All you need to do is remove the coolant reservoir from the firewall and you’ll have access to the heat shield over the alternator. Two 10mm bolts and one 13mm nut and then the 15mm bolts for the alternator are accessible. If you put a pry bar on the left engine mount and gently rock it you can pull the alternator up easily between the exhaust manifold and heat shield and the A/C tank. This is the way the job is supposed to be done.

Went out this morning to start my PT cruiser and it was dead so I jumped it but by the time I returned after putting the jump box away the car had quit. My first thought was oh s*** my alternator. So I priced one and it wasn't too bad but since I've never replaced one on PT cruiser or I started perusing KZbin. I came across a similar method to the one you mentioned first but thought I would look into different methods. I ran across this Haynes video and thought - okay these guys make the manuals for the car they're going to have the "right way to do it". Well screw that. That seems like a whole lot of work and I'm convinced again the engineers who make this s*** never have to work on their own cars. And thanks for the advice by the way. ☮️

Wow this is insane! All u meed to do is remove the coolant reservoir above the alternator. Then take out a few bolts and u can remove it tgrough the top. This is crazy. Lmao

Naw. Only some years. 2002, 2003, there is a receiver dryer in the way. To take it out or move it enough you'd have to open the ac system. Why do that when removing the axle takes literally 3 mins.

I need this so bad😢 I just watched this on how to do it, I am 63 years old woman. I just got a battery, and a couple of days later, my car wouldn't start. And my battery charger wouldn't start it. All I could do is sit in my car and cry.. I thought maybe I could do it, but after watching the video. I really don't think so. I have been very sick with pneumonia for 3 going to 4 weeks. I need my car so very bad. I can't take care of my family, or myself. I have two sons, but they are also disabled as am I. I had to leave the heater on as it is, to try and keep the care from blowing up by getting too hot. They want too much to fix it. I have just about lost faith in myself. I Believe in God with all my heart and I prayed and prayed and prayed. I just don't think I can do this. I don't know what to do anymore.😢

Read that you can remove alternator from the top if you remove the coolant tank and the top heat shield. I removed top heat shield didn't know their was second shield while trying to remove it got jammed had to bend it to remove . Also the connectors were tight one to remove use a 8 m socket other one squeeze and pull. I am getting ready to remove axle by way of the Haynes video. I am working on a 2002 my new altenator is for a 2001 to 2002 maybe their a little bit larger?

You don’t have to remove the drive axle completely, I just removed the end going into the hub and moved it to the side and was able to get the alternator out. No leaking to worry about or filling the trans back up. 😊

They didn't mention you also have to move the power steering cooler assembly aside two bolts eight or ten mil ? I did on a 2002 .

Alot of comments stat that you can remove from top.I have a 2002 tried that method didn't work for me could be alternators for the 2001 and 2002 were larger? Removed from bottom this vidio doesn't mention you must unbolt the power steering cooler and move aside, the Haynes book mentioned that step worked for me.

How many people unbolted the spindle and didnt use a spring compressor? The strut will push directly into the CV boot. I couldnt get it removed from the top. Why did you skip the step of using a spring compressor?

Ah, He never checked the transmission fluid level. I saw he lost fluid, but without checking the fluid level, well he has the alternator changed, in a few months he can change the transmission

This isnt useful no torque specs for alternator mounting bracket yet we see him torquing it down in the video

You do not have to remove the axle to CHG the alternator! I got a newish one from the junkyard for $40 bucks! An I pulled it from the top! An didn't have to remove any drivetrain prts! 🤷🥴
