It might be easier for those who can easily afford it but the poorer folks might feel more attached to their cups as they cost so much to begin with. Stanley has to confront the mistake they made when they chose to go with lead or they will lose their good standing with most people. The odd thing is that they became so popular at a time that Kardashian colors and minimalist style are starting to become ugly again. I case you didn’t know.. Sodium sulfide kits indicate the presence of lead by turning black or grey. Rhodizonate kits indicate the presence of lead by turning red or pink. Dark orange/brown is normal. Hope his helped!, ❤️ heave a nice day/morning/afternoon/noon/night/midnight!!
@Notyouraveragename10 ай бұрын
Yeah i used a couple of these kits in college. Multiple tests can indeed, have multiple colors, same as a pregnancy test. They work by combining chemicals and looking for chemical reactions. Even red cabbage juice i think has some interesting properties if exposed to acids/bases and it's like a litmus test. Regardless, the conclusion is clear. Stanley fan or not. The exposed hole in the bottom has a matchstick amount of lead used to seal up the vacuum. Solder is commonly made of 1$/lb lead, as 7-14$/lb tin is lead free and a acceptable substitute as well. But technically costs 14x more a pound. They could likely just make future stanley cups lead free by using a 7-14$/lb tin/ 1.4$/lb zinc lead free solder mixture. It might be what hydroflask uses even for their lead free cups. it would be 10x more a pound, sure. But if it's a matchstick amount.. it might literally just be all these lead concerns over 2-5 cents a cup.. on a 45$ branded, 5-6$ wholesale cup.

I cried or hid whenever I tried to talk...I believe the lead poisoning affected me neurologically. It took me probably a few years to finally talk.... Apparently, I contracted lead poisoning from the paint on the walls of the building I lived in as a young girl! (In New York.) I do not understand why people would WANT lead poisoning! It's not fun to have. I also have a feeling that I keep getting migraines because of my lead poisoning! (Mind you, I am thirteen.) I was literally put on medicine to keep from getting them so often. (Multiple migraines and headaches a week.) It's better now. **I'm** better now. Now, I have a slurred voice, which is REALLY annoying because people have a hard time understanding what I say....and it sounds high-pitched and weird. The problem is with continuous use of the cup. Sure, you are correct we are not directly putting our lips on the painted part and drink from it. But it’s our hands. Like the second woman has explained, the lead “dust” can get on to your hand and enter to your system either by the user consuming food after, or simply have the particles on their skin for a prolonged period of time. This is especially so for children, whom are also the targeted audience of this product. As they continuing on using the cup, their natural oil will start to rub off the paint little by little and enter to their system. Even just by washing them could make the lead particle looser too. That’s critical for children that’s still developing, and that’s why parents are concerned.

Every single vacuum sealed cup has the same material that Stanley does, this is not a unique issue of theirs. People need to do their research before attacking popular brands for no reason.. None of these cups are ever going to be sustainable like people think, even after they're thrown out or not used anymore, they're not recyclable and you would literally have to pass the cup down generations.

The cup's insulated seal can be damaged causing someone to be exposed to the lead, but that is highly unlikely. BUT, if you have had your Stanley for a while and you've been drinking lots of acidic things from it, the stainless steel is slowly breaking down. After a while the lead will be exposed. It takes a while, but it is happening, whether you know it or not.btw this is js a summary of all the stuff ive read" Others have said pretty much the same thing, so I'm guessing that's true.

In the US, the FDA allows for small amounts of lead in food, cosmetics, and other products. These positive tests don't tell us how much lead is in these bottles, just that some trace is present. I have no love lost for Stanley cups, but people are freaking out over something they are ill informed about. I would be interested to know what the levels of lead are and if people have the potential to reach toxic levels with continued use of the cups.
@ANPC-pi9vu Жыл бұрын
If the test only tinged slightly, I'd agree. In the cases where the test has a very strong reaction, I'd be looking into further testing because no, that isn't some FDA approved trace amount, pretty sure. The test most of them are using is one developed for checking for contaminates like lead paint in houses. Lead paint, not paint with a slight trace of lead. It does not give a flat positive or negative, it gives a range.

