Michael Anthony is cool af! I was manager of a Maui Tacos restaurant in Hawaii on Maui and Mad Anthony came in with his wife and family. I comped his lunch and hooked him up with some of our bottled hot sauces and a few t-shirts and hats. The next day he comes back with an autographed photo and a sweet VH t-shirt. He says, "thanks for the food, hot sauce and swag yesterday." Mr. Anthony, you're a class act and thanks for the awesome experience of meeting you and your family!

There was no need for the brother's to treat Michael Antony the way the done so. It had to be because he and Sammy Hagar got along through it all. Besides Eddie being the best guitar player in the world Michael Anthony was the best for keeping up with him. All it took was a new manager to come in and tell Eddie to get his band back from Sammy Hagar. Which was straight up bullshit. After he kick Sammy and Michael Anthony out of the band he went no where. Sammy continued writing album's after album's. With Michael Anthony. They took Michael Anthony's rights to play any VH song but they did count on him being Sammy Hagar bass player ,Don't forget Sammy wrote most of these songs with Eddie. EDDIE didnt go far when he got back with Roth and his song. Sammy Hagar was the final piece of Van Halen

I was so pissed when DLR left in the mid eighties. I wouldn't listen to the Hagar albums until F.U.C.K. came out. I loved every song on it so I had to see what I was missing. When Hagar left after Balance I was even more pissed than I was When Roth left. 25 years on the world has lost VH forever and 8 months ago we lost the greatest guitar player of all time, and I'd give my left arm to have VH back no matter who was singing. R.I.P. Ed. Thank you for bearing your heart and soul every time you picked up a guitar. We will never forget you.

@@muurimc I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this either lol I bought it on VHS when it came out in 1993. No KZbin back then so the only concert (full concert) footage there was of Van Halen prior to this was Live Without a Net. That was good but it was only 90 minutes because they had technical difficulties and weren’t able to record the entire concert. Also it was their 1st album with Hagar so they didn’t have a lot of material yet. So when this came out to finally see a full Van Halen concert on video was absolutely mind blowing. Only complaint is that the director used 2 nights of footage and combined them so it throws you off sometimes when Hagar is wearing 1 shirt and then the next second another shirt. Eddie and Mike were smart and wore the same outfit both nights apparently lol Overall though this is an awesome F.U.C.K.ing show!

Maybe the fact that everything was overdubbed and fixed in the studio may have a reason to do with some of the dislike...? By the time they finished the "sweetening" it was literally a studio album w/ all new vocals in addition to massive drum overdubbing and eddie's parts. I know they are far from the first and far from the last to do this but still it sucks especially from a band you love.

I was in Greensboro in 2007, and it was bad. Missed 2012. Saw them up close in Raleigh in 2015. Band solid as ever. Eddie was vaping, but looked good and played CLEAN. The live album, Dave's vocals were bad. So I went in with lower expectations for that. And he crawled under the bar. Seriously, he can't sing anymore, and there's a pack of cigarettes visible in one of the tattoo cream interviews. Also they were supposed to do in a Simple Rhyme, and Dave blathered on so long about his top 10 favorite dance moves (not making this up) eventually Ed came up and said something in his ear, and I guess it was to cut that song, because they didn't play it. Not sure why, I think that venue (Walnut Creek) allows until 11, and they were still of by 10:30. It was a lot fun seeing things like DOA and Dirty Movies played live. Maybe a vocal coach could clear him up, I don't know. I saw The Circle in late 2017 and Sammy's even losing it a bit (of course he's 71 now), Mike still sounds good though.

This was a heck of a good concert. Every member is on top...but I have to say, Sammy is in a special place here. A true great! It's just amazing to me to see guy hit those vocal notes night after night.

He sang the whole concert in the studio. It's not live. Not that he couldn't do it live as well, but Ed and Al went back and fixed all their mistakes in the studio, which made Sammy's live singing out of tune (when it was in tune with how the played live) so he had to go back, watch a big video of the show and sing the tracks again.

You know what guys? I've listening ti Van Halen Music since 1984,,, I was 11yo, since then, I followed them. When I knew David was leaving the band, I felt that was the end. I bought the next album and did not think Samy was something bad for the band. Actually, I think that was the best thing could have happened to the band. I love VAN HALEN!!!

+Ricardo Sanchez I like both eras. Roth was never greatest singer, but he was a showman and that rubbed off on the creative element of the band. Van Halen were/are much more adventurous with Roth in the Band. Hagar is a better singer and Roth is so bad now, but the last album was much more musically creative than anything since 1984. I just think they should make up with Michael Anthony. He is a great guy. Nothing wrong with Wolfgang, but it is just wrong what they did to Michael.

+Ricardo Sanchez I saw VH in 1984, and DLR was mediocre at best. Diver down was his idea... and a pretty weak one. Sammy refreshed the band and led them to much bigger success. Sammy can sing RING around DLR and write better lyrics. Plays better guitar too. I was an INSTANT fan of 5150.

***** You do understand that having an open mind, like I have, is what led me to believe that Sammy is better than Dave. I couldn't have come to that conclusion without listening to both. It's not just the music, but the stage presence. Sammy is better on stage. David is extremely unoriginal.

reformcongress Sammy has by far the better voice. He's one of the only rock singers in his 60s that can still really sing. You just need to look at what's left of Coverdale, Gillan and Plant's voices to realise Sammy is something special. My objection to Sammy is that they let him write lyrics! They're awful. Completely juvenile and embarrassing. Poundcake, Black and Blue, Up For Breakfast, Spanked, Amsterdam (which was one of the final straws, I believe) etc etc. Horrible writing. Dave can't sing for his supper these days but he has a special way with lyrics that manages to combine humour, pathos and sleaze, often in the same sentence. If they could just persuade Dave to write the songs and Sammy to sing them, everyone would win!

Saw this show in Saskatoon when I was 16. Someone made a proposal through “When it’s Love” delivered via Sammy. So cool. Alice In Chains opened. Wow, was I a lucky boy that day! RIP Eddie my hero, as well as Layne Staley.

I was there too! Still goes down as one of the best concerts I have ever seen. At the time, no one in Toon knew who the hell Alice In Chains were. I remember people still filing in to floor seating while they were playing and Layne being pissed off that there were people just sitting and staring with arms crossed while they were playing. Those were some good years.

Great story. When Alice in chains opened up for kiss in 1996 he said " I see a lot of you are dressed up like kiss!, How come none of you dressed like me? " it was so funny. No one realizd back then that aic would evolve into one of the most popular and influential bands of all time. You're a lucky man. And I never knew Michael Anthony could shred bass like that. Everyone knows his harmonized vocals are perfect. Thanks

Every time I see this man onstage my heart breaks all over again. I remember being 17 years old walking into the record shop and hearing Running With The Devil. I looked at the clerk and said, “who the fuck is THIS?!”. She replied, “New group, Van something or other”. I bought the album immediately and have been hooked ever since. I never met Eddie but I feel like I lost my best friend. He was there for me in good times and bad for the last 40+ years. I will never get over his passing.
