It will all depend on what Grace will do with this information. Given that she did look a little disturbed by Tuba's death, it is possible that she hides the fact from Simon (and probably helps her calm down so that she shape shifts into her human form again? Maybe?)

EkoBahamut then again the only reason we see presented for grace being “disturbed” is cause it ruins the chances of recruiting hazel not cause she felt bad that Simon killed tuba. Though at this point it is going to be a very interesting few episodes to see what happens.

I think this will be a turning point of Grace, she’s become connected to Hazel but now that she knows she’s a denizen, she’ll likely change her beliefs on nulls. I think going on, Grace will try to protect Hazel from Simon, with him becoming the main antagonist of the season, and having it end with Grace leaving the train after learning respect for others. Either that or she’ll try and change the Apex ideas.

While Hazel turning into a turtle tosses this out the window, it is possible for a human to be on the train without a number. As the end of Lake's journey showed, passengers only get a number after the train views their tape. With this logic, if someone was born on the train they would have no number. Assuming that the tracker works by detecting numbers means that anyone born on the train would not only be untraceable, but have no way to leave the train.

I also love her cute friendship with Tuba as a protective friend and sorta father figure to Hazel. Simon did mess things up for the two and Grace was also in the wrong as well.

That's definitely a possibility except adding a number does not make it genetic. If you paint a worm green, and it was originally red, then it's offspring will most likely also be red and not green since the paint functions like an accessory. Even if you get something stuck in your skin like a tattoo there is still no chance that your child/children will gain something like that tattoo since it was added to the body and wasn't genetic. If a denizon and a human were to have a child, it seems very unlikely for that child to have been born with any type of number XP Maybe when the number is added by the train it affects the passengers' DNA but again, that seems unlikely since once they are off the train, the number goes away and doesn't appear unless another is added. Something that is added through genetic alteration probably wouldn't go away as so.on as it changed to a certain lo.ok .p. Basically just the number probably wouldn't show up on the child since the number has nothing to really do with DNA XP Actually, even if the child *would* have a number, it doesn't really explain why it wouldn't function or at least change, especially after having an actual number to be stuck on. Like, why wouldn't it just be a random symbol like Jesse's was shown to be for a bit, or why not a much lower number like 0 or 1 since they're a child and don't really have many problems to deal with yet. Or why even have a number at all and not just have the little things surrounding where the number should be since denizons are also considered "nulls?" I'm not attacking you, I swear. My original theory was that Hazel is a passenger who hasn't affected her number at all so she slowly became a denizen but now I'm thinking that she's a biological child of two passengers and that they both left the train after her birth.

At this point I feel pretty certain that Hazel is one of Amelia's experiments to recreate her dead husband Alrick, because she doesn't seem to remember her past at all, dreams of meeting other humans, looks...sort of like Alrick I guess, with that blond(e) hair, wears clothes similar to Amelia and Alrick's school uniforms, uses British terminology like "daft," "barking mad," and "chap," has a static number that doesn't glow, doesn't know all sorts of things like if she's a kid, and that all her furniture is rocks, has some knowledge of things associated with the British like tea, and dancing (which isn't a British thing, but the specific style she knew was very proper), got more upset when her dad was mentioned than her mom, as if he was of greater significance, perhaps not around anymore, and of course because she transformed into a turtle creature, as well as a bunch of other reasons I haven't remembered. I've had this theory since I saw the poster and thought it seemed pretty obvious, so it's funny that I didn't notice anyone else think of it until they witnessed Hazel's turtle transformation. But it's more obvious now than ever, and the first five episodes have provided lots of great evidence.

What I found interesting is when Simon and Grace we're talking about Amelia, they very obviously don't know who she is or anything about her story, as they referred to her as a man with a robot helmet, not understanding why she hid her identity or the fact she had falsely taken the train to recreate her old life, and since the Apex most likely didn't exist while Tulip was on the train they wouldn't know anything about Tulip's journey or anything she learned about Amelia. It makes me think what if they had found Atticus, or if somehow they learned about Tulip and what she did on the train, how would they react and what would that do not only to Simon but Grace, since Simon has a history with the cat would he even believe what he'd learn about Tulip? and was Simon abandoned by the cat before Tulip came on the train. It's just interesting how all of the book's stories tie together and the actions of one passenger affect the actions of other passengers. I know they had contact with Lake and Jesse but Lake and Jesse we're working towards a different goal on the train and not completely worried about the conductor, since Lake went to go forge their own path after Tulip had helped them and Jesse was able to get them off the train. Sorry for the long comment it's just interesting things to think about relating to one one, Amelia, and the current main characters of book 3 and how it could play into the book, tho it might not

