Thanks, I just bought an Amadeus 780. I play an Irish flute with no keys. I guess it’s really a big fife. I’m going to spend the next few weeks learning to play a few favorite tunes on my new flute. About 45 yrs ago I had a beginner’s flute with open holes. I already played recorder at an intermediate level so I had no trouble with the open holes. It did take me a while to,learn the fingering and I’m back to square one. I listened to ALL the demos and you are clearly the best player. Very clean and with a really good tone. Bye for now.

So far I can get a really nice tone when I concentrate. I am at square one concerning fingering, muscle memory apparently doesn’t span 45 years but since the first and second octaves are mostly the same and I’m sticking to the D and G scales for My Irish music tunes I’m not doing too bad. I ordered a couple of books including Flute 101 and I’m planning to expand the range of keys I play in. I’m a fiddler and I was an intermediate recorder player (well before I bought that first flute) so I expect to get up to speed on a few months. Thank you for all these great videos. I wish someone would make a device that enables a listener to hear the actual volume of a recording. I can, as I said, get a nice rich tone but I wonder if my volume is okay. Oh well.

Tone on the Amadeus 780 sounded richer and fuller to me. If you had to choose between Amadeus 780 and Yamaha 462 . . . Which one do you think you'd choose?

Just wanted you to know that because you took the time to give a thoughtful answer to my question I just used your code to purchase an Amadeus AF 900. Life got in the way of making a trip up there so I just purchased the flute online.

I have the Haynse 580, works really good, it's just a little bit harder to play than the Yamaha 472

Haynes Q1 sounded the richest, which is not surprising since it is the most expensive and hand made. I have the first one you demoed but I find the Armstrong closed hole c foot model 90 that I also have to have a richer tone because it is all sterling silver, it is easier to play and more fun, which is probably why Jazz players I have read prefer the closed hole with C foot design (Hubert Laws may not agree on that one though since he is a highly trained classical flutist that plays jazz too), one of the older Haynes with closed holes and c foot all sterling would be a great flute to own as my uncle who was a professional in Miami owned one and it was lovely.... the Haynes sound which is achieved by a larger hole in the head joint in part, gives a deep resonant sound.

@katieflute

Thank you, Jas!! I'm so glad you've found them helpful :D The first piece of the two is Faure's Sicilienne, and the second is an etude which I BELIEVE is by Andersen but I can't quite remember :/

That's my favorite too, Kiara! :D The first piece I'm play is Faure's Sicilienne, and I can't remember exactly what the second piece is, but I think it is an Andersen etude

I love the tone of the 780. What is your opinion on the 14K riser option? Does that tiny bit of gold add enough something extra in tonal colors to be worth it? I would also like to know how the 780 felt as far as resistance. That was a great demo of all three flutes.
@kiaraeijo
@kiaraeijo 6 жыл бұрын
satinbarbi Gold tends to have a darker sound and it's more mellow in comparison to silver
@satinbarbi
@satinbarbi 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kiara. I know a gold headjont will give you a darker tone. I am just wondering if the riser alone adds enough darkness and warmth to the tone to be worth paying an extra $400 for. Since the riser is so tiny and the gold is 14K that means you are paying about $200 or so more than the gold is actually worth. Unless that tiny bit of gold makes a dramatic difference I would stick to the silver riser. At this point I am just going to drive to NYC and visit the flute center and try several in my price range both used and new and find that one special flute.

satinbarbi Even adding just a gold crown to your silver flute makes a difference😃

@katieflute
@katieflute 6 жыл бұрын
Hi santinbarbi! For me, the 780 definitely had a bit more resistance than the 680 due to the silver body! Kiara is right- gold can bring more depth and color to the sound of a flute, but it is a personal preference! I know some flutists that prefer to play on silver as opposed to gold, but I think that adding a bit of gold to a silver flute can be a really beautiful combination that works for most people :)

I find the sound a little fuzzy on these flutes. I am looking for a flute with a clear but resonate and rich sound up to the $ 4 000 dollar mark or on sale. Maybe a high order!
