That is the thing about them, much of their music, even their early stuff, still sounds fresh today. They came in on top and left the same way. They were the perfect storm because after the went their separate ways, they all produced great songs but they never quite achieved the general timeliness. Though I would give a nod to John's first real solo album 'Plastic Ono Band'. He took a complete left turn into what sounds like a prediction of the punk music that would come several years later.

I was a teenager. My brother was back from Vietnam. He had a very high end stereo with Koss headphones. I sat in his recliner chair in the dark listening to this. In the end when it turns repetitive and gets more and more dreamy, I actually feel as if I am slowly being lifted out of the chair. Then it crashes to a halt and I bolt upright thinking, "What the hell just happened?" I've heard it a thousand times since but always remember that first time sensation.

How can something that sounds so doomed still sound so fucking beautiful?
@stevenmix37233 жыл бұрын
The story is that the abrupt ending was a pure accident. They forgot to change the tape, and then jammed so long, that the tape ran out. But it was finished so precise, it ended up being a keeper.
@vKarl73 жыл бұрын
None of that is true. John sat in the control booth and asked their engineer Geoff Emerick to chop the tape right where it ends at 7:44. The actual take ended at 8:04.
@gretchennelson70563 жыл бұрын
That is NOT true. You just don’t want to give John the credit.

Steven Mix, you are a liar !
@hw3434342 жыл бұрын
The reality is John overruled the engineer Geoff Emerick and yelled “Cut the Tape!” and Emerick complied. Nobody had ever done that before, Lennon innovating again just like with the first recorded guitar feedback on “I Feel Fine” and the first reverse vocal on “Rain” much earlier in Beatles history
