CCC, given there are no slides. If there’s no increasing the CCC, I wish the bathroom was full-width at the back, w/a sink, and in lieu of bunks, make the leftover bit (after expanding the loo) could be made into a desk area. It’s just me & my husband. We have no need of bunks, but to have an office spot for him (in case he was to take this to an accident scene and file reports get statements, make/take calls out of the weather…) would be excellent. And way more comfy than trying to office out of his truck when necessary. But again, I love this quality compact Minnie.

I am chuckling because people commenting are griping about the ‘60’s and ‘70’s layout. But I think that is what I like about this unit. A no nonsense layout that is actually usable and gives reasonable comfort. I do not get the trend where everyone wants a 20 cubic foot full height refer in a small camper/travel trailer. The convection microwave is a great compromise for removing the oven and adding a pantry space. I appreciate the upgraded suspension and the use if regular steps, and how the sewer piping is tucked up out of the way giving the trailer a clean undercarriage. What that does is give you a cleaner higher running ground clearance. That in turn allows the trailer box to sit lower while maintaining said ground clearance, thus lowering overall height, reducing step in height, allowing for a smaller cleaner entry stair setup. It also lowers roof height for overall clearance. And, with the lower overall height, your reducing the trailer poking up into the wind frontal area by upwards of 7 square feet, which significantly reduces the additional continuous road horsepower absorption and its increased fuel cost to travel the same distance at higher speeds. I also like the overall fitment of a generally higher grade of materials on the inside. Where that feature really shines is after the sale and the camper has been getting some regular use, the wear and tear and degradation of the cabinetry, furnishings and sheathing holds up much better and does not show its “cheap” and shoddy workmanship. I am glad you pointed out that this is not a value or low entry price point trailer, but it’s a mid grade trailer and it does cost a bit more going in.

In my opinion, cargo capacity is a joke and it’s going to be a challenge for a family not to overload it (especially with all that storage available + hitch receiver in the back). We used to own 2018 1700bh and its low cargo capacity was a HUGE issue for us. After 2 camping seasons we traded it for 2020 1800bh with 3.3K lbs cargo capacity. That made a huge difference. Sadly, Winnebago stopped producing them with such high cargo capacity starting with 2021 models 🙁. Other than that this 1700bh is awesome. Unfortunately, in my experience people rarely understand the importance of cargo capacity number and they don’t pay enough attention to it.

UJ… help me understand the point of putting snow tires on trailers. The point of snow tires is that they give you traction on snow on a drive tire. Trailer axles are not drive axles. I don’t see the point. Is it strictly an esthetic? A marketing scheme?

@Donald Bailey .. They're more of a tougher tire for like going down dirt roads people that do a lot of boondocking. Unlike the normal highway tires with these you have a less chance of getting a flat if you're going down rocky roads or dirt roads.

Frankly Donald.. I think a great deal of it is the "Look factor" It gives a "Beefy" look to an RV You'll often find them on RVs MFGs call "off road" or I call "off pavement" If you plan to do some light off-pavement towing, then they're a little more resilient to things like punctures from stones Keep the questions coming my guy!