A positive test isn't nothing, but it's also not proof. Just a reason to look into it further. It's not lawsuit worthy yet, it's concern worthy. Further testing worthy.

Before I would go recalling all the Stanley cups, I would want to know if they were using tap water. A surprising amount of lead can be found in tap water, as a lot of the pipes were made with lead before they realized it was bad. But then because it was too expensive to replace all the pipes, they just injected a chemical to prevent lead from peeling off. So all of those pipes are just a time-bomb waiting to give everyone lead-poisoning (yeah). This would make a lot more sense then Stanley using leaded steel to manufacture their products (since that is technically illegal).

@@kittysoftpaws3677 Did any of them test their other cups? I think we all do tend to take our safety for granted. When it comes to pipes, old lead pipes usually are safe due to calcium build up lining the pipes basically preventing it from leaching, but then spikes in lead contamination in water will occur every time work is done on the water infrastructure. Most older places with a shared infrastructure will have lead pipes in their system. Where I grew up you never used hot tap water for drinks or recipes, we were always taught to use cold tap water and heat it in the pot, because the water heater can end up with a concentration of lead in it. Is that true? Dunno. But lead in city water was a known risk. We were also told to run our taps for a certain amount of time every time watermains were being worked on or hydrants flushed, and not to use the water until we'd run it out to clear the contaminants that were stirred up.

Most in the video were not using tests with black stuff on them? Also, there's two types of lead tests with different chemicals, right? I think what you are saying comes down to reliability of the supplier. I don't doubt that there are pre-contaminated tests coming out of places like China and Singapore, but if you dip the swab and just let it set, if it was pre-contaminated it would change without having to swab anything. So one can easily buy one of those cheap bulk packs and just do a control test to make sure it's not a bad batch. From there if they get a strong reaction they can look into sending it to an actual lab for professional testing to find out what is going on with the item.

Hi! I’m studying chemistry in college, and I can tell you why the those ones are black. We actually got to do a lab once in inorganic chemistry with these test swabs. If you’re interested, just look up why your swab is a certain color. But especially the swabs have certain ions on them that when they come into contact with lead, they turn a different color. The one that turns red/pink simply has a different ion in it and the one that turns brown/black has another ion in it. Anyway, the fact there is lead present in these cups is very scary and the people saying lead poisoning is fine or cool will not be responding that way when they actually get it. The symptoms are not good. If your curious look up lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan. They had a really bad case of it a couple years ago.

The lead is in the seal on the bottom of the outside of the bottle. Unless you suck the center of the bottom of the bottle you aren’t getting exposed to the lead. Lead is also in nearly every piece of electrical equipment including the earbuds that you put in your ears. It’s a part of SOLDER- just like asphalt, tires, and most plastics are oil based- virtually all solder contains lead. Glass can be used to seal the vacuum layer but is much more fragile than a metal aka solder seal.

The inner lining of the cup is stainless steel, an alloy made of iron, chromium and nickel. Lead does not leech through it into the contents. You'd be more likely to get chromium and nickel leeching from using stainless steel cook ware because of the extreme temperatures, but you don't see people panicking over the metallurgical makeup of their pots and pans. Also, I don't see too many people drinking from the bottom of their Stanley cups, after prying off the seal at the bottom.

