Wow, I even ordered a new, and expensive light to replace the one that had been intermittently flashing, going off, randomly on and off, then totally off. It wouldn't change when I powered on/off, and then simply died. I only had it about two and half years. I pulled the old one out and set it on the deck, then took a few days to contemplate getting started on a PITA to snake the new one in, redo the wiring etc. Right before I started, I tried one more time to see if it would come on, and it did, and it worked perfectly. So then I looked again online to see if I could find info on this and found your video. I have a different model, different size, but basically the same thing. I took the back off an saw where there was just a little bit of space on one side, as if the glass were just slightly warped. I silicon sealed it using aquarium safe sealant, in the glass to bezzle that covers the the electronics, then I sealed the rubber gasket, then I sealed again where the big glass cover goes over it, tightened itall back up and it's sitting in the sun on the deck now curing. But, It's working again! I'll send the expensive amazon light back as it's still boxed up. $5 sealant vs $800 plus for a new light before labor! So much thanks to you.

I took my light off several months ago and I'm now ready to attach the light back on to the pool PVC housing. Question: I'm not seeing a gasket that seals the light fixture to the PVC housing to keep water sealed-out between the two when attached. Do you know if one is required or do you have a gasket between your pool housing and light assembly? Hopefully you're still out there in KZbin land :).

Weird, we both must've seen that post at the same time!!! My one light was acting up, I randomly found that post in the reviews while thinking "If I can repair an amp or ECU, I can resolder whatever is jacked up in here". THANK YOU for getting to this early and making a video!!!!! You must not have kids hahaha.

Found this video just in time. My Colorlogic 4.0 light trips the GFCI (after flickering on for a split second). I was going to crack it open and see if I could detect a leak. Sounds like I'm having the same problem. Going to try this fix first before I drop $800+ for a replacement.

Awesome work Sean. I followed along with what you did and unfortunately it didn't work. I checked voltages to the light and we're at 120V. Took it out and found condensation under the clear dome. What I also noted that one of the traces (right where that little bar code sticker is) was blown out. It's not making the connection. I'm planning on soldering wire in its place and then potting it. Then rebuild and seal as you showed. I plan to test it in a bucket of water before committing to installing it back in the pool. Just a few hours and see if it sealed up. Any thoughts?

So water inside the unit prevents it from working but not necessarily ruin it permanently? I ask because my LPCCUN11100 stopped working and I pulled it out to dry. I turned it on while it was out and it was working. I put it back in the pool and it stopped working. I'm assuming water got in and stopped it from working.

Yes. Condensation gets on electronics. Causes breaker to trip.

Thanks for sharing this. I have the same light, about the same age, and same symptoms. Seems this was published 2 years ago. How is it holding up? Have you had to repeat the process at all? Would you still recommend Gorilla Glue, or another less adhesive allowing for easier future maintenance? Thanks.

Great video. I have exact same issues. What are your thoughts on putting some of the silicon sealant around the rubber grommet on the back side where the wires come in too? Thinking could be water leaking through that. wondering if that sealant would hold up well when exposed on one side in water.
@sahrens1
@sahrens1 3 жыл бұрын
That is a special type of cable. That rubber grommet and cable, if you touch it is oily and is designed to withstand chlorine. I don't think it would hold. Further, the introduction of other chemicals could have an adverse reaction. I don't think that's what's happening. I think its the heating/cooling of the pool that is creating condensation. If there was a leak, the light would be completely full of water. I think its condensation shorting it out. thanks for the comment.

Great video. I'm getting a new pool right now and I am getting one of these lights. We're at the stage of filling the pool before the backfill is done. The light is wired but wasn't installed into the housing yet. We were told to fill the pool. However, the seal tight conduit that they ran will fill up with water. Electricity and water don't mix. I shut the water off filling the pool. The pool company AND the electrician tells me this is fine. Any thoughts?
@sahrens1
@sahrens1 3 жыл бұрын
All good this is a water tight seal from the cable to the light housing. The cable should never be cut. The main thing is the protective rubber tubing around the wires. Keep on filling.. Enjoy the new pool! the water will not exceed the height of the pool. The electrical box should be on conduit that is raised 1-2' above water line.
@GRJCLyon
@GRJCLyon 3 жыл бұрын
@@sahrens1 You are correct. The electrical box is mounted much higher. I know water is self leveling but I was concerned with the wiring being submerged in water all the time. They used a seal tite conduit which I thought was used to keep water out not keep it in. I do see the light and cable are water sealed to the control panel so yes, you are correct there as well. My thing was I'm filling my pool and I'm wondering how the conduit was going to be able to keep the water out. In looking further it's called Wet Niche conduit. The water apparently is supposed to be in there. I didn't know this. I've always been taught water and electric don't mix so this had me baffled. Thank you for the clarification. I appreciate it.

check out this video about the pool light niche's. I realize you "new pool" is now atleast a year old by your post date, but hopefully they installed that flexible conduit piece to accommodate for the ground settling through out the years and cracking/breaking the back of the niche. I have no idea if mine has it or not, but I hope so...lol. Just found this video very informative and made me really think. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aamooKSNd5VkqMU

My light just tripped my GFCI for the 1st time the other night & now the light is very dim & barely visible when powered on. Can anybody chime in to whether I need a full replacement or I can try this DIY, myself? I really don't want to drop $950 on a light that I barely use. Great video!

@@oj4253 This seems like a different model. This repair is not for that light. They may have made the light so it cannot be repaired. You might consider leaving it out in the sun to see if the water is shorting it.

I had the same issue where it would kick out the GFCI when I turned on the light. I followed the instructions and there was moisture on the inside part of the light. Had it out in the sun all morning and went out at lunchtime to try it out. Kicked on the light and a large spark and pop and something blew out on the circuit board. I am completely bummed right now. Went back to the control panel and the GFCI is not tripped and I smelled a little burnt smell. Not sure if it did something to the relay for the lights. I will have to dig into that another day. Anyone ever come up with a good replacement? Any advice would be appreciated.
@sahrens1
@sahrens1 3 жыл бұрын
There are no cheap options. If you have an electronics repair facility, they may be able to replace the part that shorted (many of the parts are off-board). However, more than likely, the light should be replaced.
