The sad symbolism of Armin holding a sea shell literally on his hand but Eren is not even looking at it. The sea shell is like a depiction of innocent small things to enjoy. Armin still had hopes, dreams, innocence but Eren lost it all.

imo i feel that its more of showing the different dreams, armin dreamt of the sea which is why hes holding the sea shell something that you can only get from the sea, whereas eren is looking beyond the sea towards what his dream was, freedom, now ruined. armin thought they both shared the same dream but he was wrong which is why eren doesnt even look at the shell. but well thats just my opinion you might still be right

@@TheCacYeah i think both of you are correct in a way. Erens main goal is freedom, while armins dream is to explore the beauty and wonders of the world. Both of the dreams were symbolised by the sea. We see in this episode before thee ceremony eren thinks about the sea and quickly remembers the sea can no longer symbolise freedom, as beyond the sea ,theres war and suffering is waiting them. The sea turns from a symbol of freedom to a reminder that they aren’t free at all and their end may be near to come. I believe that’s why eren is no longer interested in the small beauties of world as now he has seen the world for what it truly is and knows what future has in store for everyone.

@@spunkymaniac9312 Armin planned the entire attack on Liberio, Armin fulfilled his role of destroying the port of Liberio killing a lot of people including civilians in order to win, Armin helped stop Marley's invasion and start the Rumbling (which he thought was going to be limited one). Armin after that managed to form an alliance between Scouts and Warriors to stop Eren and save the world, even if they had to stain their hands with the blood of their comrades, and thus become heroes for the feat and create a peace through diplomacy that lasted millennia. Armin is literally the GOAT and couldn't have made things better without the power of hindsight, Erwin would have been proud of what he accomplished.

But it wasn't bliss. Remember the island king did all this trying to create "paradise" but even when you cut off information and erase people's memories, people still suffered within the walls. "Ignorance is bliss" is what the King hoped was true as he ran from his own responsibilities.

@@sliceoflife7423Yeah that’s one of many beauties of the show. There is never one clear answer, each path has its it benefits and cons . We’ve seen that theme of world being cruel yet beautiful from the beginning and is present until the end. It’s also nice that by the end of the story you can see and understand every perspective of the major factions we see. Like after it’s all said and done King Fritz’s solution of making “ paradise” inside the walls for as possible, which ended the war of titans. Was a pretty reasonable solution now that we see what erens solution was.

Eren not even caring about the sea anymore, and is only focused on the enemies beyond really marks the significant change of his character. I also adore the silence as they witness the sea for the first time. Anyways, prepare for the endgame.

I yeah he care about the sea, but i think he cared more about what it meant. The sea symbolised to him being free from the walls. After he is enlightened by all the memories, he realised the sea was just another wall between him and the new enemies. That is why he asks if we cross the sea, like the did the wall and defeat their enemies, will they finally be free. It’s pretty sad how sea became confirmation to him that the memories were all correct and he now knows what he must do to finally be free.

Eren is simply showing empathy towards the titan by touching it gently, he didn't realize it was a "fellow patriot" when he made a contact with it, he realized the titans were patriots months ago when he opened up his fathers memories. If there was a memory connection with the titan, like with Historia earlier in the episode, then there would have been sparks of lighting appearing when he touched it.

At the end of this season, Eren let the Titans go because he knew that the pure Titans were the Eldian race that was thrown away and changed by the Marleyans. Eren's point of view towards Titans in seasons 1 to 3, considered Titans to be enemies but now everything has changed

Eren just knew the titan was a fellow patriot not by any memories or special thing but just by the fact...every titan we've looked at with hate was once a restorations fighting for the freedom of their ppl...and yeah like you said...eren can't smile...he's not excited by the sea cos to him it's not in books anymore..at this point he fully remembers his dad's whole life...life outside the walls doesn't have freedom it's just more enemies and the sea isn't a place of joy it's basically the last thing eldians saw before they became titans...so yeah...hence his apparent depression. Now on to season 4...the main AOT show begins

My favourite thing about AOT is how well is does thematic reversals. It's like a spiral tennis match; first we find out a titan is a human (Eren's reveal), then we find out that humans are titans (Eren's first on-screen transformation), then we realize that this means our enemy is human, then we find out ALL titans are humans, then we finally realize that WE must all be titans. It's chilling to put it all together and realize the hated enemy we fought for the first three seasons is US! And the world will fight us as hard and as justified as we fought our fellow Titans.