To me, they should test for lead in the water they drink because they aren't going to like the answer the tests give. Water has lead in it, only appropriate in federal and state laws. If anything is over that limit, it means you got a Flint, Michigan problem. I would also state that if they are using lead paint, then that's a whole felony lawsuit right there because we haven't put lead in paint for a long time. Let's just say that even a normal glass is going to have something bad in it. Do you want a vintage uranium glass cup? If people really think something is happening they need to make these things be tested in a lab to test the amount, FDA has a "acceptable" limit for it and then they should send the results to FDA. Just saying out loud on tik tok can cause a lot of harm, because if they are stating something with no trustworthy proof, Stanley can sue them for defamation

The tests do indicate a range of presence, not a simple positive vs negative. There's some tests in this vid where the swabs, which start out an orange/yellow color, only discolor the tiniest bit, and others where they turned the most vibrant magenta or a deep red. I think it's reason enough to start asking questions and get a consumer advocacy organization involved. I'm sorry... you TRUST the FDA? More the fool, you. I agree with not going into hysterics and condemning the brand until more is known, but people have reason enough to far to warn people not to give their kids Stanleys. Lead poisoning is bad for anyone, but it is especially dangerous for childhood development. It can put a perfectly healthy kid into the double digit IQ range along with long term medical complications.

About the ending- lead absorbs through the skin, so even touching it (like if the paint had lead in it) is harmful. And running it through the dishwasher would be really bad too.
@Skyfire123 Жыл бұрын
Exactly people are saying its safe considering that its on the bottom and isn't in your drink, they are very ignorant because they don't know that lead is so dangerous that even just being around it is dangerous. Having lead paint in your house is dangerous to just be around let alone touching it.

It’s a cup, it’s ment to be used on the go, ofc it’s gonna sustain damage (especially if a hiker or someone like that uses it). Things happen, who knows, I know I wouldn’t drink out of a cup if I run the risk of getting lead poisoning if I drop it a few to many times though 💀

This is worrisome for sure! We need to write letters to the company to address the issue and have the Stanley cups ingredients changed! Someone else commented on another youtuber’s video about being allergic to the ingredients of the Stanley cup as well. This is scary and the company needs to be aware and the cups should be recalled.

I have a theory, in the video in which the mother tested the three Stanley cups and they progressively got worse, if you listen to how she talks about them, the first 2 were used far more but had a more orange colour, the third (her husband I think) was a dark pink, she said that he used it occasionally, this leads me to believe that since the first 2 were used far more than the third, more lead had been digested by the users and taken off of the cups. But remember that’s just a theory, A STANLEY THEORY

A friend of mine got one of these cups as a gift from their boss and after finding out this stuff they got a bit creative with a test. They did two tests, one on the cup and one on a drinking fountain at our old elementary school (It was closed down more recently but they are running farewell tours through it before it's demolished). The school kept the fountains but made sure everyone knew not to drink from them due to the old pipes having lead. The tests came back with the Stanley cup having more lead than a swab from an old drinking fountain with lead pipes. They pitched it while at the school in a dumpster and I gave them one of my old spare bottles after I cleaned it up since it was sitting in the closet (I don't do this craze stuff, I'll stick to my old Tupperware bottles). Out of fear, they ran a test on the bottle I gave them, no lead, but now they're paranoid about it. For context about the old elementary school, when me and my friend were students back in the early 2000s (Around 2001-2002), not a single kid drank from those fountains because we simply found them gross. Worked for me, due to reasons, I never could drink water straight (Doesn't need flavoring, add a pinch of salt or sugar and I can drink it; it's apparently a trauma reflex) so I always had my bottle of homemade icetea (No sugar, because it made me tired back then, something my grandfather had with his body too; it was usually just a homemade blend of tea since my grandmother believed tea should be harvested by your own hands to be sure it was good enough to grace a cup, she's English if that helps and she got that from my great grandmother). Still shocked me that our old school had a less dangerous fountain than some overpriced overhyped cup.

Just imagine being one of these people that are super obsessed with these huge ass cups because it's a TikTok trend, when you can use normal glass cups, and you can see the liquid inside the cups! So cool!

It’s not about having a glass cup, most people that use Stanley’s take them for hiking, the gym, or long day use because it’s a thermos. Instead of a glass cup there are other thermos options like hydro flasks or another kind of
