In my opinion, this was his best solo performance, performed during the best live show of his career. I have the live dvd of this performance and I used to watch it over and over again. The amount of energy and heart the band brought to the stage is unprecedented
@ZiddersRooFurry4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I've seen thousands of his solos and while they were all amazing nothing measures up to the pure fun and joy in this pic. I think Eddie was at his soberest and happiest here. I suspect his son Wolfgang had a lot to do with it. He had a kid, he and the band were getting along great and his marriage was doing good, too. These were good times. Saw them on this tour and the solo was exactly like this that night, too. It wasn't like this was pieced together or overdubbed. Eddie was on top of his game.

Back then, it was all about the album release and live tour. The only way to hear it was to buy it and the only way to see was at a venue. No internet no Spotify and no KZbin. What you SAW is what you got. No way to record it live except in your mind. I’ll NEVER forget the first time I heard EVH play live. I swear I thought he was from another planet, ESPECIALLY when he played the part that starts at 6:54 The first time I heard that, he played it note-for-note at the Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas in 1986. My brothers and I just looked at each other stupefied, like, “There’s no way he’s human…” TOTALLY blown away in every sense of the word. It’s like we were trippin balls without the drugs We had no idea what was coming. We had only heard Eruption up to that point because, again, there was no video evidence of anything. You had to go see it. And seeing it live for the first time is something I’ll never forget
