Coming back to this track again, I have to say that Haywyre is the artist that introduced me to jazz. While I have found a plethora of other talented jazz artists, none have encroached on Haywyre's unique slice of jazz fusion. I remember listening to the album The Voyage when I was a freshman in high-school. My life has been flipped upside-down a number of times since then, but my musical tastes always rebounded with Haywyre in some capacity. I remember falling in love with Voice of Reason from Two Fold Pt. 1; and becoming fixated on Transient from Two Fold Pt. 2. I remember listening to Everchanging on repeat when I was feeling melancholic, or sad, or simply numb. I remember discovering older albums like Of Mellows And Revelations and thinking "this is weird," but still listening to them religiously. And seeing the live performance of Insight made me go apeshit, what an amazing day. And I remember that the first music album I ever bought with my _own_ earned money was Panorama: Discover. Over the years I have developed a parasocial relationship with Haywyre, which as has enabled me to feel an undue entitlement at times. Whenever I felt there was a gap in releases, or that a song didn't resonate particularly strong with me, I imagined it as a betrayal. However, analyses of these instances has yielded a special knowledge to me- something I want to cast into the abyss of the internet, likely to never be read. Haywyre's music was always present when I was suffering the most in my past, or when I was undergoing the greatest transitions. The times when I felt betrayed are almost all within the last 2 years or so, when I stumbled across a calm period in my life with reduced turmoil. The meaning that I attached to each song was something that I ultimately had control over, even if my environment was uncontrollable. Here I am, going over Haywyre's entire discography try to comfort myself--trying to relive a past that is easier compared to today. Here I am, at the foot of new woes and sorrows. Here I am, beginning a different type of transition. I can't wait to see what's next.
