It is not lost on me that the CDU/CSU, Grüne, and other political parties in Germany are also to blame for the issues present in the country. I believe the CDU and Grüne are doing an amazing job of handing the election to the AFD. Merz is a horrible choice as Kanzlerkandidat, and to see this party be actively responsible for the issues in the country and then trying to offer solutions for the problems they created is similar to Trump "un-banning" Tiktok when he was the one that wanted Tiktok banned. To see the CDU not many days/weeks ago say they would not/never work with the AFD to then eat their foot and say they are willing to work with them shows how spineless these people are. Doing all of these things and then saying it is scary to see a "right" slide is anything but intelligent, in my opinion.... The AFD is one of the only "current" political parties that has almost doubled in percentage control of votes, and that means a wonderful government that wants similar policies to that of the USA will come into power or hold a great deal of power. Vote wisely.

Hallo. Ich verfolge auf KZbin was seit Trumps Amtsantritt passiert und teile auch manche Videos. Ich habe große Sorge was Deutschlands kommende Wahl betrifft. Ich hoffe, die Bildung der Wähler ist ausreichend im Zweifelsfall irgendwas außer der AFD zu wählen. Ich schätze die Deutschen sehr und kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass sie so dumm sind, dass sie sich von einem verrückten Amerikaner oder, wie ich heute gehört habe, von First Lady Musk führen lassen. People don't learn from history, they do the same "mistakes" over and over again. An other problem is that in many countries the president has way too much power. I am from Switzerland and we have 7 "presidents" (Bundesräte). So if one of them missbehaves, he or she will be critizised by the other six Bundesräte. I prefer the system of the direct democracy we have in Switzerland.

A lot of times you can't pick a perfect party/ person, but you have to vote for the candidate you believe to do less damage. I absolutely love you and Mike. My husband and I have followed you for about a year and ended up moving to Germany back in October. I’m a dual citizen of the US and Germany and always felt like Germany was my “real” home despite having grown up in the USA. We moved in to my grandparents farmhouse after they recently died to try to bring it back to its original glory. Sadly, my experience here so far has been overwhelmingly dominated by US politics. I fear for the future of the US right now, just like last time, but worse! It’s exhausting having to worry about it and so infuriating to see the ignorance of people who I felt had compassion and respect for others, unconditionally. Friends on the right have been overtly bragging about what’s going on in the US as if it has any positive impact on their lives at all. Shaming immigrants, LGBTQ community, women, etc. It’s insane. I’ve said all along that I thought this would happen and everyone said I was overreacting. I feel your pain. I hope Germany follows a better path because it’s such a beautiful and special place to live. It really is. I’ve been coming here my whole life and I’m so glad I can say I live here now. But to see Trump on every TV and in every conversation here makes me sick. And to see Elon on display publicly endorsing AfD is even more crazy. Anyway, I’m done ranting. You and Mike should come back to Germany so we can all live together in harmony and be friends. 😅

Hi Haley, I've booked a flight to Germany and let them send my Briefwahlunterlagen to my parents' in Germany in order to make sure that my vote arrives on time to be counted. Or believe the stupidest things. 50% of people vote for parties that make the richest people even richer and the poor and middle classes even poorer. But there will be better times again. Unfortunately, the rise of far-right and populist parties is a disease that is spreading more and more in the whole western world. The problem is: not only do you have good election results for parties like the AfD, the moderate right-wing parties join the populist trend. I think the transformation of the CDU to a more and more populist party is almost as dangerous as the rise of the AfD. I never was a hughe CDU supporter, but they used to be a moderate party that you can work with.But nowadays they are going downhill. When I see whats happening to the CDU, it reminds me a lot of what happened to the Republicans in the US. Yes we have much more parties to choose from than the US, but somehow none of them is currently a really good option. You basically vote for the lesser evil, which of cause is never AfD.

It's not. With the roman salute you keep the elbow at the side of body only raising the underarm. About Elon Musk: Did it look like a Nazi-salute? Certainly. No doubt about this. Did he seriously intend to greet with a Nazi-salute? I can't tell. I can't read his mind. I cant't look into his head. As a consequence I was giving him the benefit of doubt and could rate it as a lapse of proper awareness and self-control. Now, a reasonable and appropriate reaction of him would have been to apologize to the public for possibly insulting or hurting with his action. He decided not to do that. Instead he started trolling people with even more disturbing digital messages. Additionally he's provided public support to a political far-right party with proven connections to far-right and neo-nazi persons and organisations which continues to issue statements of support for and commitment to Russia. It appears quite clear from my experience, that poeple in the US and Germany are strongly influenced by politicians and major prominent characters. Many are then emotionally catalysed by the braodcast and social media resulting that they jump to right or left extremes, leaving little middle ground for compromise. Each one of us should step back and view the situation from a global perspective and then make judgement in the light of the current problems having a logical mindset to solve them without directly citicising poeple of overtly opposite opinion. i.e. more empathy is needed. Politicians should be in a position to lead their nation like a company concern to achieve the best goals for the whole nation with everybody on board to assist in gaining these benefits. There are many conficts in this strategy but these can be dealt with by applying appropriate measures to minimise them. I'm a quality manager in a large company, so I know it works if everybody works together. I'm also a believing christian, so I know that listening to poeple, like Jesus did, also has long term benifits. Thanks for reading this. I do appreciate it.

You're absolutely right. But you won't convince AfD supporters, they're just like MAGA. I am somewhat relieved that the CDU, FDP and AfD's proposed law on migration was rejected in the Bundestag. It is the voters and members of CDU and FDP who matter. You have to talk to them if they think you can make politics with the voices of the extreme right. One big problem about voting for one of the smaller parties is the 5%-rule. Seats in Bundestag are only calculated among those that get at least 5% of the votes. And as smaller parties like Volt, the Humanist Party or even MLPD don’t get covered by the media much, they won’t get nearly enough votes. It’s like voting third party candidates in the US - it feels like wasting your vote, and it will just make those parties stronger which get into the Bundestag. (Ranked voting. I’m so here for it.) So my vote will be a strategic one, and I will give both my votes to the Greens, as I think among the larger parties, they are the only ones who do admit that we have issues, don’t lie about their own shortcomings, and don’t throw shit at other parties or candidates. I prefer to have my vote count and have strong greens after the election, to wasting my vote on a party that may be closer to my own political stance, but won’t make it above 5% in the end.

@@HayleyAlexis I don´t know if people actually read the parties lists what they would do or not do. AFD has the most detailed from all of them. One point on there is that they want to stop unemployment benefits. Say what? That is not even social services money, but money everyone gets deducted from their paycheck. Basically like a insurance, that someone uses if they loose their job. And since the AFD wants to remove social benefits too (I guess they want to make sure no so called immigrants receive anything), I am sure they will just stop social benefits for all citizens. Because they want to put people to work, no matter what the background of the person is that need it.