I think that the Apex existed while Tulip was on the train since we saw them on the computer in bo.ok one. They probably acted the same way, it's just that now they believe that One-One to.ok over the train and such. Plus, by the time that we get to Lake and Jesse's interaction with the Apex, they seem to have been doing this stuff for a while and already have a big group of kids to lead XP

Ever since the trailer was revealed, I had a hunch that Hazel was a denizen, or a “null” as the Apex refers to them. The episode in which she was introduced only made me more suspicious, because of the subtle hints that were made. Aside from her number not glowing, she can’t has no memory of her parents/guardians other than Tuba, she doesn’t know who One-One is (new arrivals are introduced and told why they’re on the train by a pre-recorded message), and she’s never seen other kids. I think her turning into a monster just confirmed it. I have a feeling that she was created by the train specifically for the Apex, or more specifically Grace and Simon, to help shape their characters, and show them that “nulls” aren’t what they think they are.

I like to think Hazel is still part human. And since she has made the train her home she is no longer a literal passenger, that's why her number doesn't glow. She seems to have passed much on the train that she no longer remembers her original home, and the train has somewhat adopter her. The turtle thing could be explained with and failed assimilation or an experiment. IDK Maybe she was sick and the train was an attempt to cure her. When I first saw Hazel change into a turtle/tortoise, my first theory is that Hazel used to be human, but for whatever reason, the train or her time on the train, made her sort of glitch? Her number may have deactivated entirely so that may have been why the tracker couldn't detect her. Then Amelia came into the picture and it reminded me of her thing with turtles. Like what if she was older and after finding a car that makes you younger, was turned young by it. But it was around the time Amelia took control of the train from One-One, and Hazel might be older that originally perceived.

My theory: Hazel did come to the train like Jesse and the others. Even though Hazel's number is low she could've been there since she was a baby. That could be the reason she doesn't know her parents. I think that cause the numbers are the only thing keeping you on the train, if a number doesn't glow like Hazel's they transform into a Null or something else. I think that happens cause the train doesn't recognize Hazel as a passenger and the only ones that don't or aren't supposed to have numbers on the train are Nulls. That would explain why she transformed. If that was the case that would make the story much darker. I just made a summary of my theory cause KZbins character limit would not hold my whole theory. It would mean Grace could just say she was a really tricky null and have to give her personhood, leading into her giving nulls personhood. He number is from her human parent and it doesn’t work because she’s have denizen, the passenger tracker didn’t mark her as a passenger because she’s only half and technically is a denizen, just part human.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people suspected she was a null the moment people saw her. Passengers on the train always have issues. It didn't look like she had any issues at all. And there's no rule that says nulls can't be human shaped.

I am wondering if Hazel might be Amelia's daughter in a more literal sense. Amelia has been trying to recreate her life for years, maybe even decades. We have seen two examples of her failure, but there is plenty of room for others. One possibility would be that she thought she got close once, recreating a seemingly correct Alrick who's turtleness only came out later, after having conceived a child in her new paradise. Another possibility is that she predates Amelia, and whatever Amelia did to one-one to screw up his memory was also done to Hazel, leaving her lost and confused on the train. Given how much talk there is of 'true conductor', it would not surprise me if _she_ was actually the conductor, and one-one was actually some other role like engineer or, as was kinda hinted at in Book one, one-one is the steward.

My feelings and belief towards hazel being a denazin of the train have slightly changed as of re watching the whole series again i noticed hazel in episode four said she used to take dance classes and she and that she said knew that dancing together was a thing couples do which kinda surprised me meaning she must've have been off the train before in order to take dance classes so im more assuming now something happend to her rather than her being a result of train also the fact when Grace asks about Hazel Mom and Dad Hazel is confused when it comes to her mom but when it comes to her Dad she refers to him as he was in an upset manner meaning she did have a dad and in my opinion the she was is a referring to a past tense as if before she was on the train

I honestly thought that since it's hinted at that Hazel doesn't remember much about her life before the train, maybe she hit her head and has memory loss and that's why her number doesn't work because she doesn't remember why she's there, or how she got there and the reason she turned into a null is that not even the train recognizes her and making up for her humanoid appearance by changing it.

I think that the obvious answer to why she has book memories is that her tape was damaged or destroyed. It may have been caused when MT was trying to find her way off the train.
